Premier League to only have one Boxing Day game 'because of Uefa competitions'

The Premier League is expected to announce its Boxing Day fixture schedule on Friday, and for the first time in years, only one game will be played. The league has blamed "complexities" around Uefa competitions for the reduced number of matches.

Boxing Day fixtures have been a long-standing tradition in English football, but this year's schedule is significantly different from previous ones. Manchester United is set to play Newcastle United on Boxing Day at 8 pm GMT.

The league says it acknowledges the circumstances that led to fewer games being played and promises more Premier League matches on Boxing Day next season. The fixtures have been delayed by 16 days, with the calendar falling in a complex way due to Uefa's expanded club competitions.

It appears that the expansion of European club competitions has reduced the number of games scheduled for Boxing Day, with the only Premier League match being Manchester United v Newcastle United at Old Trafford on December 26.
 
omg, dont wanna see boxing day with only one game 🤕 i mean, its supposed to be a special day for footy fans, u know? 🏆 usually we get so many matches lined up and its just the best feeling watching ur team play 🎉 but this year, 1 game is just not enough 🤔 gotta give it to man u tho, gonna play newcastle on boxing day 😄 hope next yr they can sort out the schedule so we get back to normal 👍

man... it's crazy how one of the biggest traditions in English football is getting axed 🤔. i get that uefa's changing things up and stuff, but can't they find a way to make it work? like, i love watching prem games just as much as anyone else, but boxing day has always been special. it's like, the whole country takes a break together 🎄... now it feels like we're missing out on that sense of community.

and what's with uefa being so big and in charge all of a sudden? i mean, didn't they used to let the leagues just sort things out themselves? seems like they've got everything under control 💼. anyway, fingers crossed for next season... maybe they'll figure it out 🤞.

I wonder if they'll ever figure out how to get the football schedules straight 🤔... I was thinking about getting a new bike the other day and I saw this awesome brand that makes custom frames out of recycled materials 🚴‍♂️. It's crazy how much waste we can reduce just by making small changes in our daily lives, you know? Anyway, back to football... I mean, I love watching the Premier League, but sometimes these scheduling issues make it hard to plan around my weekly routine 📅. So its been ages since we had such a low-key Boxing Day in the Prem 🤔. I'm kinda surprised they're gonna make it up next season tho. Like, if they're still gonna play all the Uefa stuff that's causing the problem, why not just stick with what works? But yeah, only one game this year is pretty weird. Manchester United vs Newcastle should still be a good match though 🏴👍
 
I'm kinda bummed about this 🤔. I love watching the Premier League on Boxing Day and it's always a big event. Having only one game is gonna feel really low-key. I get that Uefa competitions can be tricky to navigate, but it feels like they're impacting our league too much. Manchester United v Newcastle United at Old Trafford sounds alright, I guess 🎉... still not the same as having multiple matches to enjoy on a special day off. Maybe next season things will go back to normal and we'll have more games to look forward to 👍
