Disney+ Now Streaming in HDR10+ Format, But Not Everything.
The Disney+ streaming service has added support for the HDR10+ format, bringing its streaming capabilities more in line with those of rival platforms like Netflix and Apple TV. However, this move also raises questions about why not all content is available in this new format.
According to Samsung, "over 1,000" titles from Hulu are now available in HDR10+, which was acquired by Disney in June. The electronics company says that its Samsung Crystal UHD TVs and above from 2018 onward, including OLED TVs, support HDR10+. The Disney+ app on Apple's tvOS also lists HDR10+, according to an article on FlatpanelsHD.
Disney+ initially only supported the HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats. But now with this update, users can expect a more advanced streaming experience.
Hulu started offering some content in HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision back in 2021. Now that Disney owns Hulu and has created a unified app with both Disney+ and Hulu content, it's also able to offer HDR10+ for its titles.
This update is somewhat limited, as only certain content from Hulu is available in HDR10+. However, additional Disney+ content will support HDR10+ "in the future," according to Samsung.
