'Focus on football': Guardiola criticised by Manchester Jewish group over Palestine comments

Pep Guardiola has come under fire from the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester & Region over his recent comments on Israel's attacks on Gaza. The city's Jewish community is urging the Manchester City manager to "focus on football" and refrain from making public statements that they claim fuel antisemitic acts.

Guardiola's comments, made at a charity event in Barcelona last week and during a press conference this week, highlighted his emotional response to the suffering of innocent people caught up in conflict. He described it as something that "hurts" him and compels him to speak out.

However, the Jewish Representative Council has accused Guardiola of failing to display solidarity with Manchester's Jewish community, including after an attack on a local synagogue last October. The group claims this is not the first time he has strayed into commentary on international affairs, citing a previous statement made by Guardiola as another example of his willingness to speak out.

Guardiola defended his position, stating that humans have a duty to stand up against harm and killing innocent people, regardless of nationality or background. He claimed that if he were to remain silent, he would be complicit in the suffering of others.

The criticism from the Jewish Representative Council is aimed at preventing Guardiola's comments from being perceived as antisemitic or inflammatory, with the group urging him to be more mindful of his words and refrain from further public statements on sensitive topics.

can u blame pep guardiola for speakin out against these heinous attacks? im mean, who wouldn't wanna stand up 4 innocent ppl caught in the crossfire? 🤗 its like, if u dont speak up, doesnt that make u part of the problem? but at the same time, i get why the jewish representative council is upset - we dont want ppl to be misconstrued or hurt by his comments. maybe pep just needs 2 take a step back, breathe, and think 'bout how his words might affect others before spokin out next time 💭

Ugh, I feel like this all happened before... remember that time when Roberto Carlos said something similar about Israel? 🙄 Anyway, Pep's just trying to bring attention to a serious issue, but I guess some people are too sensitive. His comments were heartfelt and came from a good place. What's the big deal? He's not calling for a boycott or anything like that... it's just his opinion. The Jewish community in Manchester is being super uptight about this 🙃. Can't we all just focus on football and try to understand each other's perspectives?

I think it's a bit rich that they're calling out Pep for speaking up against harm and killing innocent people, like what's happening in Gaza right now 🤔💔. I mean, isn't that kind of the point of having a platform and being a public figure? He's not trying to be inflammatory or hurtful, he's just using his voice to bring attention to something that affects him deeply ❤️🌎.

I also don't think it's fair to say that he's failing to show solidarity with Manchester's Jewish community when the actual attack happened like, a year ago 🕰️. That's not exactly in his control, and I don't think anyone would expect him to suddenly drop everything and rush back to Manchester just because someone made a comment about it 😐.

What I do get is that people have different opinions on how best to address these issues, but shouldn't we at least try to listen to each other's perspectives without getting all huffy and puffy about it? 🤷‍♂️💬

lol dont 4get that ther r ppl whos opinions are like, super important 2 b considered lol but honestly, pep guardiola is doin whats rite... hes speakin out against injustice & hurting ppl! i mean, who isnt hurt by wars & attacks? im all 4 freedom of speech & not bein afraid 2 say sumthin if it means standin up 4 what u believe in. the jewish rep council is just tryna silence him lol & i think its a shame cuz pep has been vocal about mental health & sports too! hes a good guy who cares & shouldnt b shamed 4 speakin out

OMG u guys! So Pep Guardiola got roasted by the Jewish Rep Council in Manchester for speaking out against Israel's attacks on Gaza 🤯🇮🇱 I'm like both sides can see a point here, right? Guardiola's comments were super emotional and he's clearly got love for humanity 💕. But on the other hand, you gotta feel for the Jewish community who's already dealing with a lot of hate & tension...it's all about context 🤔. I'm not sure if Pep should just stick to football or say more, but it's clear he wants to use his platform to speak up against harm 🌟. The Rep Council is just trying to keep things chill and prevent any drama 🙏. Anyway, this whole thing is giving me so much to think about...what do u guys think? Should Pep be quiet or speak out? 💬
