Iron Lung review – YouTuber Markiplier crash lands with big-screen sci-fi horror

Markiplier's Latest Venture: A Crash Landing on the Big Screen

YouTube sensation Markiplier has attempted to make the transition from gaming to filmmaking, with his latest project, Iron Lung, a sci-fi horror movie that promises much but ultimately crashes and burns.

The film, which was made independently without the usual promotional fanfare, has been eagerly anticipated by fans of its writer-director-star, Mark Fischbach. However, upon release, it quickly became apparent that this is not the thrilling adventure one might expect from a Hollywood-backed blockbuster. Instead, Iron Lung feels like a rough-around-the-edges short film stretched out to feature length, with all the bells and whistles missing.

Markiplier's attempt at creating something new in the horror genre falls flat due to its reliance on an underutilized concept – the astronaut who strays beyond his depth. This narrative device has been done before, and Fischbach's execution is as rusty as it is predictable. The film's visuals are similarly uninspired, with Simon's cramped and squalid spacecraft feeling more like a typical teenager's bedroom than a state-of-the-art spaceship.

The pacing is plodding, the tone is depressing, and there's a general sense of listlessness that makes Iron Lung feel like a chore to sit through. Even Markiplier's usually reliable presence can't elevate the material, as he struggles to make an impact with a performance that's more akin to a low-budget YouTube video than a big-screen blockbuster.

While it's admirable that Fischbach has managed to produce something on his own, without the usual studio backing or marketing muscle, Iron Lung ultimately feels like a missed opportunity. With more money and resources behind him, Fischbach might have been able to elevate this material into something watchable. As it stands, however, Markiplier's latest venture is best left to the fans of his YouTube content, who may appreciate its rough-around-the-edges charm but will likely find it less than satisfying as a film.

🤔 just watched iron lung and i gotta say its a bit of a disappointment 🎥 i think markiplier was better off stickin to what hes good at - gaming vids 👾 instead of tryin to make it big in hollywood 🌟 dont get me wrong, im all for indie films and the whole thing, but sometimes less is more 💸

idk what's up with markiplier trying to make movies 🤔... i mean i love him on youtube, but this iron lung thing is just so underwhelming 🚮. the premise sounds cool and all, but honestly it feels like they took every bad sci-fi horror movie from the past 20 years and mashed them all together into one mess 😩. markiplier's trying his best, but even he can't save this thing from its cringeworthy pacing and boring visuals 🎥. if he wants to make something good, i'd rather see him stick to gaming content lol 😂

I'm really disappointed in Iron Lung 🤕. I've been a huge fan of Markiplier on YouTube and thought he had the potential to bring something new and exciting to the big screen. Unfortunately, this movie feels like a rush job 🚫. The concept is interesting, but it's not executed well at all. I mean, an astronaut stuck in space? It's been done before and Fischbach just didn't put enough thought into making it feel fresh again.

And don't even get me started on the visuals 🤦‍♀️. The spaceship looks like something you'd find in a bad sci-fi movie from the 80s. I was expecting so much more, especially considering how much hype there was around this film. The pacing is slow and the tone is just so depressing 😔.

I think Markiplier's effort would have been better off staying on YouTube 📹. At least then he could've connected with his audience in a more personal way without all the bells and whistles of a big-budget film. As it stands, Iron Lung feels like a chore to sit through 🍿. Maybe with some more development time and resources, Fischbach could've made something special, but as it is... yeah 🤷‍♂️

OMG 🤯 I was so hyped for Iron Lung!!! But honestly, it's like they took all the excitement and fun from Markiplier's gaming vids and just... not did anything with it 🤦‍♂️ The movie is literally just a short film stretched out to feature length 📺. And don't even get me started on the pacing 😴 it's so slow! I mean, I love Markiplier too, but he can't save this movie from itself 🙄 It's like they wanted to make a cool sci-fi horror flick and just... didn't 💔. I'm still gonna watch it for Markiplier's sake tho 🤗, but if you're expecting something lit, you might wanna look elsewhere 🔥

omg u guys i just saw iron lung and lets just say its a skit from a high school film class that got left on the editing room floor 😂 markiplier tried but honestly its a shame cuz he deserves better 👎 the pacing is so slow ur gonna wanna check ur watch like 3 times 🕰️ and the special effects are straight outta a bad fan vid 🤣 cant help but feel like it couldve been somethin if they just had more resources behind it 💸

I mean... what a letdown, right? 😔 I was hyped for Iron Lung, but it just didn't deliver. I loved Markiplier's YouTube content, but this movie felt like a low-budget version of that, you know? The concept is cool and all, but the execution just wasn't there. And poor Simon's spaceship... 🚀🤦‍♂️ I got so bored with the pacing, it was like watching paint dry. Markiplier's presence was definitely missed though, he usually brings the energy, but even he couldn't save this one from being a snooze fest 😴. Maybe next time, Mark Fischbach? 🤞
