Detroit's Pizza Scene is About to Get a Boost as Amelia Street Pizza Co. Opens Brick-and-Mortar in Hazel Park
Acclaimed chef James Rigato has partnered with Matt Arb, the mastermind behind the popular pizza pop-up Amelia Street Pizza Co., to bring his signature pies to the good people of Hazel Park. The duo aims for a spring opening and promises that the new location will serve up some of the best pizzas in town.
Arb, who initially launched his venture out of his home kitchen after seven years as a refinancing banker at Rocket Mortgage, has already gained a following on social media. His pizzas caught the attention of Rigato, who became an investor and mentor to Arb's project. The low-frills shop will feature a simple menu with cheese, pepperoni, and a rotating special, accompanied by cheese bread, cookies, and soft drinks.
"We've wanted to open a pizza spot for a long time," Rigato said, "but this is not a Mabel Gray project. This is Matt's business and Matt's pizza. My mentorship is on the business and behind-the-scenes side." Arb echoed Rigato's sentiments, saying that having his culinary hero in his corner has made him feel even more confident about the project.
The new shop will be located at 951 E. Nine Mile Rd., just a stone's throw away from Mabel Gray, another high-end restaurant owned by Rigato. With its proximity to established dining spots and a party store next door, the location is prime for attracting customers looking for a unique pizza experience.
Amelia Street Pizza Co.'s spring opening promises to bring some much-needed excitement to Hazel Park's food scene. As for Arb, he's grateful for Rigato's guidance and support, saying that it will help him "make something from the ground up" without compromising on his vision. With its talented team and commitment to serving up top-notch pies, this pop-up is poised to become a neighborhood favorite.
