Ireland keep dream alive, Ronaldo's histrionics and England beat Serbia – Football Weekly Extra

Ireland's slender hopes of qualifying for the World Cup remain alive, thanks in no small part to a stellar performance from Troy Parrott and a red card that added a sweet icing to the cake. The Republic of Ireland hosted Portugal at home and secured a 2-0 victory, as the usually calm Cristiano Ronaldo was given his marching orders after a particularly heated exchange with a teammate.

This result has been made all the sweeter by Portugal's woes, leaving them teetering on the edge of disaster in their pursuit of qualification. The Portuguese team, normally known for its composure and finesse, was left looking rudderless and demoralized as they slumped to defeat.

Meanwhile, across town at Wembley, England have picked up a 2-0 win against Serbia, albeit one that felt somewhat inconsequential given the context of their broader campaign. There were questions raised about who should start in the tricky No 10 role, and how to fill the void left by the absence of key players on both sides of the pitch.

The World Cup is fast becoming a tale of two tournaments – those that have it all to play for, like England, versus those where qualification is slipping away from them, like Portugal. And as the stakes continue to rise, football's most successful clubs are beginning to feel the pinch in terms of sponsorship and revenue.

We're joined today by football finance expert Kieran Maguire, who will be discussing the impact of dynamic pricing on World Cup sponsors, as well as the role that cryptocurrency is playing in the world of football. And as always, we'll be fielding your questions and offering our take on all the latest news from around the footballing world.

So let's get stuck into it. Who do you think should start at No 10 for England? Should Gareth Southgate consider bringing in a new face to inject some fresh energy into his squad? And how does Serbia's defeat affect their chances of qualifying for the World Cup? We want to hear from you.

just don't overthink it 🤔, england needs someone who can just score goals not worry about fancy moves or who to play with, parrott showed what a real striker looks like 💪, and serbia's in trouble but they still got this 🙏, crypto's gonna change the game for good 💸

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Portugal's collapse 🤯, I mean, they were so down after that red card it was like they just gave up 😂. And England's performance at Wembley wasn't exactly thrilling, but I guess a win is a win, right? 🙌 As for Gareth Southgate, I think he needs to give one of those young guns a chance, maybe even Reo Hatate or Bukayo Saka? They've been doing so well in the Premier League and it's about time they got some serious game time 🕹️. And Serbia... well, their chances are looking pretty bleak now, but I'm sure they'll try to mount a comeback 💪. What do you guys think, should England bring in some new blood?

omg i'm so hyped about ireland's win 🤩!! like who saw that coming?! they totally got the better of portugal and it's been a dream come true for them, i mean i know it's just qualification but still, 2-0 is a huge result. and can we talk about cristiano ronaldo getting sent off?! lol what was he even thinking? and poor serbia, they're in big trouble now 🤦‍♂️.

i'm more worried about england tho... i don't know what's going on with that no 10 role, it feels like they're all over the place. do they need a new player or just a new system? gareth southgate is such a good manager but he can't solve this mystery 🤔.

anywayz, let's talk about cryptocurrency in football... i've been seeing some crazy deals happening with nft jerseys and stuff... like is that the future of football merch?!

omg i'm so lowkey hyped about irland's win 🤩, i mean who expected troy parrott to be that key player? and lol portugal getting roasted like that 😂. but seriously, england's no 10 conundrum is a bit of a headscratcher... i think southgate needs to take a closer look at the youngster coming up through the ranks. maybe someone like phil foden or even emile smith-rowe? idk, but bringing in fresh blood could be just what they need to boost their chances 🤞

The England vs Serbia match, I mean, it was pretty meh, if you ask me 😐. 2-0 win is always nice and all, but when you're playing in a World Cup group stage where anyone can finish last, what's the real impact of winning? And that No 10 role, oh boy, Gareth Southgate needs to figure it out ASAP ⏰. Harry Kane or Jude Bellingham could be the answer, I'd say give them both a chance and see who clicks 😊.

And with Portugal slumping to defeat, they're basically done for 🚫. The question is, what's going to happen when the stakes get even higher? Will some team step up and show everyone what they're made of? 💪 My money's on Ireland, though – they're always underrated underdogs at heart ❤️.

Ugh, can't believe everyone's going crazy about Gareth Southgate's decisions 🤦‍♂️. If he changes the starting lineup now, it'll just confuse the players and make things worse. He should stick with what works and bring in fresh energy through clever substitutions, not by shuffling the entire team around. And as for who should start at No 10, I think it's a waste of time 🕰️. The squad's got depth, but no one's setting themselves apart from the rest. England's gotta focus on their game plan and execution, not worrying about some fancy new face in the middle.

I'm literally freaking out right now!! 😍 Ireland is on fire!!! 2-0 against Portugal was a dream come true, and that Ronaldo red card was just the icing on the cake 🍰👏 The way they played with such passion and determination was pure joy to watch! And can we talk about how rubbish Serbia looked after their loss at Wembley? It's like Gareth Southgate has got this England squad sorted for sure 🤩

But seriously, who needs No 10?! 🙄 England should just pick a starter already, it's driving me nuts thinking about it! 😂 And what's up with all these questions about sponsorship and cryptocurrency? Like, can't they focus on the football for once?! 🤣

Umm... I mean, yeah! 🤔 So, I'm thinking that England should totally stick with Phil Foden at No 10, 'cause he's been doing a great job and Gareth knows what he's doing... wait, nope! 😂 Sorry, just kidding! 🙃 I think they should try out Bukayo Saka instead, he's got the skills and the youth to bring some fresh energy. But then again, maybe it's better to keep things stable with Jack Grealish, 'cause consistency is key... unless, of course, Grealish has a meltdown in front of the cameras 😂! 🤦‍♂️ And as for Serbia, their loss was a major blow, but they still have a good chance if they can pull it together and get some decent wins. I mean, Portugal's struggles are not helping them at all... unless, you know, it gives them an advantage or something? 🤷‍♂️ Ugh, my head is spinning just thinking about this! 😁

