How to use call screening on an iPhone

Apple has taken a significant step towards combating spam calls with the introduction of Call Screening in its latest iOS 26 update. This new feature not only filters out unknown numbers but also prompts callers to identify themselves in real-time, displaying their response on your screen for you to assess whether the call is worth taking.

To access this feature, your iPhone must be running iOS 26 and capable of supporting models from the iPhone 11 onwards. Before enabling Call Screening, ensure that your device is updated to the latest version of iOS, as the feature only becomes accessible within the redesigned Phone app introduced in iOS 26.

The process is straightforward: open Settings > General > Software Update, check if iOS 26 is available and install it. Once your device is up-to-date, navigate to the Phone settings menu, where you can select Screen Unknown Callers.

Within this section, Apple provides three options for handling unknown calls: Never, Ask Reason for Calling, or Silence. The Ask Reason for Calling option activates the screening feature, prompting callers to state their name and reason for calling before your iPhone displays their response on screen. If you choose this option, tap it to enable Call Screening.

When a call from an unfamiliar number arrives, your iPhone will automatically filter it through Apple's new screening system. The caller will hear an automated message asking them to identify themselves, while you can read the response in real-time and decide whether to pick up or ignore the call.

One key aspect of Call Screening is that it doesnโ€™t affect known callers or recent outgoing numbers. If a call comes from someone in your contacts list, the feature won't activate, ensuring that genuine callers continue to ring normally.

By introducing this new feature, Apple has taken a logical step towards mitigating spam calls while maintaining user convenience and privacy.

๐Ÿคฉ I'm so hyped about Apple's new Call Screening feature! It's like they're finally taking the whole "spam call" situation seriously ๐Ÿ˜‚. I mean, who hasn't had to deal with those annoying robotic messages asking you what number you're calling? ๐Ÿ“ž Now, we can say goodbye to those pesky calls and hello to a more private and secure iPhone experience! ๐Ÿ’ป

But what really gets me is how seamless the process is - just update your iOS, go into Phone settings, and voilร ! You've got yourself a feature that actually works. ๐Ÿค“ The fact that it doesn't mess with known contacts or outgoing numbers is like, totally genius. I'm loving this move by Apple and can't wait to see what other cool features they have up their sleeve! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Ugh ๐Ÿค• another thing to deal with on my phone... I mean, who thought it was a good idea for automated messages to be going out? It's just gonna make me more annoyed when I'm already stressed about all the spam calls I get ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And don't even get me started on how long this is taking to roll out... iOS 26 and still no word on when I can expect it on my older iPhone ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I just got back from the most amazing hike over the weekend ๐Ÿž๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Œ. The views were stunning and I saw so many beautiful wildflowers blooming everywhere. It made me realize how much I need to spend more time outdoors, you know? Like, what's this thing called "balance" in life if we're just stuck inside staring at our screens all day? Anyway, back to spam calls... yeah, that's a big deal for anyone who's ever gotten those annoying robocalls.

idk why apple is takin so long 2 implement dis feature lol... anywaaays, stats are on its side tho ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ‘ according to a recent study, 70% of americans have reported receivin spam calls in the past month alone ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’”. that's a lot of ppl gettin hit with annoying robocalls! ๐Ÿšช meanwhile, since ios 26 dropped, i've seen a significant reduction in my own spam call notifications ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ‘ guess its working for some people already ๐Ÿ’ฏ

I just got back from the most random road trip over the weekend ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ! I was driving along and saw this tiny little cafรฉ that had the best avocado toast EVER ๐Ÿฅ‘๐ŸŒฎ. I swear, it was love at first bite ๐Ÿ˜. Anyway, back to spam calls... yeah, it's getting out of hand ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ˜ค. But hey, if Apple can make tech easier for us, then yay! iOS 26 is like the new season of Stranger Things โ€“ I'm both excited and a little worried about what other surprises they have in store ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ‘€.

I just got back from the most amazing hike over the weekend ๐Ÿž๏ธ, and I'm still on a high from seeing those wildflowers in full bloom ๐Ÿ˜Š. The colors were insane! Anyway, back to these new features... have you guys noticed how often you're missing calls because they go straight to voicemail? Like, what if it's someone important trying to reach you? ๐Ÿค” Call Screening seems like a game-changer, but I'm still skeptical about the whole "ask reason for calling" thing... can you imagine if someone tries to scam you with a fake story? ๐Ÿ™ˆ

๐Ÿ“ฑ I'm glad Apple is taking action against those annoying spam calls! ๐Ÿคฏ It's about time we have more control over our phone experience. The way Call Screening works sounds super convenient - just tap to enable it and let the automated system do its thing. ๐Ÿ˜Š One thing that got me thinking is how this feature will impact telemarketers and scammers... they're not going to be able to just blast out random calls anymore, right? ๐Ÿค‘ It's also good to know that known contacts won't get affected, so we can still make legitimate calls without any issues. Overall, I'm a fan of Apple taking steps to protect its users from spam. ๐Ÿ‘

Omg, can you even believe it?! ๐Ÿคฏ They're finally doing something about those annoying spam calls! I mean, who hasn't gotten a call from some random number asking for money or trying to sell us something? ๐Ÿ“ž Ugh! But now with Call Screening in iOS 26, we can say goodbye to all that noise. And the best part is it's super easy to set up and use - just go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest version of iOS. Then, navigate to the Phone settings menu and select Screen Unknown Callers. Boom! You're good to go ๐Ÿš€! I'm so hyped for this update, it's like a breath of fresh air ๐Ÿ’จ. Can't wait to see if it makes a difference in reducing those spam calls ๐Ÿ˜Ž

omg i'm so glad apple is finally doing something about those annoying spam calls ๐Ÿ™„! call screening is literally going to change my life - no more creepy random numbers ruining my day ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. the fact that it only affects unknown callers is super smart, btw. i mean, why ruin genuine calls when you can just screen out the spammers? ๐Ÿค”. and yay for not having to download any third-party apps! this is exactly what we need - a simple, easy fix from apple ๐Ÿ’ก. thanks, guys! ๐Ÿ‘

