Detroit’s Motor City Brewing Works to ‘pause’ after 30+ years - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit's Motor City Brewing Works Shuts Down Temporarily After 31 Years, Leaving Beer Lovers and Community in Limbo

In a surprise move, Detroit's oldest brewery, Motor City Brewing Works, has announced that it will be taking a break until further notice. The iconic taproom, which has been serving craft beer and pizzas to the Cass Corridor community for over three decades, will remain open until Sunday, February 8, featuring a digital montage of historic brewery photos.

The brewery's decision comes after the historic thermal steam line that powered it was terminated on December 31, leaving the business without its primary source of power. While beer distribution to retailers continues via assistance from fellow breweries, Motor City Brewing Works will be exploring future possibilities for the brand and the brewery as a whole.

Founded in 1994 by craft beer aficionado John Linardos, Motor City Brewing Works was known for its unique brews, such as Ghettoblaster Ale and Notorious DRIPA. The brewery also played a significant role in hosting art exhibitions and music events, making it a beloved institution in the Detroit community.

The decision to close temporarily has left fans and regular customers wondering about the future of Motor City Brewing Works. In a statement on social media, the brewery expressed its gratitude for the support of its patrons and invited them to "raise a glass, share a story, and help us celebrate MCBW's small contribution to the Cass Corridor."

While the exact reasons behind the temporary closure remain unclear, one thing is certain: Motor City Brewing Works will be deeply missed by Detroit's craft beer enthusiasts.

🤕 I mean, what's up with this? One minute it's open, next minute it's closed... 31 years, and now it's just gonna sit idle? The Cass Corridor community is already losing its soul 😔. And what about all the events they hosted? Art exhibitions, music events... that's part of the charm! I'm not buying the whole "exploring future possibilities" thing, either. They should've thought of that before shutting down their main power source 🤷‍♂️. I hope they can get it sorted out soon, but for now, it's just a void in the city's craft beer scene 👎.

Just found out that Motor City Brewing Works is closing down temporarily 🤕 I'm so bummed, been going there for years and it's always a blast. They have such a great selection of beers and the atmosphere is always so chill 😎. The fact that they're exploring new possibilities for the brand is good news, fingers crossed they come back stronger than ever 💪. It's crazy to think about how much history they've got, been around since '94! 📆 Anyway, I hope all the fans and regulars get a chance to raise a glass and celebrate with them one last time before they close their doors for now 🍺🎉

ugh what's gonna happen to ghettoblaster ale 🤔? i mean, that stuff was legendary! i used to go there with my friends all the time and we'd always try new beers... the cass corridor community is really gonna miss motor city brewing works, i hope they come back stronger than ever 💪. how much trouble did they get into by terminating that steam line tho? seems like a pretty big risk 🤷‍♀️. any ideas if they'll be reopening or what's next for mcbw? 🍺👀

omg this is so sad 🤕... they've been a part of detroit's community for like forever and now they're just gonna shut down for who knows how long? 🤔 it's not just the beer that we'll miss, it's the whole vibe and atmosphere they bring to the taproom 🎉. i'm sure there are lots of fans out there wondering what happened and when they'll be back. fingers crossed 🤞 that it's not for good! maybe this is just a temporary break so they can come up with some new plans or get their steam line sorted out 💡. we love you motor city brewing works and we hope to see you back soon! ❤️

oh man this is like so sad 🤕 i mean detroit has lost its crown jewel of breweries motor city brewing works shutting down is a huge deal for the city's beer scene 🍺 it's been around for 31 years and what does it get in return? a temporary closure thanks to some steam line issue 😒 anyway can't wait to see what they have planned next maybe we'll get more of those awesome beers like ghettoblaster ale or notorious dripa 🤞 they should at least let us know when we can expect to be back to our usual drinking selves 💁‍♀️

I just heard about Motor City Brewing Works closing down for a bit 🤕 and I'm totally bummed 😔. They've been a part of my community for like, forever 🙌! The thermal steam line thingy is just weird... I mean, what's next? 🤷‍♀️

I remember when they first opened up back in '94, it was like a whole new world of beer 🍺🌎. And the pizza, oh man, their pizza was always on point 🔥! They hosted some awesome art shows and music events too... I'm gonna miss those vibes 😎.

But you know what? Motor City Brewing Works is more than just a brewery - it's a part of Detroit's history 📚👍. We've gotta rally around our local favorites and show 'em we care ❤️! Maybe this temporary closure means something new is coming... fingers crossed 🤞

Here's a little diagram to represent my feelings:

OMG 🤯 it's like, can you even imagine Detroit without MCBW? I've been going there for years and their beers are literally the best! Like, Ghettoblaster Ale is my fave 🍺. I know they're exploring options and all but it's still weird to think that this iconic spot might not be back soon. The digital montage thing is a cool touch tho 👀. They should def keep us updated on what's happening... fingers crossed they find a way to bring the brewery back online 💪

I'm really gonna miss this place 🤕. 31 years is a long time, and it's sad to think that they won't be serving those Ghettoblaster Ales for a bit. I mean, who doesn't love a good IPA or pale ale? The fact that they're exploring future possibilities is a positive, but it's hard not to worry about what this means for the brand and the community. I've had some great times at their taproom with friends, and it's always been a hub for local art and music events. Fingers crossed they come back stronger than ever! 🤞

aww man 🤕, detroit's motor city brewing works shutting down temporarily after 31 yrs is like losing a part of the city's soul 🌆 they brought so much joy & community to cass corridor with their unique beers & events, and now its just a big blank space 🎉😔 hope they find a way to revive it or get a new spot up & running soon 🤞

🤕😔 The Motor City Brewing Works shutdown has me feeling like I just lost my favorite 🍺 hangout spot 😢. Those guys were brewin' up some amazing beers for over 30 years and it's crazy that they had to close down due to a power issue 💡. What really gets me is how much the brewery was more than just beer – it was an event space, art gallery, and a hub for the community 🎨🌟.

