Green Day to open 60th Super Bowl with anniversary ceremony celebrating generations of MVPs

Green Day Set to Rock 60th Super Bowl Anniversary with Tribute Performance

The National Football League (NFL) has chosen an iconic East Bay punk-rock band, Green Day, to kick off its 60th anniversary celebration of the Super Bowl. The opening act for Super Bowl 60 will take place on February 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, marking a homecoming performance for the band and a fitting tribute to six decades of championship history.

The legendary trio of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool is expected to deliver an energetic setlist featuring some of their most recognizable anthems. Their performance will serve as a nostalgic nod to generations of Super Bowl MVPs who have taken the field over the years.

"We're super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!" Armstrong exclaimed. "We're honored to welcome the MVPs who've shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let's have fun! Let's get loud!"

The ceremony, which airs live on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, and Universo at 3 p.m. Pacific Time, promises to be an unforgettable experience. In addition to Green Day's performance, Charlie Puth will sing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile will perform "America the Beautiful," and Coco Jones will deliver a powerful rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

According to Tim Tubito, the NFL's senior director of event and game presentation, this opening ceremony is an ideal way to commemorate 60 years of Super Bowl history. By partnering with NBC Sports, the league aims to create a collective celebration that will captivate fans both in attendance at Levi's Stadium and around the world.

🎸😊 I'm so stoked about Green Day playing at the Super Bowl! They're one of my favorite bands ever, and to see them perform at such an iconic event is just amazing 🤩. It's gonna be a blast from the past with all those classic hits - "American Idiot", "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" are some of my faves! The NFL's doing a great job celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history, and I'm sure it's gonna be a huge hit 🏈. Bring on the energy and excitement - can't wait to see it all go down! 💥

🤩 I'm so stoked about Green Day playing at the Super Bowl! It's gonna be a total blast from the past for all the old-school punk rockers out there 🎸. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Billie Joe Armstrong rocking out on stage again? 🤘 And can we talk about how epic it is that they're doing a tribute performance? It's like they're bringing back the energy of the '90s all over again 💥.

I've been thinking, what if Green Day does a whole setlist of their classic hits? We'd totally be in for an awesome time 🎶. I'm picturing "Good Riddance", "American Idiot", and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" getting the Super Bowl crowd pumped up like never before 🤩.

But, you know what's even more awesome? The whole ceremony is gonna be this amazing nostalgic trip for everyone who loves football and music 🎵. Charlie Puth singing the national anthem and Brandi Carlile performing "America the Beautiful"? It's gonna be so cool to see all these talented artists come together 🌟.

Wait, I just thought of something... what if Green Day does a little cameo appearance with some other iconic musicians? That would totally be the cherry on top of this already epic Super Bowl party 🎉!

Ugh I'm so down for some Green Day being dragged out of their rock 'n' roll retirement to cater to the NFL's 60th anniversary party 🤪. Who thought it was a good idea to have a punk-rock band open up the Super Bowl, anyway? It sounds like a total snooze fest to me 😴. And don't even get me started on Charlie Puth and Brandi Carlile getting their voices warmed up for the ceremony... I mean, can't they just let some actual rockstars play for once? 🤘

You know what really caught my attention here? 🤔 Green Day as the opening act for the Super Bowl... sounds like a clever move to me! 🎸 I mean, who better to get the crowd pumped up than Billie Joe Armstrong himself? 😏 And have you thought about the symbolism behind it all? The East Bay punk-rock band from California, now playing at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara... isn't that just another layer of corporate control? 🤑 Like they're redefining what a "rock show" means. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but I do think we need to keep an eye on this... 👀

omg u think green day will actually get loud lol i mean theyre like a legendary band but also billie joe armstrong is kinda old 😂 anyway im super hyped for super bowl 60 i have to ask tho wut does the national anthem even mean to americans? can we get a video of coco jones singing "lift every voice and sing" or will it be just live on tv?? 🤔

Ugh what's up with this super bowl thingy? It's like they're trying to make it all about the music lol. I mean Green Day is cool and all but 60 years of football history? Can't they just have some decent halftime performances that aren't so forced?

And honestly, who thought it was a good idea for them to put Charlie Puth on the lineup? Like, what's next? Having a Maroon 5 performance at the Olympics?

But I guess if you're gonna do it, you gotta go all in. And from what I've heard, Green Day is actually pretty stoked about it so maybe they'll make it work? We'll see.

I don't know... 🤔 I mean, I love Green Day, they're legends, but are they really the best fit for this Super Bowl thing? I'm not saying it'll be bad or anything, they've got some sick songs, but can't we get someone a bit more modern? 🎸 Like Billie Joe's still got some decent vocals left in him, but Mike Dirnt's bass playing is getting on a bit... 😂. And Tré Cool's always been my fave, he's like the coolest drummer out there! 👏. I don't know, maybe I'm just being old-fashioned, but it seems like this whole Super Bowl thing has changed so much over the years... 🤷‍♂️.

This is gonna be EPIC 🤟! I've been a huge Green Day fan since Billie Joe was screaming his lungs out on "American Idiot" 🎸 back in 2004, and to see them take the stage for Super Bowl 60 is like a dream come true. They always know how to bring the energy and get everyone singing along 🎶. And can we talk about Charlie Puth's national anthem performance? Hopefully he won't mess it up too badly 😅... this whole thing just screams nostalgia, I'm hyped!

🤔 Green Day's setlist better be on point or they're gonna get roasted from this community 🎸 I'm hyped for the nostalgia factor but don't expect me to start singing 'American Idiot' during the national anthem 🙄 Meanwhile, 60 years of Super Bowl history is a big deal, can we get some more female representation up there? 🤷‍♀️

omg i cant even right now!!! Green Day is going to rock the house at super bowl 60!!! its like a dream come true theyre one of my fave bands ever i mean who wouldve thought theyd be opening up the big game???!! billie joe armstrong is literally the coolest and i love how excited he is about it i wish id be there in santa clara to see them perform live thats going to be so epic!!!
