ICE agent fatally shoots woman during immigration operation in Minneapolis

A fatal ICE-related shooting has sparked outrage in Minneapolis as a woman, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an immigration operation. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in a residential neighborhood just blocks away from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020.

Good, a 37-year-old poet, writer, wife, and mother, died after being shot in the head at close range while driving her SUV across the middle of the road. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one bystander recording video on their phone before screaming obscenities at the agents involved.

According to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Good attempted to run over and ram ICE officers, prompting an agent to act in self-defense by shooting her. However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has disputed this account, calling it "garbage" and criticizing the deployment of more than 2,000 federal officers to the Twin Cities as part of a Trump administration crackdown on immigration.

The incident has drawn comparisons to similar ICE-related shootings in the Chicago area during Operation Midway Blitz. In September, Silverio Villegas González was shot and killed by an ICE agent after allegedly trying to flee from agents who stopped his car. Villegas González had no criminal history but was in the country without legal status.

Protesters gathered at the scene of Good's killing, with hundreds attending a vigil later that evening to demand justice for her death and urge people to resist immigration enforcers. "We're still asking for justice for Silverio," said Baltazar Enriquez, of the Little Village Community Council. "We will stand up to injustice... It could happen to any one of us."

The incident has highlighted concerns about police accountability and the use of force by federal agents in enforcing immigration laws. As the community mourns Good's loss, they are also calling for policy changes that prioritize public safety and human rights over enforcement priorities.

In response to the shooting, President Donald Trump made social media posts accusing Renee Nicole Macklin Good of trying to run down ICE officers.

😱 this is so heartbreaking i just can't even right now my heart goes out to Renee's family and loved ones she was a writer and poet and had so much life ahead of her 🌟 and the fact that she was killed by an ICE agent in her own neighborhood is just devastating... 2000+ federal officers deployed here? what is going on with our country?? 🤯 we need to come together as a community and demand change and justice for Renee and Silverio 🙏💪

🤕 this is so messed up! like what even is the point of having these agents just roaming around? its not like they're helping with community or anything... Renee was just a normal person doing her thing and next thing she knows she's being shot by some cop wannabe... 2000 officers deployed for this? 🚫 what about people who actually need help? and whats with trump tweeting that she tried to run them down? lol no way, dude! Baltazar Enriquez said it best "we will stand up to injustice... It could happen to any one of us" 👊 we gotta make some noise about this 💔

omg i cant even right now... 🤯 Renee wasnt even a bad person she was just a normal woman who got caught up in this super messed up situation. and the way they say she ran over the agents on purpose is so not true! 😡 my heart is still racing thinking about what happened to her. i feel like we need to take a step back and think about how our laws are affecting people's lives. and what really gets me is that trump is trying to spin this whole thing to make Renee look bad... 🙄 it just shows how out of touch he is with the reality of what's happening on the ground. i hope we can find a way to bring justice for Renee and all the other people who have gotten hurt by these agents. 💔

🤕 this is just heartbreaking another life lost in a system that's supposed to be about helping people get their lives together. 37 years old and already gone. what was she even doing wrong? trying to protect her family? i mean dont get me wrong ice has got its place but it seems like they're just picking on anyone who can't speak english or prove citizenship. and another thing whats with trump jumping all over this like the victim is somehow responsible for being shot. didnt he learn anything from george floyd?

😱 this is getting crazy...ICE agents think they can just start shooting people left and right? 🚫 2000 federal officers deployed to Minneapolis, that's like, a whole army...and now we got people in the community fearing for their lives because of it. The part that really gets me is how President Trump is trying to spin this - like Renee was some kind of threat to ICE agents, but she just got shot in the head while driving her car! 🚗💀 It's so messed up...and what about Silverio? He didn't even have a record or anything. This whole thing needs to be looked into and people need to be held accountable for their actions. 💯

I'm seeing some super disturbing vids of this incident in Minneapolis 🤯... So sad that a woman lost her life over what's supposed to be 'help' from ICE agents? It looks like she was just driving home after work and got caught up in the chaos... Homeland Sec Noem is saying Renee tried to ram them, but witnesses are disputing that - it's all so unclear 🙅‍♀️. And now this guy Silverio was killed in a similar situation last month... It's like they're getting away with murder? 💔 The fact that protesters are gathering for justice & safety is the least we can expect after such a tragedy 👊. We need better policing & more transparency, not just empty apologies from politicians 🤷‍♂️.
