First medical evacuee leaves Gaza as Rafah crossing reopens for handful of Palestinians – as it happened

First medical evacuee from Gaza enters Egypt, marking key step in ceasefire with Israel, but limited access remains

A Palestinian patient was transported by ambulance across the Rafah border crossing into Egypt on Monday, marking a significant development in the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The first medical evacuee to leave Gaza since the crossing reopened has entered Egypt after Israeli troops seized it in May 2024.

The move represents a key step towards re-establishing life-saving medical care for thousands of Palestinians in need of treatment in Gaza. About 20,000 children and adults require evacuation through the crossing, according to health officials.

However, the limited access to the crossing has sparked criticism that it is more symbolic than substantive, with many Palestinians unable to cross into Egypt or exit the territory due to Israeli restrictions. No goods will be allowed to pass through, AP reported.

Gaza's humanitarian crisis deepens as thousands of people struggle to access vital medical care. The World Health Organization has warned that winter conditions in Gaza, coupled with inadequate water and sanitation facilities, are contributing to an increase in acute respiratory infections, including severe cases requiring intensive care.

Meanwhile, tensions between Iran and the US remain high, with Iranian leaders increasingly worried about a potential US strike that could break their grip on power. Six current and former officials have briefed supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the concerns, highlighting the need for urgent action to prevent widespread protests.

In related news, Israel has announced it will suspend Médecins Sans Frontières' (MSF) operations in Gaza after the humanitarian organization refused to hand over personal details of its staff members to Israeli authorities. MSF slammed the move as a "pretext" to restrict aid.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the Palestinian technocratic committee is set to return to the territory later this week. The group, which has 12 members, has been meeting in Cairo after being unveiled last month.

omg u no how hard its 2 get med care in gaza lol i mean its like 20k ppl need evac but theres stil all these restrictions 🤯 like whats the point of having a ceasefire if ppl cant even move thru the border? its all so symbolic rn 👎 gotta feel for those people who need med attention ASAP tho 💔

Wow 😊🚑 Egypt's reopening of its border crossing with Gaza might be a small step towards easing tensions but what's really needed is more concrete efforts to address the humanitarian crisis 🤕. Thousands of people need life-saving medical care and it's not just about evacuees, but also about getting essential goods in 💸🚫

its so sick that ppl are strugglin in gaza 🤕 cant believe theres still no access for goods or people 🚫🚪 meanwhile msf is just tryin to do their job but israel is makin it super hard for them 💔 cant they jus let ppl get the help they need ❤️ hope this ceasefire thing actually sticks and ppl can start gettin the care they deserve 🤞

🚑💉 This ceasefire thingy is all well and good, but let's not forget who's really pulling the strings here. I mean, have you seen the access restrictions? It's like they're trying to control the narrative. If it was just about getting medical aid to those in need, wouldn't we see some actual movement through that crossing? But nope, it's all about optics and appearances. And what's with the MSF situation? Aren't we talking about human rights here? 🤔💔 It's like Israel is trying to use humanitarian aid as a tool for control. I'm not buying it. We need to look beyond the surface level and question whose interests are really being served here... 👀📊

I'm intrigued by this development 🤔... while it's a welcome step towards re-establishing medical care for those in dire need, I think we're still far from addressing the systemic issues that have led to Gaza's humanitarian crisis 🚑. The limited access to the crossing raises valid concerns about its symbolic value versus actual substance 💸. It's disheartening to hear that thousands are struggling to get basic necessities, and winter conditions exacerbate the situation ❄️. What I'd love to see is more concrete measures being taken by all parties involved to ensure sustainable aid delivery and meaningful reforms 🔄...

I mean, it's about time something was done about Gaza... I guess? 🤷‍♂️ A medical evacuee finally made it out, yay! Meanwhile, thousands of people are still stuck there with no access to proper medical care. It's like, super convenient that only 20,000 people need help, right? 😒 And now they're just going to let them all leave whenever Israel decides... I mean, who needs a reliable ceasefire when you've got humanitarian crises, am I right? 🚑 The US and Iran are still at it too... because what's a little international tension without some nuclear threats? 🤯 MSF is like, "Hey, we're not going to give up our staff's personal info"... and Israel's all, "Oh, fine, you can just leave." 🙄

lol what's up with all these evacuees huh? 🤔 like they're making progress but stuff still isn't getting through 🚫 it's not like they can just drop off the goods at the border lol 🚲 and oh yeah MSF got shut down too 😒 what's the point of even having a ceasefire if people aren't actually allowed to get the help they need? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 I'm not surprised about all these developments happening at once, but I gotta say, it's kinda concerning that people are still struggling to get medical attention in Gaza. Like, shouldn't we be doing more than just having symbolic steps towards a ceasefire? 🚑 We need real access for those who need help ASAP! And can we please not forget about the 20k+ ppl stuck on both sides of the border? It's like, what even is the point of all these meetings if nothin's changin'? 💔 The fact that MSF got kicked out 'cause they wouldn't give their staff's info to Israel just shows how messed up things are. And now Israel's suspending aid orgs' ops? No thanks! We need those people on the ground helpin' 🚨

Just read about the first medical evacuee from Gaza entering Egypt 🤞 and I gotta say, its a small step in the right direction, but there's still so much work to be done 💔. Limited access is super frustrating, it feels like Israel is just going through the motions without really trying to help those in need 🤦‍♂️. 20,000 people are waiting for medical care and its crazy that they're not getting it 🚑. Winter conditions in Gaza are already bad enough, but with no aid coming in, things are gonna get even tougher ❄️. We should be seeing more than just symbolic movements towards peace 💖.

