AFC playoffs: Patriots top Texans, advance to title game

Patriots Secure Spot in AFC Championship Game Behind Dramatic Comeback

The New England Patriots edged out the Houston Texans 28-16 on Sunday, advancing to the AFC championship game for the first time in seven years. The win sets up a thrilling matchup with the Denver Broncos next week, with the winner claiming their spot in Super Bowl.

Drake Maye's strong outing, despite four turnovers and fumbling twice, was enough to propel the Patriots over a Texans team that has now lost three straight divisional round games under coach DeMeco Ryans. The franchise is now 0-7 all-time in this stage of the playoffs.

Maye threw for 179 yards on 16 of 27 completions but also had an interception and struggled with fumbles, setting up Houston's first touchdown. However, Patriots cornerback Carlton Davis III and safety Craig Woodson added to the Texans' misery with two interceptions each.

The game was marked by a series of crucial plays that swung momentum in favor of New England. A strip-sack by Danielle Hunter gave the Texans possession, but Will Campbell fell on the ball, allowing the Patriots to punt. Later, Stroud's deep pass along the sideline was intercepted by Davis III, setting up a Patriots touchdown.

The game's turning point came when Marcus Jones returned an interception for a score, capping off a play that saw C.J. Stroud forced into a desperation heave by Will Anderson. The Texans' struggles continued as they fumbled twice more, allowing the Patriots to extend their lead and secure the win.

With the victory, the Patriots will make their 16th conference championship game appearance, with their last one coming in the 2018 season under Bill Belichick. They have now won nine divisional round games in a row, putting them on a path to another Super Bowl title.

man this patriots team is like that one aunt who just never gives up lol they were down by all sorts of things but still managed to pull it off and now they're moving on to the super bowl 🏈πŸ”₯ i mean, can you imagine being the broncos coach and having to prepare for a team that's basically a bunch of comeback kids? πŸ˜‚ but seriously though, patriots fanbase is like the most dedicated in the league - all those years of waiting and they're still cheering on their team with every fiber of their being πŸ’ͺ

🀩 Oh man I'm so hyped for this Patriots team! They're on fire right now πŸš€! I was on the edge of my seat when Marcus Jones returned that interception for a score πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ, it was like a switch flipped and the momentum went from Texans to Patriots instantly πŸ”„. The defense was all over Stroud and C.J. just couldn't find an open receiver 🀯! I love how Will Anderson just took out Stroud with that desperation heave πŸ˜‚, talk about making a statement!

I'm also loving the underdog story here 🐾, the Texans have been struggling so much lately and it's like they're just running into bricks 🚧. You gotta give credit to New England though, their team effort was on point πŸ‘. Carlton Davis III and Craig Woodson were instrumental in shutting down Stroud and his receivers πŸ’ͺ! Now let's see what the Broncos got and can they take out our Patriots πŸ€”

man i was thinking patriots were gonna get destroyed by the texans, but maye just pulled off this insane comeback 🀯😲 that strip-sack by hunter was like the game changer, and stroud's desperation heave just fell right into davis iii's hands πŸ™ŒπŸΌ patriots finally back in the championship game after 7 years πŸŽ‰πŸ‘Š will be super interesting to see how they match up against denver next week

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s pretty crazy how far that Patriots team has come 🀯. Seven years without making the AFC championship game and now they’re back in the mix πŸ’₯. And to be honest, I was rooting for the Texans to make a deep run too πŸ‘€. The drama of that comeback was wild! Maye had some major ups and downs but his squad rallied around him 🀝. Now we get to see if the Patriots can take down the Broncos and bring home that Super Bowl ring πŸ’ͺ🏽. Either way, it's been a thrilling postseason so far πŸ”₯.

🏈 Omg, what a game! I'm so stoked that the Pats made it back to the AFC Championship game after such a long drought πŸ™Œ. It's like they were in a real-life Rocky movie, fighting for their championship spot πŸ’ͺ. And can we talk about Drake Maye's performance? Four turnovers and fumbling twice, but he still managed to lead his team to victory 🀯. I'm low-key impressed. And that last play where Marcus Jones scored an interception return was pure magic ✨. It feels like the whole game was just one big swing in New England's favor. Fingers crossed they can bring home that Super Bowl title again πŸ†!

OMG 🀯, can't believe the Pats made it back to the AFC Championship game after being out for so long πŸ™Œ! The comeback was insane 😲, they really needed that win after losing 4 turnovers and fumbling twice πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ... but credit to Drake Maye for still putting up decent numbers despite all that πŸ’―.

I'm loving how the Pats defense stepped up too πŸ’ͺ, Carlton Davis III and Craig Woodson were on point πŸ”₯! That game was so dramatic πŸ“Ί, I mean who needs a plot when you have strip sacks and interception returns πŸ˜‚?... can't wait to see them take on the Broncos next week πŸ‘Š

omg what a comeback by the patriots 🀯πŸ’₯ that was such an intense game i love how they just didn't give up despite all those turnovers from drake maye πŸ˜‚ anyway the defense was straight fire with carlton davis iii and craig woodson picking off c.j. stroud two times each lol it really came down to a few crucial plays like that strip-sack by danille hunter 🀯 what a game changer!

man 😊 this is an amazing comeback story! Drake Maye's performance might not be perfect, but he showed so much heart and determination. And can you believe the Patriots are heading back to the AFC championship game for the first time in 7 years?! πŸ™Œ it's going to be a thrilling matchup with the Broncos next week... 🀩 I'm also loving how they're on a roll now, 9 divisional round wins in a row! πŸ’ͺ Will Anderson is like a superhero out there, always making those big plays 😎 and Marcus Jones just lit it up with that game-winning interception πŸš€πŸ”₯

omg u guys cant even imagine how hyped i am about this patriots win 🀩!!! de'andre hopkins just played 1 game with the broncos and he was already giving me LIFE πŸ’₯!! maye threw for like, 179 yards or something lol but it didnt matter cuz davis iii saved the day! πŸ™Œ those 2 interceptions were EVERYTHING πŸ”₯ i'm screaming now because i know patriots are gonna crush it next week πŸ†πŸ‘Š

🏈πŸ”₯ I'm loving the comeback vibes from those Patriots! πŸ’ͺ The way Drake Maye bounced back after a rough start is insane 🀯! And that Marcus Jones return for a touchdown? πŸ”΄πŸ”„ That's what I call clutch! 😎 The Texans just couldn't catch a break, but hey, it's all part of the playoffs, right? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I'm kinda stoked for the Patriots! I mean, they're back in the championship game and it's gonna be a tough match against the Broncos, but I think they've got this. They've been playing solid football and their defense is looking super strong with Davis III and Woodson making those clutch interceptions. On the other hand, the Texans are having a rough season and this loss is just another brick in their wall. It's gonna be interesting to see how they bounce back from this one... πŸ€”πŸˆ
