“Abolish ICE” Is More Popular Than Ever. How Will Democrats Drop the Ball This Time?

As the US government continues to grapple with the consequences of its harsh stance on immigration, a growing number of Americans are calling for one thing: an end to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The demand has never been more popular, with a recent poll showing that 46% of respondents support abolishing ICE, while only 43% oppose it. This shift in public opinion is being driven by the increasingly brutal tactics employed by ICE agents, including the killing of Renee Good, a US citizen, and the detention of thousands of migrants at border facilities.

Despite this growing momentum, establishment Democrats are largely hesitant to take a firm stance on abolishing ICE. Instead, they are opting for incremental reforms that many see as too little, too late. Top Democrats in Washington have been working to secure funding for ICE with conditions attached, hoping to appease the agency's critics while maintaining its existence.

But this approach is not only ineffective but also damaging. By hedging their bets and trying to find common ground with a deeply unpopular position, Democrats are failing to take a moral stand on an issue that is increasingly becoming a defining characteristic of American politics.

The problem with Kamala Harris's campaign strategy, for example, was that it failed to differentiate her from other Democrats like Hillary Clinton. By embracing incremental reforms and trying to find middle ground, she gave Trump's opponents no clear reason to vote for her.

It's time for the Democratic Party to rethink its approach on ICE. Rather than trying to find compromise with an agency that has consistently demonstrated a disregard for human rights and the rule of law, Democrats should be pushing for the complete dismantling of ICE. This would not only be a moral imperative but also a strategic one, as it would allow the party to take a strong stance on immigration reform without alienating moderates.

The real question is: will Democrats have the courage to do what's right? Or will they continue to punt and hope that the issue goes away? One thing is certain: the public is watching, and they are not going to forget the role that ICE has played in perpetuating racism and xenophobia. The Democratic Party would do well to remember this as it navigates the increasingly treacherous waters of American politics.

🤔 I think Democrats should just be straight up about what they want: an end to ICE's brutal practices. It's not a tough sell, trust me. Most Americans are already on board with abolishing the agency due to its human rights abuses and shady tactics 💥 Like, come on, Renee Good was a US citizen who got killed by ICE agents - that's some serious moral failing 🤕. And yeah, I get it, incremental reforms might seem like a middle ground but let's be real, they're just a Band-Aid solution for a festering wound 💉. We need concrete action, not empty promises 🙅‍♂️. The Democrats need to take a firm stance and show the public that they're committed to making things right 🌟.

I think its about time for them to step up their game 🙄, we cant keep having these incremental reforms like every year, its just not enough anymore. I mean come on 46% want ICE gone and only 43% are against it, that's a clear signal that something needs to change ASAP 💡. And yeah Kamala's strategy was super weak, all she did was copy Hillary's style which is basically "be another safe choice" 🤷‍♀️. But honestly the party should just be like "we got this we're gonna take a stand and it might not be popular but its what needs to be done". Its time to stop trying to find middle ground with an agency that has shown no regard for human life or decency 🚫, abolish ICE once and for all!

🤔 I'm really surprised by how little traction establishment Democrats have on this issue, considering public opinion is screaming for change 🗣️. Abolishing ICE isn't a radical idea, and if they're too scared to take a stand, it's only going to embolden the party's hardliners who want to continue the status quo 😒. It's like they're trying to please everyone except the public, which is being completely ignored on this issue 🤷‍♂️. The problem is, incremental reforms aren't cutting it anymore; we need a bold move to address the systemic issues with ICE 💪.

I'm thinking...ICE is like a big ol' symptom of a bigger problem – inequality, systemic injustice & all that 🤔. If we're gonna abolish ICE, we gotta think about why it was created in the first place & how to fix the root causes of immigration issues. It's not just about throwing more money at the problem or passing laws. We need to have real conversations about our values as a society. What does it mean to be American? How do we welcome strangers while also protecting ourselves? 🌎

ICE needs to go 🔥. This country's history with immigration is complicated, but one thing's for sure: we can't keep hurting people just to maintain a system that's already flawed. Those Democrats who are trying to find "middle ground" need to step up and take a stand 🙅‍♂️. We've seen the devastating effects of ICE's tactics on our own citizens (Renee Good, anyone? 😢) and on migrant families. It's time for us to put human rights above politics 🌎. I mean, if we're gonna talk about incremental reforms, let's at least have a clear plan to dismantle this toxic agency first 🔄. Can't we just have a moral conversation about immigration reform without compromising our values? 🤔

I'm torn on this one 🤔... I mean, I totally get why people want to abolish ICE - all those brutal tactics and human rights abuses are unacceptable 💯... but at the same time, I don't know if just shutting it down is the solution either 🤷‍♂️. I mean, what's gonna happen to all these people who are already being detained or deported? It's not like they're going to magically disappear ✨. And let's be real, ICE has been a tool for the system to, you know, keep an eye on certain communities and enforce the law 🕵️‍♂️... but at what cost? Like, is it really worth it? 😐

And don't even get me started on Kamala Harris's campaign strategy - I mean, I get that she was trying to appeal to moderates and all that, but couldn't she have found a way to make her stance on ICE more... nuanced? 🤔 It's like, you can't just say "oh, I'm gonna abolish ICE" and expect everyone to be like "yaaas, let's do this!" 😂. You gotta have some kind of plan in place, you know? 📝

But still, I think Democrats need to take a stand on this... like, it's not right that they're so hesitant to go after ICE 🚫. It's like, the public is watching and we can tell when people are being genuine or not 💭. So yeah, I'm all for abolishing ICE, but let's make sure there's a plan in place first 📊... or maybe just wing it and see what happens? 🎯

ICE gotta go 🚫👎... people's voice is loudin out 46% of Americans want abolition 🤯... what's with establishment Dems bein cautious tho? 🤔 they're tryna appease ICE critics but it's not workin 💔... incremental reforms ain't the answer, Dems need to take a stand on human rights & rule of law 💪... if they don't, people will remember, especially marginalized communities 😢... Kamala Harris shoulda been more clear on her stance 🤷‍♀️... time for Dem Party to rethink strategy 🔄
