Houston Police Department Arrestee Dies at Harris County Jail
A medical emergency has claimed the life of a 55-year-old inmate, Lenton Gallow Jr., at the Harris County Jail in Texas. According to officials, Gallow was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Gallow had been in custody since January 5th, after being arrested by the Houston Police Department on charges of criminal trespass and theft. Authorities have also stated that Gallow was considered an out-of-state fugitive at the time of his arrest. When questioned about his living situation, he reportedly told officials that he was homeless.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office has reported Gallow's death to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, while the Texas Rangers are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing. Standard protocol dictates that an internal affairs division will also be looking into the matter.
An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is scheduled to determine the exact cause of Gallow's death following his body being returned from the hospital. This marks the first inmate death at the jail this year, with 20 reported deaths in 2025 alone according to local reports.
