Now You See Me: Now You Don't review – light-as-a-feather magic threequel

Soderbergh's 'Ocean's Eleven' Revisited in Slick but Shallow 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't'

Director Steven Soderbergh's 2001 heist classic 'Ocean's Eleven' cleverly captured the essence of Las Vegas as a playground for high-stakes magic and deception. Fast-forward to 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't', the third installment in the magician thief series, which attempts to reimagine the neon-lit cityscape but ultimately falls short.

The Four Horsemen, a group of skilled illusionists led by Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), reunite for one final heist after receiving a message from their secret society, The Eye. Their target: Veronika Vanderberg, an arms dealer with a penchant for lavish wealth. As they assemble the team, it's clear that director Ruben Fleischer is more concerned with slick visual effects and high-energy action than genuine storytelling.

The film prioritizes style over substance, resulting in a meandering plot that struggles to balance its numerous plot threads. The camaraderie between the Horsemen remains endearing, but even Eisenberg's signature prickliness can't elevate this narrative misfire. Meanwhile, Rosamund Pike brings star power to the supporting cast, but her presence is underutilized.

The real challenge lies in navigating the thin line between 'Now You See Me' magic and the Fast & Furious/Mission: Impossible franchise. While the series has consistently delivered a lighthearted, crowd-pleasing experience, Fleischer's vision feels shallow compared to Soderbergh's masterclass direction. As a result, this installment often feels like a glorified television special rather than a cinematic event.

Despite some genuine chemistry between Eisenberg and his co-stars, the film stumbles in its attempts at character development, particularly when it comes to the younger members of The Eye. The movie also glosses over important themes, instead opting for shallow conflicts that fail to resonate.

The result is 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't', a glossy but forgettable heist flick that's more concerned with spectacle than substance. With a talented cast and some genuinely impressive magic sequences, it's only the film's lackluster direction that prevents this entry from truly shining. As the curtain falls on The Eye's latest mission, audiences will be left wondering what could have been if the filmmakers had taken a riskier approach to their story.

man i just watched now you see me: now you dont and honestly it felt like they took all the magic and action from the first two movies and put it into one big ol' spectacle 🤯 but forgot to add any real depth or substance to the story. the new cast is cool and rosamund pike is fire 🔥 but she's just wasted on a character that's basically just there to be pretty. i think steven sodderbergh's direction in ocean's eleven was what made the first two movies so special - he knew exactly how to balance magic and action with some real heart and soul. this movie tries too hard to be all flashy and forgets to make us care about what's going on 🤷‍♂️

I gotta say, I'm really disappointed in 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' 🤔. It feels like they just phoned it in compared to 'Ocean's Eleven', which was a total game-changer back in 2001. The magic sequences were pretty sick, but honestly, that wasn't enough to carry the film. The plot was all over the place and it felt like they didn't really explore any of the characters beyond just Jesse Eisenberg's character. It's like they knew if you liked 'Now You See Me', you'd watch this too, so why bother putting in the effort? 😐

This movie is like a fancy party with no substance 🎉😴 - everyone's dressed up and having fun, but when you look closer, it's all just empty space 🤔. I mean, Soderbergh's 'Ocean's Eleven' was the real deal, a masterclass in magic and deception on screen 🎩. But now, with this 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't', it feels like they're just phoning it in 😴. The plot's all over the place, the action scenes are cool but not enough to save the movie, and Rosamund Pike is just wasted in a underwritten role 🤦‍♀️. I'm still hoping for a better 'Now You See Me' 4 tho 💥

idk why they bother revisting old franchises like dis... feels like just another fast-paced heist flick with no depth 😐. soderbergh was spot on wit 'ocean's eleven', but fleischer can't even come close 🤷‍♂️. magic shows r cool, but if u wanna make a cinematic event, gotta put in the effort 🎥

I feel like 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' is missing that spark that made the first two installments so memorable 🤔. It's like they're trying to pack too many tricks into one movie, and it ends up feeling like a magic show for adults who have lost touch with what makes it tick 😐. I'm all about the visuals, but if you don't give me something to think about on a deeper level, I'll be checking my watch in no time ⏰. Maybe they should've taken a cue from Soderbergh's 'Ocean's Eleven' and focused more on the characters and their relationships? The magic is cool and all, but when it's not backed by solid storytelling, it just feels like a bunch of flashy fireworks that burn out quickly 🎉💥.

this movie is so disappointing 🤕 i mean, who thought it was a good idea to just copy and paste soderbergh's magic from 'ocean's eleven' instead of coming up with something new? 😴 and don't even get me started on the plot... it's like they took every other heist movie cliche and mashed them all together into one big mess 🚮

🤔 I'm so over the whole 'Ocean's Eleven' franchise being rebooted and remixed every 5 years... like, can't we just leave Soderbergh's masterpiece alone? 🙄 The new 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' is just a shallow cash-grab with pretty lights and fancy tricks. I mean, where's the depth? Where's the substance? It's all just a bunch of flashy nonsense. 😒 And don't even get me started on Eisenberg's character - prickly? please, it's just a caricature of himself. The real star of the show is Rosamund Pike, but even she can't carry this sinking ship. 💔

This third installment in the magician thief series is so disappointing 🤕 it feels like they're just phoning it in instead of really trying to make something special happen. The magic effects are cool, I'll give them that ✨ but it's not enough to save this film from its convoluted plot and shallow characters. And can we talk about how the cast is wasted with some of these characters getting barely any development? It's like they're just going through the motions instead of bringing anything meaningful to the table 😐

idk why they cant just follow up the orginal 'Ocean's Eleven' with somethin new lol. this whole magician thief thing is so done 🤣. steven sodrbergh was the man, and now its like theyre tryna recapture lightning in a bottle but end up with somethin thatz only good for a quick flick at the cinema 🍿. i mean, jesse eisenberg is alright but even he cant save this mess from bein too focused on visual effects 😴. Rosamund Pike shudnt hav been wasted like that tho 👀

