Billie Eilish Condemns Civil Rights Violations, ICE-Inflicted Violence Under Trump Administration

Billie Eilish takes aim at Trump Administration's human rights record in emotional speech.

The pop star and climate activist used her acceptance of the MLK Jr. Beloved Community Award for Environmental Justice to scold those perpetuating inequality, specifically referencing President Donald Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The musician, who is 24, emphasized that despite her own efforts to promote sustainability, environmental justice, and social equality, it seems like "it feels less achievable than ever" due to the current state of the US.

Eilish cited instances of civil rights violations, including peaceful protesters being assaulted and murdered, as well as ICE agents' actions. She drew attention to 32 people who died in ICE custody over the past year, noting that it is one of the agency's deadliest years on record. Eilish also referenced the recent killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent.

The musician expressed her concern that protecting the planet and communities are not priorities for Trump's administration, stating, "It's very clear that protecting our planet and our communities is not a priority for this administration." She noted that young people, like herself, are often expected to take action against problems they never should have encountered, highlighting examples of Amariyanna Copeny, Greta Thunberg, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students.

Eilish emphasized her responsibility as a platform holder to use her voice for change, expressing gratitude for the community that has supported her. She also thanked her parents for raising her to make a positive impact on society.

Man 🀯... I'm getting old vibes from this article πŸ“°... Billie Eilish is speaking truth to power, fam πŸ’ͺ... it's heartbreaking to see what's happening with ICE and the treatment of peaceful protesters πŸš«πŸ’”... like, 32 people die in their custody last year? That's wild 😱... and that one where they killed Renee Nicole Good... it's like, no more πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ... I remember when Martin Luther King Jr. was alive, we were fighting for equality and justice too πŸ•ŠοΈ... but now it feels like we're taking two steps forward and one step back πŸš«πŸ’”... I'm all about climate action and sustainability, but it's tough to see it getting ignored by the powers that be πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ... still, Billie Eilish is using her platform for good, and that's what matters πŸ’–... gotta keep speaking out, even if it feels like we're not making progress πŸ™...

just saw this thread about billie eilish's speech 🀯 and gotta say I'm not surprised tbh... it feels like we're living in a parallel universe where people are still debating the most basic human rights 😩 anyone who thinks trump's admin is doing a good job on human rights needs to take a step back and reevaluate what they want from life πŸ™„ but kudos to billie for using her platform to speak out against injustice πŸ’–

🀬 I'm seriously livid about what's going down with this administration... Billie Eilish is totally right to speak out against the blatant disregard for human rights, especially when it comes to immigration and environmental issues 🌎. It's crazy that these politicians can't see the harm they're causing just by being in power - 32 people have died in ICE custody over the past year alone... that's just heartbreaking πŸ’”.

I mean, what's the point of even trying if the system is rigged against you? Eilish is right to say that young people like herself are being expected to take action when it feels like the adults aren't even trying πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. And can we talk about how ICE agents seem to think they're above the law just by wearing a badge? It's so messed up 😑.

I think Billie's speech was super powerful and needed to be said - she's not afraid to call out the issues and take responsibility for using her platform to make a difference πŸ’–. And to see her thanking her parents for teaching her to care about social justice... that just warms my heart ❀️. We need more people like Billie speaking truth to power and fighting for what's right πŸ’ͺ.

idk why ppl gotta diss trump all da time... he's not perfect but we r more divided now dan ever i think billie's speech was cool but it felt kinda preachy i mean we got our own issues 2 deal wit environmental justice & social equality 4 real tho, we cant just sit back & do nothing πŸ€·β€β™€οΈICE is still a big problem but lets not villainize trump completely... billie's passion is fire tho & she's using her platform 2 make a diff 🌟

OMG you guys Billie Eilish just gave the most emotional speech about Trump Admin's human rights record πŸ€―πŸ’” I'm literally shook it feels like she's speaking straight from our hearts when she talks about the inequality and injustices in this country, especially with ICE 🚫😱 those 32 people who died in custody last year is just heartbreaking Can we talk about how messed up it is that young people like her are expected to be the ones fighting for change? And what's even crazier is that some of these kids were already dealing with trauma before they got involved in activism πŸ€―πŸ’– anyway, I'm so proud of Billie Eilish for using her platform to speak out against injustice and raise awareness about environmental justice https://www.pbs.org/newshour/2023/1...ed-community-award-for-environmental-justice/

omg u guys cant believe what billie said 🀯 i mean idk how more clear u can get - trump admin is literally killing ppl and its all good with them 😒 like 32 people in ice custody died last year and Renee was just brutally murdered by an agent! and yall talkin bout environmental justice but its not even on their radar πŸŒŽπŸ’” billie brought up some really valid points too about how young ppl are expected to deal with all this but adults r supposed to be leadin the way πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ anyway, i love that she used her platform to speak out tho πŸ’–

the US is getting more messed up by the minute... it's crazy how one person can be so toxic and hurt so many lives 🀯 Billie Eilish speaking truth to power, I love it πŸ’– but its heartbreaking what's happening with ICE and the environment 🌎 its like we're expecting everyone to just take care of everything except for those in power

omg can u believe what's happening with trump admin? it feels like they don't even care about human rights lol 32 people dying in ice custody is insane 🀯🚫 how can u justify that? billie eilish is speaking truth to power and i love her for it πŸ’– she's not just a pop star, she's a climate activist too! πŸŒŽπŸ’š we need more voices like hers making a difference

ugh i feel like billie is hitting so close to home πŸ€• my kid is in elementary school and every time they hear about kids being deported or arrested by ICE, it breaks my heart 😭 i wish trump would take climate change more seriously, it's literally the most pressing issue of our generation πŸ’š i love that billie is using her platform to speak out against human rights abuses πŸ™ but can't we all just come together and make a difference without needing someone famous to say so? πŸ˜” still super proud of billie for speaking up for what's right though! πŸ‘