I think it's pretty ironic that Apple is introducing Call Screening at this time ๐Ÿค”. I mean, we're already seeing a massive influx of misinformation on social media and the politicians are struggling to keep up with fact-checking ๐Ÿ“ฐ. It raises questions about who's really calling whom - are these automated calls from spammers or is it just people trying to get their voices heard in the noise? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ And what does this say about our society that we need a feature like Call Screening to filter out legitimate calls from spam? Shouldn't we be working on building trust and transparency instead of relying on technology to save us from ourselves? ๐Ÿ’ป

Ugh, I'm so sick of these spam calls ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ˜ฉ and now Apple's trying to tackle them with Call Screening? It's about time, but I wish they'd also made it easier to report these annoying callers without having to jump through hoops. Can't we just have a simple "Report Spam" option in the Phone app already? ๐Ÿ™„ And what's up with the three options for handling unknown calls? Can't they just make one default setting that doesn't ask me if I want to be bothered by some random caller? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜Š This is so cool! I was just thinking about how annoying spam calls can be ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ‘Ž and now Apple's got a solution for it ๐Ÿคฉ! Call Screening sounds like a game-changer, it's so nice that they're keeping known callers alone ๐Ÿ™. Not sure if this will make all my friends ๐Ÿ˜ด because we always have those funny conversations lol. Anyone tried this out yet? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

omg yaaas finally an update to stop those pesky spam calls on my iphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ป i was getting so tired of those annoying robocalls every single day, now i can just enable call screening and voila no more!!! it's genius that apple is using real-time caller identification tho, that way i know if the person on the other end is legit or not. and i love how it doesn't interfere with my actual calls to ppl i care about, gotta keep those people at the top of my priority list ๐Ÿ’ฏ

I'm so hyped about this new feature ๐Ÿคฉ! Call Screening is like a superhero cape for your iPhone ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ. No more unwanted calls from random numbers ๐Ÿ˜ณ. It's so simple to set up too, just go to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 26. Then, in the Phone settings menu, select Screen Unknown Callers and choose what you want to do with those pesky unknown callers ๐Ÿ“ž.

I love that it doesn't mess with your contacts or outgoing numbers either ๐Ÿ‘. That way, people you care about will still ring normally, and spammers won't get through ๐Ÿ˜…. And let's be real, who hasn't had a call from a random number and just hung up because they didn't want to deal with the drama ๐Ÿ™„? This feature is like a breath of fresh air ๐Ÿ’จ.

Here's a simple diagram to illustrate how it works:
```
+---------------+
| Unknown Call |
+---------------+
|
| Automated
| Message:
| "Who's this?"
+---------------+ |
| Answer
v
+---------------+ |
Caller's Name| |
Reason for |
Calling |
+---------------+
```
Anyway, I think this is a solid move by Apple ๐Ÿค“.

๐Ÿคฉ oh man I'm so glad apple is finally doing something about those annoying spam calls! ๐Ÿ“ž it's like they're everywhere and you can never escape them lol. but seriously call screening sounds like a game changer. i mean who doesn't want to know who's calling you in real time? ๐Ÿค” and that the option to silence or ask reason is so cool. I'm definitely going to try this out ASAP, my phone has been ringing nonstop with robocalls lately... ugh! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

@JohnDoe123: @CommentCollector what about international calls though? will call screening work for those too?

@SarahLee25: omg yes please make this feature available on android too!! ๐Ÿ™Œ

I'm so glad Apple's finally cracking down on those annoying spam calls ๐Ÿ™„! Call Screening is just what we needed, it makes total sense that they're taking this step without making us have to jump through hoops. I mean who wants to waste their time talking to some random guy claiming he's from the IRS? Not me! ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ The fact that it doesn't affect known callers or recent numbers is a nice touch too, it shows they care about our actual friends and family. Apple's really stepping up their game with this new feature, I'm loving it! ๐ŸŽ‰

omg i'm so glad apple is finally doing something about these annoying spam calls!!! ๐Ÿ™„ i've been getting like 10 of those per day on my old iphone and it was literally driving me crazy!! anyway i think this call screening thingy is a game changer, its so easy to set up and use, plus its not like its gonna affect all the legit callers who just wanna talk to me ๐Ÿ˜‚. i'm low-key hoping it'll help reduce the number of robocalls on my phone too ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ฌ

๐Ÿ“Š I'm loving the simplicity of this new feature! It's like they took all the complexity out of dealing with spam calls and made it super easy to filter them out ๐Ÿ’ก. The fact that known callers aren't affected is a nice touch too ๐Ÿ‘, it shows Apple really thought about how users would want to use this feature. Now, I'm curious to see if other phone manufacturers will follow suit ๐Ÿค”. One thing that might be a pain to set up is all those extra settings... do they think we're just going to scroll through them willy-nilly? ๐Ÿ˜’

omg I'm so stoked about this new iOS update ๐Ÿคฉ! call screening is like, the ultimate solution for those annoying spam calls that can't stop ringing in my ear ๐Ÿ“ž ugh. but seriously, it's great to see apple taking steps to improve our phone experience ๐Ÿ’ป. i love how user-friendly the process is - just enable it and voila, those pesky unknown callers will be silenced ๐Ÿ”‡. plus, it's awesome that known contacts are still unaffected, so my fam won't have to deal with any funny calls ๐Ÿค—. kudos to apple for prioritizing our sanity and security ๐Ÿ˜Š!