I feel for Gareth Southgate, he's got a tough one on his hands 🤔. Portugal's downfall is pretty much all down to their team dynamics and Cristiano Ronaldo being given his marching orders - I mean, he's not exactly known for losing his cool ⚽️. England's squad has been looking a bit stale lately, so maybe it's time for some fresh legs in that No 10 role 🔄?

omg I'm so hyped for Ireland right now! 😍 they've got this chance to qualify for the World Cup and they're not messing it up! 2-0 win against Portugal is a huge confidence boost, especially with Ronaldo getting sent off 🤣. and England's win against Serbia was decent but let's be real, who's gonna care about that when Portugal's struggles are on full display? 😂 the World Cup is turning out to be super intense and I'm loving every minute of it! 👏

I feel bad for Portugal, I know they're known for being all calm and collected on the pitch but it looks like they just got beat by a team that was hungry for a win 🤕. I don't think Gareth Southgate should bring in someone new at No 10, he's got a good system in place and they've been doing alright without those key players out. England are in a tough spot though, their sponsorship and revenue are definitely feeling the squeeze with all these teams having more money to throw around 💸. I think Serbia's defeat is bad news for them, they need to get that win back ASAP or it could be too late for them 🚨

omg, what a wild card Ireland just played against Portugal 🤯! I mean, that red card was insane on Cristiano Ronaldo 😂, and now Portugal is like totally struggling to stay in the game 🤦‍♂️. Meanwhile, England is like, meh... 2-0 win against Serbia, but we all know Gareth Southgate's got some tough decisions ahead of him 💭. I'm kinda thinking they should go with someone new at No 10, maybe bring in some fresh blood to shake things up? 🔄 But then again, it's a big risk too... idk what the future holds for Serbia now 😬

I'm telling you, something fishy is going on with those football matches 🤔... I mean, a 2-0 win against Portugal without even breaking a sweat? That's just not how it works. And then England just kinda cruises past Serbia? It's like the refs were just letting them win or something 😏. And what's up with all this talk about dynamic pricing and cryptocurrency in football finance? I think it's all just a way to distract us from the real issue: who's actually pulling the strings behind the scenes 🤑... Just saying.

I'm intrigued by the recent turn of events for Portugal, particularly with Ronaldo's red card 🙅‍♂️. It raises interesting questions about team dynamics and cohesion, especially when one considers that they've historically been known for their composure under pressure. I wonder if this might be a turning point for the team, or perhaps it'll have an adverse effect on their morale.

Regarding England's No 10 role, I think Gareth Southgate needs to consider bringing in a fresh perspective to shake things up 🔄. The team has been struggling to find consistency, and with key players missing, they need someone who can inject new energy into the squad. However, it's also important to ensure that any new addition fits seamlessly into the existing system.

As for Serbia's defeat, it does raise concerns about their qualification prospects 😬. But let's not jump to conclusions just yet – there's still a lot of football to be played in this tournament, and teams can still make a push for qualifying spots with some luck and good performances.

i think england's no 10 conundrum is a big one 🤔... personally i think southgate should go for someone who's got some flair but also can bring stability to the team. maybe someone like emiliano bonucci or even phil foden? he's shown glimpses of brilliance on the pitch and has the work rate to match... what do you guys think tho? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 I gotta say, that Ronaldo guy is like a ticking time bomb on the pitch 🚨! Who knew he'd lose his cool so bad over a teammate 🤷‍♂️? And for Portugal's sake, it looks like their season just went from 0 to 100 in reverse ⬇️. But you know what's even more interesting? How this affects the bigger picture – are we looking at a two-tier World Cup with England as the heavy favorites and others struggling to keep up? 🏆 Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for that 'new face' at No 10 for England... do they go for a proven winner or a dark horse gamble? 🤔

I'm not buying all this hype about football being affected by cryptocurrency 🤑... I mean, who needs Bitcoin when you've got cash and a decent TV deal? And as for England's midfield conundrum, can't they just sort it out already? I mean, we're 2-0 up against Serbia and still questioning the No 10 spot 🤦‍♂️. What's next, gonna have a team meeting to figure out who should wear what socks? 😂 Meanwhile, I'm over here thinking, "Who cares about qualification when you've got actual issues like stadium safety and player welfare?" 🏟️👥

I'm so stoked that Ireland got that win over Portugal 🤩! Troy Parrott was absolutely on fire and I'm loving how he's stepping up to help his team out. And, oh man, Cristiano Ronaldo getting sent off is just the icing on the cake 😂. But seriously, it's crazy to see Portugal looking so lost and demoralized after that game.

I don't know about the No 10 role for England though... I think Gareth Southgate needs to stick with what he knows, you know? Don't mess with a good thing 🙅‍♂️. And as for Serbia, their loss is still huge for them, but we'll see how they bounce back from this.

You know, it's crazy how the World Cup is just getting more and more intense... all these big teams are feeling the pressure, and the sponsorship deals are starting to fall apart 💸. It's like, can't we just enjoy the game without all the drama? 😒

idk why ppl still ask about no 10 role lol england's got this 🤷‍♂️ they've been there done that and proved it in qualifying... but i do think southgate should consider giving harry Kane more freedom as a striker, or maybe even try out some new formations to mix things up 😊