I'm keepin' my fingers crossed that they'll figure out what's goin' on and get back up and runnin' soon ⏱️. Till then, I'm gonna raise a virtual glass and toast to Motor City Brewing Works 🍻! It's gonna be hard to see 'em go, but I know they'll come back even stronger 💪.

Ugh, I'm literally devastated 🤕, you know how much I love checking out their taproom with friends every now and then? And that Ghettoblaster Ale was like my go-to order, lol! I mean, the whole Cass Corridor community is gonna be feeling this, it's like losing a part of our city's identity. They're exploring new possibilities, but come on, can't they just figure it out already? 🤞 I've been following their socials and saw that montage of old pics - it really hit me how much history they've got behind them. Fingers crossed they'll be back on tap soon 🍺

🤔 I'm totally bummed out about this news! I mean, who doesn't love a good Ghettoblaster Ale? 🍺 It's like they're shutting down the ultimate hangout spot in the city - you know, where the Craft Beer Squad always hangs out 🤝. The Cass Corridor community is going to feel this loss so much more than just beer distribution 🤕. Those owners must have been feeling some serious pressure, especially with all that drama from the steam line terminating 💸. What's next for Motor City? Will they make a comeback like in that one movie where the underdog brews win over everyone's hearts? 🏆 Maybe this is their chance to reboot and come back stronger than ever 🔥.

I'm totally bummed about this 🤕. I mean, 31 years is a long time and they've built up such a loyal following over the years. It's not just about the beer, it's about the community that's formed around it. I've spent so many happy hours at their taproom with friends, trying out new brews and enjoying live music events. It's not just a place to grab a pint, it's a hub for people to come together.

I get that the thermal steam line being terminated was a major blow, but I wish they'd been more upfront about it from the start. Now we're all left wondering what's going on and when we'll be able to go back. It's really frustrating. And what's with the "raise a glass" vibe? I know they want to keep the spirits high, but come on, can't they give us some real information instead of just being cryptic? 🤔

omg what's goin on with motor city brewing works!! i mean i've been goin to this place for years and it's like a second home to me lol i remember tryin that Ghettoblaster Ale for the first time and lovin every drop of it 🍺😂 but seriously, 31 years is a long time and i'm sure this isn't just about gettin power back on they gotta be thinkin 'bout somethin bigger 🤔

i was talkin to my friend who's always been a beer aficionado and he said maybe this is an opportunity for them to revamp the whole brewery like, take it online or somethin 📱 but idk man, detroit's gonna miss motor city brewing works so hard 😢

anywayz, i'm def keepin an eye on what happens next with mcbw 🤞 and if anyone else is as heartbroken as me about this let's get a convo goin 💬

omg 🤯 i'm literally dying over here!! detroit's motor city brewing works is like my fave place ever 🍺😭 they've been around for like 31 years and now they're just gonna shut down temp... what's going on?!? 🤔 i mean, they said it's cuz of that steam line thingy but idk... it's just so sudden 😨. i love their beers like ghettoblaster ale and notorious drita... and have you been to their taproom?!?! its so lit! 💃🏽🍺 i'm def gonna miss this place... 🤕 can we please just get some updates on what's going down? 🤔💬

Ugh, this is just great, another iconic spot in Detroit gets shut down and I'm sure it'll never reopen 🤦‍♂️. 31 years of history and tradition down the drain because of some technical issue with a steam line? It's like they say, "when it rains, it pours"... or in this case, when it shuts down, everything else follows 😔. I mean, what are the chances that something like this happens to Detroit's oldest brewery just after New Year's? And now everyone's just supposed to... wait around for their beloved MCBW to come back online? Like, what's the plan here? They're not even giving us a clear reason why they're closing. It's just "we'll see what the future holds"... yeah right 🙄.

omg I'm literally heartbroken 😭 just heard about Motor City Brewing Works shutting down temporarily... that place was like a institution in Detroit 🤯 31 years is a huge chunk of time, and for the community to lose it right now is tough 🙏 I mean, who wouldn't love their unique beers like Ghettoblaster Ale? 😍 Not to mention all the art exhibitions and music events they hosted - Motor City Brewing Works was more than just a brewery, it was a cultural hub 💃 Anyway, fingers crossed that the brewery finds a way to get back up and running ASAP 🤞 this can't be permanent... I'll be keeping an eye on their social media for any updates 📱

Omg I'm literally devastated 😭 they've been a part of this community for so long it's hard to imagine Detroit without them... what if they can't get the thermal steam line fixed?! 🤞 I mean, those Ghettoblaster Ale and Notorious DRIPA beers were insane! 🍺 Anyways, I hope they're okay and figure out some way to come back stronger than ever 💪. Anyone else super bummed about this?

man... 🤕 it's like the end of an era for detroit's beer scene. i've been going to motor city brewing works with my friends since they first opened back in 94... we always had a blast at their taproom, whether it was a concert or just hanging out and trying new beers. ghettoblaster ale is still one of my faves to this day 🍺. but at the same time, i'm also kinda worried about what's gonna happen next - are they gonna be able to get back up and running? have they got some solid plans in place? it feels like there's a bit of limbo right now for their fans... fingers crossed that they figure out a way to keep the magic alive 🤞.
