Ingredients
For the mac and cheese:
– 2 cups elbow macaroni
– 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
– 1 cup milk
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon mustard powder
– Salt and pepper to taste
For the breadcrumb topping:
– 1 cup breadcrumbs
– 2 tablespoons melted butter
– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the macaroni
Boil the macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the cheese sauce
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and mustard powder until well combined. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 3: Combine the macaroni and cheese sauce
Transfer the cooked macaroni to a mixing bowl and pour the cheese sauce over it. Stir well to coat the macaroni evenly.
Step 4: Prepare the breadcrumb topping
In a separate bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, melted butter, and grated Parmesan cheese.
Step 5: Air fry the mac and cheese
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish that fits inside the air fryer basket. Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into the greased dish and sprinkle the breadcrumb topping evenly over it.
Place the dish in the air fryer basket and cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Step 6: Serve and enjoy!
Remove the dish from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve the baked mac and cheese hot as a main dish or a side. Enjoy the crispy exterior and gooey, cheesy interior!
