Premier League to only have one Boxing Day game 'because of Uefa competitions'

The Premier League is expected to announce its Boxing Day fixture schedule on Friday, and for the first time in years, only one game will be played. The league has blamed "complexities" around Uefa competitions for the reduced number of matches.

Boxing Day fixtures have been a long-standing tradition in English football, but this year's schedule is significantly different from previous ones. Manchester United is set to play Newcastle United on Boxing Day at 8 pm GMT.

The league says it acknowledges the circumstances that led to fewer games being played and promises more Premier League matches on Boxing Day next season. The fixtures have been delayed by 16 days, with the calendar falling in a complex way due to Uefa's expanded club competitions.

It appears that the expansion of European club competitions has reduced the number of games scheduled for Boxing Day, with the only Premier League match being Manchester United v Newcastle United at Old Trafford on December 26.

omg, dont wanna see boxing day with only one game πŸ€• i mean, its supposed to be a special day for footy fans, u know? πŸ† usually we get so many matches lined up and its just the best feeling watching ur team play πŸŽ‰ but this year, 1 game is just not enough πŸ€” gotta give it to man u tho, gonna play newcastle on boxing day πŸ˜„ hope next yr they can sort out the schedule so we get back to normal πŸ‘

Ugh, what's goin' on with the Prem this year? πŸ€” I mean, I get it, Uefa's got its own thing goin' on and all, but can't we just have a decent Boxing Day fixture schedule for once? It feels like they're always changin' things up and messin' with our holiday plans.

And now, only one game? That's just not right. I was lookin' forward to watchin' some other teams battle it out on Dec 26. Manchester United vs Newcastle at Old Trafford is gonna be alright, I guess, but where's the rest of the action?

I'm hopin' they fix this mess next season and we get back to a more traditional Boxing Day schedule. It's just a part of the football tradition that feels lost when things like Uefa competitions come into play. 😐

🏟️ I'm so confused about this news... Boxing Day is like, a tradition and all, but now it's just one game? πŸ€” What happened to the usual bunch of matches? I guess the Premier League was trying to avoid messing with things too much, but 16 days delayed?! That's just annoying. πŸ™„ And what about the fans who were looking forward to a big day out with their teams? 🚫 Oh well, at least Manchester United is playing Newcastle United, I s'pose 😐.

man... it's crazy how one of the biggest traditions in English football is getting axed πŸ€”. i get that uefa's changing things up and stuff, but can't they find a way to make it work? like, i love watching prem games just as much as anyone else, but boxing day has always been special. it's like, the whole country takes a break together πŸŽ„... now it feels like we're missing out on that sense of community.

and what's with uefa being so big and in charge all of a sudden? i mean, didn't they used to let the leagues just sort things out themselves? seems like they've got everything under control πŸ’Ό. anyway, fingers crossed for next season... maybe they'll figure it out 🀞.

Ugh, can you believe it? No Boxing Day matches at all this year πŸ€”! I mean, what's up with that? It's like, one of the biggest days in football and they're just gonna cancel it altogether? I know the Premier League is trying to be all fancy with their Uefa stuff, but come on, don't mess with tradition πŸ˜’. And now Manchester United vs Newcastle is literally the only game? That's not very festive, if you ask me...

I mean come on, it's about time they simplified the schedule, you know? I'm so done with all these complexities around Uefa competitions and their calendar shenanigans. It's like, can't they just get it together? One game on Boxing Day is actually kind of cool, though - Manchester United vs Newcastle at 8 pm GMT? That's gonna be a big match! And the league's promise to have more Premier League matches next season sounds good too... fingers crossed they keep that commitment.

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Like, what's up with this? The whole point of Boxing Day is to have a bunch of football matches and stuff, but now it's just one game πŸŽ‰πŸ˜΄. I mean, I guess the Premier League doesn't want to mess with Uefa's precious competitions, but come on, can't they just find a way to make it work? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And what's with the Manchester United vs Newcastle match being at 8 pm GMT? Like, do people actually plan their social lives around this now? πŸ˜΄πŸ‘€ And don't even get me started on the calendar thingy... Uefa expanding club competitions, yeah no kidding, that's not like a secret 🀐.

