AT&T Gives the Smart Home a Second Try With Help From Google and Abode

AT&T is revving up its smart home game with a new platform called Connected Life, now available nationwide. The platform offers a streamlined experience for setting up and managing smart home security systems, thanks to partnerships with Google and Abode.

To get started, AT&T customers can purchase one of two kits - the Starter Kit ($11 per month for 36 months) or the Advanced Kit ($19 per month for 36 months). Each kit includes Google Nest smart home products and security sensors. The Advanced Kit offers more sensors, a security keypad, and a Nest Cam security camera.

However, there's a catch - you need to be an AT&T customer to use the Connected Life platform. And, while it does offer some unique features like cellular backup and professional monitoring services, users can still access their devices through the Connected Life app after canceling their subscription.

The platform leverages Google Home's API to integrate its smart home devices into the Connected Life app, allowing for seamless management of devices. There are two subscription tiers: Essential ($11 per month) or Professional ($22 per month). The Professional plan includes a US-based monitoring service that can dispatch police and medical services during emergencies.

T-Mobile and Verizon don't have all-in-one home security packages like AT&T's Connected Life platform, but there is competition in the market from other companies such as SimpliSafe and ADT.

According to Brian Brower, vice president of new product innovation at AT&T, "Our value prop at AT&T is to bring these things together and make it seamless to our customers." The goal is to simplify smart home setup and make the experience easy for users, without being a hardware player themselves.

I'm loving that AT&T's getting into the smart home game, but I gotta say, being locked into their network can be a bit of a bummer if you're already on another carrier πŸ€”. And those prices for the Starter Kit? $11 a month is pretty steep for some people. Still, it's great to see AT&T partnering with Google and Abode to make smart home security more accessible and user-friendly πŸ’‘. I just wish there was more flexibility for customers who want to use their devices without being tied to an AT&T plan πŸ“΅. On the other hand, having professional monitoring services like ADT's can be a game-changer in an emergency situation ⚠️. Overall, it's good competition out there and AT&T seems to be playing it smart πŸ’»

OMG, I'm so excited about this new Connected Life platform from AT&T! 🀩 I mean, who doesn't want to have their smart home security system all in one place? It's like they're speaking my language with the Starter Kit for $11 per month - that's a steal if you ask me! πŸ’Έ And the fact that it integrates with Google Home's API is a total game-changer. I've been struggling to get my Nest devices to work together, and this just makes life so much easier.

But what really caught my attention was the Professional plan with cellular backup and monitoring services... like, if you're ever in an emergency situation, someone can actually dispatch help? 🚨 That's the kind of peace of mind I want! My grandma lives alone, and it would be a huge relief to know that she's protected. I'm definitely looking into this more - has anyone else tried out Connected Life yet? πŸ€”

I'm not sure I love this whole connected home thing... πŸ€” Like, don't get me wrong, it sounds convenient and all, but have you thought about the data collection and control that comes with having one giant network controlling all your smart devices? It's like, we're already giving our personal info to these companies for ads and whatnot, do we really want to give them even more access to our homes? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Plus, if I'm being honest, I think it's a bit of a money pit - $11 per month for 36 months just seems like a lot, especially when you can get similar devices through other means. And let's not forget about the environmental impact of all those devices and their packaging... 🌎 It's just something to consider before jumping on the connected home bandwagon, you know?

omg i'm so down for this connected life thing πŸ€©πŸ’» i think it's super cool that at&t is making it easy for ppl to manage their smart home security systems with just one app πŸ‘ but like, isn't the catch that u gotta be an at&t customer? that does kinda limit it for non-at&t users πŸ€” anyway, the fact that they're using google's api to make it seamless sounds awesome πŸ’Έ and i love that there are options for different subscription tiers so ppl can choose what works best for them πŸ’―

I just got back from the most random vacation to Japan πŸŒΈπŸ—ΊοΈ and I was trying to order food at this tiny ramen shop and they didn't speak a word of English πŸ˜‚... but you know what? The noodles were SO good! Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, smart home security. So AT&T is trying to get in on this game with their Connected Life platform and it's kinda interesting. But what really got me thinking is how everyone is always talking about the "smart" part... like do we even need our homes to be smarter than us? πŸ€” I mean, can't we just, like, remember where we put our keys already πŸ˜‚?

I'm so stoked about this new Connected Life platform from AT&T! πŸŽ‰ I love how they're making smart home security more accessible to everyone, especially with those affordable starter kits πŸ’Έ. And, let's be real, having Google Nest devices integrated into the app is a total game-changer πŸ”©. But, what really gets me is how easy it is to use after canceling your subscription πŸ“Š. I mean, who needs to be tied down to one carrier when you can have control over your smart home setup? It's all about flexibility and freedom, right? 😎 The professional monitoring service sounds pretty sweet too, especially during emergencies πŸš‘. I just wish more carriers would jump on the bandwagon with this kind of innovative thinking πŸ’‘.

I'm thinking that this Connected Life thing from AT&T is gonna be a big hit with all my friends who just wanna make their homes smart πŸ€–πŸ’‘. I mean, it's not like they need to sign up for a new plan or anything - the device itself comes with a price tag, but at least you're getting cellular backup and monitoring services out of the deal πŸ“ˆ. And having Google Home integration is a nice touch 🀝. I'm curious though, do people actually have to cancel their sub to use their devices again after the initial 36 months? That seems kinda weird... πŸ€‘

I'm loving this new Connected Life platform from AT&T 🀩! They're really setting the bar high with their partnerships with Google and Abode. I mean, who wouldn't want a seamless experience for managing smart home security systems? The fact that you can get it all through one app is a game-changer. And the cellular backup feature? Genius! It's like they're anticipating all our tech needs before we even know what we need πŸ“±πŸ’».

Now, I do wish there was some flexibility in terms of hardware options - I mean, not everyone wants to be locked into AT&T for their home security needs. But hey, it's a solid start, and if they keep innovating, this could be the future of smart home management πŸš€. Competition from other companies like SimpliSafe and ADT is already heating up the market, so we'll see how this all plays out!

ugh, just great, another way for corporations to lock us in πŸš«πŸ’Έ. I mean, who needs freedom from their cell phone company's grasp? AT&T's got its claws deep into our wallets now, and we're stuck with them if we wanna use this "Connected Life" nonsense... it's like they're trying to sell us a security system and a plan at the same time πŸ€‘. I guess we can't say T-Mobile and Verizon did it first? SimpliSafe and ADT might be our only hope, but even those guys are just profiting off our paranoia 😬. anyway, good luck getting out of this one if you cancel your subscription, huh? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I think I need to be on both sides of this... like, I totally get why AT&T's Connected Life platform is a good idea - it makes sense to bundle everything together and make it super user-friendly πŸ€”. And the cellular backup feature sounds pretty cool! But at the same time, I'm a bit miffed that you need an AT&T subscription to even use it... what if you're not tied down to their network? πŸ˜’. And while I like that the devices are integrated with Google Home's API, I worry about the cost - $22 a month is kinda steep πŸ€‘. But then again, the professional monitoring service could be a game-changer in an emergency situation ⚠️...
