After teen death lawsuits, Character.AI will restrict chats for under-18 users

I'M SO GLAD CHARACTER AI IS TAKING THIS HUGE STEP TO PROTECT TEENS FROM CHATBOT STRRESS!!! THEY'RE RIGHT, CHATBOTS ARE NOT THE WAY FOR ENTERTAINMENT ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO MINORS! 🤖💻 I MEAN, CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING A PARENT AND KNOWING YOUR KID IS TALKING TO AN AI ABOUT DEATH AND SUICIDE? 😱 THAT'S SOME SERIOUS STUFF!

BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I FEEL FOR THOSE FAMILIES WHO LOST THEIR LOVED ONES TO SUICIDE... IT'S JUST SO HEARTBREAKING! 🤕 CHARACTER AI NEEDS TO DO MORE THAN JUST RESTRICT ACCESS TO CHAT FEATURES - THEY NEED TO MAKE SURE THEIR TECH IS SAFE AND REGULATED FROM THE GROUND UP!

ANYWAY, I THINK THIS MOVE IS A GOOD START, BUT WE SHOULD BE WATCHING HOW IT PLAYS OUT AND MAKING SURE THAT OTHER COMPANIES FOLLOW SUIT! 💪

I'm not convinced about this change 🤔. I mean, what evidence does Character AI have that chatbots are contributing to teen deaths by suicide? They're not sharing their data or research on this topic... seems fishy to me 👀. Also, why do they need to restrict access to open-ended conversations? Can't they just provide more resources and support for teens who might be struggling with mental health issues? This feels like a knee-jerk reaction rather than a thoughtful solution 🚫. Need some concrete sources on this before I buy into it 💡.

I'm so worried about this 🤕. It's like, I get it, companies have a responsibility to protect their users, especially kids. But what's the point of limiting access if you're not actually teaching them how to use these platforms safely? Like, shouldn't they be learning how to navigate online conversations and identify potential risks? By blocking open-ended chats, Character AI is basically depriving teens of a valuable educational resource 🤔.

I also think it's kinda shady that the company is doing this after lawsuits were filed against them. It feels like they're trying to save their own skin rather than genuinely addressing the issue 🤑. And what about all the kids who might be using these platforms without adult supervision? How are they supposed to know any better? 🤷‍♀️

The whole thing just feels like a band-aid solution to a much bigger problem. We need more transparency and accountability from tech companies when it comes to their safety features, especially when it comes to minors 👀.

😱 oh man this is so crazy i mean i get it character ai needs to protect its young users but like restricting access is just gonna push teens into dark corners of the web where they can find all sorts of weird stuff anyway i wish character ai would just develop some better safety features instead of locking down their entire platform 🤖💻
