Detroit's Motor City Brewing Works Shuts Down Temporarily After 31 Years, Leaving Beer Lovers and Community in Limbo

In a surprise move, Detroit's oldest brewery, Motor City Brewing Works, has announced that it will be taking a break until further notice. The iconic taproom, which has been serving craft beer and pizzas to the Cass Corridor community for over three decades, will remain open until Sunday, February 8, featuring a digital montage of historic brewery photos.

The brewery's decision comes after the historic thermal steam line that powered it was terminated on December 31, leaving the business without its primary source of power. While beer distribution to retailers continues via assistance from fellow breweries, Motor City Brewing Works will be exploring future possibilities for the brand and the brewery as a whole.

Founded in 1994 by craft beer aficionado John Linardos, Motor City Brewing Works was known for its unique brews, such as Ghettoblaster Ale and Notorious DRIPA. OMG 🤯 it's like, can you even imagine Detroit without MCBW? I've been going there for years and their beers are literally the best! Like, Ghettoblaster Ale is my fave 🍺. man... 🤕 it's like the end of an era for detroit's beer scene. i've been going to motor city brewing works with my friends since they first opened back in 94... we always had a blast at their taproom, whether it was a concert or just hanging out and trying new beers. ghettoblaster ale is still one of my faves to this day 🍺. but at the same time, i'm also kinda worried about what's gonna happen next - are they gonna be able to get back up and running? have they got some solid plans in place? it feels like there's a bit of limbo right now for their fans... fingers crossed that they figure out a way to keep the magic alive 🤞.