I'M SO GLAD TO SEE THAT THE FIRST MEDICAL EVACUEE FROM GAZA HAS ENTERED EGYPT!!! IT'S A HUGE STEP TOWARDS RESTORING LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL CARE FOR THOSE IN NEED, BUT LET'S BE REAL, THE ACCESS IS STILL SUPER LIMITED AND IT'S NOT GOING TO MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE UNTIL THE CROSSING OPENS UP FULLY 🤞. I FEEL FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WAITING TO GET OUT OF GAZA AND GET THE MEDICAL CARE THEY NEED - IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!!! 💔

come on 🤯, a medical evacuee from gaza entering egypt doesn't really make me think things are going to be okay there 🙄. it's just a small step out of the darkness they're living in, but still no real solution for all those ppl stuck in gaza. and what's up with israel restricting goods from passing through? that just means more suffering for innocent people 💔. i mean, can't we have a bit more than just symbolic gestures here 🤷‍♂️?

🤔 This whole thing with Gaza and Egypt feels super symbolic, you know? Like, the ambulance made it across, but what about all the other people who can't get out? It's like Israel is giving a big ol' Band-Aid to the wound, but not actually treating the underlying issue. And don't even get me started on Iran and the US... 😬 it's like they're playing a super high-stakes game of geopolitical chess, while Gaza just suffers in the middle. We need some real solutions here, not just temporary fixes 🚑💊

lol what's up with this news tho? Egypt lets one patient from Gaza in, but it's all super symbolic cuz Israel still blocks most of 'em 🤦‍♂️. Like, we know medical care is bad in Gaza, but can't we just get some actual aid through? 20k people need help and only a few are getting in... meanwhile Iran & US are stressing each other out over some super vague threats 💀🚫. Can't even a basic ceasefire hold because Israel's all like "nope" 🤷‍♂️. And poor MSF gets tossed out cuz they won't spill the beans on their staff 😒. Just another day in Gaza 🌫️😩

🤦‍♂️ Like, finally! Some good news comes out of Gaza for once... 🙏 It's like, a medical evacuee is making it out of there... yay! 💊 But let's be real, 20k people still can't get the help they need because Israel is being super tight-lipped about who gets to cross and when. 🚫 And on top of that, no goods are allowed to pass through? That's just peachy. 🍑 I mean, what's next? No Facebook or Instagram for Gazans?! 🤣

Ugh 🙄 I'm so done with these 'symbolic steps' 🤦‍♂️ towards a resolution in Gaza... It's all just a facade at this point. Like, how many times do we need to see some high-profile medical evacuee make it out before anything meaningful actually happens? 🤔 The fact that goods can't even pass through the crossing is just a joke 🚫. And what about those 20k people still stuck in Gaza, unable to get medical care 🤕? Winter's coming and we're just sitting here twiddling our thumbs 💀. I mean, can't we do better than this? 😒

Ugh, can't believe what's going on with Gaza 🤕... Like, I get that a medical evacuee just entered Egypt and all, but it's still super frustrating that people can't even get out of the territory due to Israeli restrictions. It's like, hello, human rights, right? 🙄

And don't even get me started on the limited access thing... I mean, I guess it's better than nothing, but it's just so symbolic when people are still struggling to get medical care. It feels like a Band-Aid solution at best 🤕.

I'm just worried about those 20,000 people who need treatment in Gaza and how they're going to get it. It's not like the situation is going to magically improve overnight. And what's with the suspension of MSF operations? Like, doesn't anyone care about the humanitarian crisis unfolding right before our eyes? 🤷‍♂️

🙏 I feel so bad for those people stuck in Gaza, it's like they're running out of options over there. The fact that only medical evacuees are allowed to cross the border is a big step forward, but what about everyone else? Like, how can you just leave the most vulnerable ones behind while everyone else suffers?

I'm also super worried about Iran and the US, it's like they're playing with fire over there. And on top of all this, MSF being kicked out for not giving up their staff's info is just ridiculous 🤔. It's like, can't we just try to help each other out without turning it into a game of cat and mouse?

Gaza needs so much more than just medical aid right now, they need a real way to get people out safely and rebuild their lives. And we need to be supporting them in that effort, not just piling on the pressure and criticism 🤷‍♀️.

🚑💉 just saw this news and i'm literally shook that a med evacuee from gaza finally made it into egypt!!! 🙏 it's like, the world was holding its breath waiting for this to happen. but at the same time, idk if it's gonna be enough to make a real difference in gaza right now? 🤔 20k people need medical care and they're still not getting access... what's up with that?! 😡 and btw, msf just got kicked out of israel for refusing to give personal info to the gov... like, can't we just have some decent aid flowin' into gaza already?! 🤷‍♀️