Anyway, I guess it's good they're promising more matches next season, but I'm still salty about the one-off game this year. Can we just go back to normal or something? πŸ˜’πŸ‘Ž

I'm so curious about this change in Boxing Day fixtures πŸ€”. I mean, it's always been a big deal to watch football matches on that day, and now there's only one game? It seems like the Premier League is trying to make up for it next season by playing more games on Boxing Day though πŸ‘. I'm also not surprised about the delay - Uefa's expanded club competitions can be really complicated πŸ˜…. But still, I hope we get back to the usual schedule soon! Manchester United vs Newcastle United at Old Trafford will have to do this year I guess πŸŽ‰.

I wonder if they'll ever figure out how to get the football schedules straight πŸ€”... I was thinking about getting a new bike the other day and I saw this awesome brand that makes custom frames out of recycled materials πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ. It's crazy how much waste we can reduce just by making small changes in our daily lives, you know? Anyway, back to football... I mean, I love watching the Premier League, but sometimes these scheduling issues make it hard to plan around my weekly routine πŸ“…. Maybe they'll get it together next year and give us more games on Boxing Day? Fingers crossed! 🀞

πŸ€” It's crazy how things have changed in English football. I mean, Boxing Day fixtures used to be all about excitement and action, but now we're down to just one game? πŸŽ‰ It's not even a traditional match-up anymore, it's more like a novelty. And why did the league decide to go with only one Premier League game this year? 😐 Don't get me wrong, I love Manchester United, but they should be doing better than that. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ At least the league is promising more games next season, so fingers crossed it'll all work out in the end. But still, it's a bit of a letdown for fans who were looking forward to a full day of football on Boxing Day πŸ˜”

So its been ages since we had such a low-key Boxing Day in the Prem πŸ€”. I'm kinda surprised they're gonna make it up next season tho. Like, if they're still gonna play all the Uefa stuff that's causing the problem, why not just stick with what works? But yeah, only one game this year is pretty weird. Manchester United vs Newcastle should still be a good match though πŸ΄πŸ‘

I'm kinda bummed about this πŸ€”. I love watching the Premier League on Boxing Day and it's always a big event. Having only one game is gonna feel really low-key. I get that Uefa competitions can be tricky to navigate, but it feels like they're impacting our league too much. Manchester United v Newcastle United at Old Trafford sounds alright, I guess πŸŽ‰... still not the same as having multiple matches to enjoy on a special day off. Maybe next season things will go back to normal and we'll have more games to look forward to πŸ‘

omg what a bummer!!! πŸ€• boxing day is always so lit, you know? no premier league match this year means less football action and that's like, super disappointing πŸ˜” i mean i get it, uefa competitions can be complicated but still, we need more football in our lives πŸ’ͺ especially on christmas day... old Trafford gonna be packed though! πŸŽ‰ hopefully next year they'll give us back the traditional lineup of matches 🀞 fingers crossed πŸ‘

I'm kinda bummed about this Boxing Day thing... πŸ€” I mean, it's a big deal in England, and most years they've got like 6-8 games lined up. But now, with all the changes to Uefa competitions, it's just going to be one match? 😐 Manchester United vs Newcastle, that's about it. The league says they're making promises to make next year better, but for now, it feels a bit underwhelming. πŸŽ‰ I guess I'll have to wait and see what they do, but it's gonna be weird not having all those games on the big day... 😊

Ugh, boxing day and only one game πŸ€”... like, what's next? The Champions League final being played in April? πŸ˜‚ Anyway, I get that Uefa's got a lot going on with the expanded club comps, but it's still weird to have so few fixtures. I mean, it's not like we can't fit more games into the schedule πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... oh wait, we can't because of all the other stuff πŸ™ƒ. Guess Manchester United fans will just have to be content with a Boxing Day match and pretend they're excited about it 😜. On the bright side, at least there's a decent match planned out for the rest of us πŸ‘.