I gotta say, I'm super disappointed with 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' 🤔💔. It feels like they took all the magic and charm from Soderbergh's 'Ocean's Eleven' and replaced it with a bunch of flashy special effects 🔥🎩. The plot is all over the place, like they're trying to juggle too many balls at once 🤹‍♂️. I mean, what happened to the character development? 😔 Rosamund Pike was definitely robbed of some screen time 👀. And don't even get me started on how shallow the themes are... it's like they just phoned this one in 📲. Overall, it's a total bummer that it didn't live up to my expectations #DisappointingHeistFlick #MagicIsntEnough #SoderberghForever

omg u guys i just watched 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' and i'm still trying to process how they messed it up so bad 🤯 the plot is literally all over the place and the magic stuff is cool but not enough to save the movie 🎩 i love jesse eisenberg though he's always so good at playing edgy characters 👀 and rosamund pike is just a total babe 💁‍♀️ but ugh why did they waste her talent like that?! 🤔 i was expecting way more from this one, especially considering it's the 3rd installment in the series 😐

🤔 just watched 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' and i gotta say, it's like they took all the magic from the first two films and replaced it with a bunch of flashy cuts and loud music 🎥💥 but honestly, who needs substance when you've got slick visuals? 😏 the cast is talented, don't get me wrong, but they're stuck with a storyline that's more confusing than clever 🤯 i mean, what's the point of it all? just another shallow heist flick trying to fill a gap in the franchise 👎

Ugh, I just saw this movie and it was so underwhelming 🤕. I mean, I loved the original 'Ocean's Eleven' back in 2001 - Soderbergh's direction was just so slick and clever. But this new one? It's like they took all the style and none of the substance from the previous films and mashed them together into a mess 🎉. The Four Horsemen are just not as intriguing as I thought they'd be, and Eisenberg's character feels so... basic 😐. And don't even get me started on how underutilized Rosamund Pike is - she's got talent pouring out of every pore, but she's stuck playing second fiddle to everyone else 🙄. It's like the filmmakers knew they had a great cast, but instead of using it to tell a compelling story, they just went for flashy visuals and shallow conflicts 🤦‍♂️. What really bothers me is that I was expecting so much more from this series - it felt like they were just phoning it in with a TV special vibe 😒.

Ugh, I'm so done with this movie! 🤯 It's like they took all the magic and charm of the first two installments and replaced it with some fancy CGI and a bunch of bland action sequences. 😒 The whole thing feels like a mess, with too many plot twists and not enough actual substance to back them up. And don't even get me started on the characters - they're just so underdeveloped! 🤷‍♀️ I mean, what's the point of Daniel Atlas if he's just going to be some generic "prickly" guy? 😒 Give me a break! The only thing that really worked for me was Rosamund Pike's performance - she's always been talented and she deserved better material than this. 🙄 Overall, I'd say 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' is just another shallow heist flick that's more concerned with looking cool than actually being good. 👎

ugh i just walked out of that movie and felt like i wasted 2 hours of my life 🤯 the magic stuff was cool i'll give them that but it felt so fake compared to 'ocean's eleven' which actually had depth and a point to the heist 🤑 now you see me 3 is just a shallow, style-over-substance kinda movie that didnt even bother to develop its characters properly 🙄 rosamund pike deserved better from this film

This new movie is soooo not living up to expectations 🤕👎 Soderbergh's 'Ocean's Eleven' was all about finesse and cleverness, but 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' just feels like a flashy cash-grab 💸🔮 Ruben Fleischer needs to focus on the storytelling instead of trying to wow us with his visual effects. I mean, who cares about a bunch of random plot twists when the characters are all so thinly developed? 🤷‍♀️ The chemistry between Eisenberg and co-stars is there, but it's not enough to save this movie from its shallow direction 📺💔

I mean come on, another one saying 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' is just a shallow heist flick 🙄. I think the film actually nailed the style and energy, it's not like Soderbergh was setting a high bar for himself. Ruben Fleischer did an amazing job of balancing magic and action, it's just that some people are too picky about storytelling 🤷‍♂️. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good Fast & Furious/Mission: Impossible franchise comparison? It's not like the series is trying to be taken seriously or anything 😎. I think Eisenberg and his co-stars were fantastic, they deserved better than a bland script though 📝.

🤔 i gotta say, i was really looking forward to this one... the magician thief series has always been so much fun 🎩👊 but 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' feels like just another fast-paced heist flick without much depth or substance 🌆. don't get me wrong, jesse eisenberg and rosamund pike are as great as ever 😎 but the plot is all over the place and it's hard to invest in anything when there isn't a lot of complexity 🤯. what i think would've made this movie really shine is if they had taken some more risks with the storytelling and given us something more than just flashy magic tricks 🔮💥

I gotta say, I'm really disappointed in 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't'. It feels like they took all the magic and charm of the original films and replaced it with some fancy special effects 🤡. The plot's all over the place, like a magician who can't quite keep his tricks straight 😂. And don't even get me started on how much more soul Steven Soderbergh brought to 'Ocean's Eleven' back in 2001. I mean, Ruben Fleischer just couldn't top that 💔.

I know some people might be all about the high-energy action and slick visuals, but for this nostalgic guy, it's gotta be substance over style. And let me tell you, this film falls way short 🤦‍♂️. Rosamund Pike is amazing as always, but even she can't save this mess from itself 😔.

I guess what really gets me is how much potential this series had – and then they just kinda...phoned it in 💸. I mean, where's the heart? Where's the storytelling that makes you care about the characters? It's all just a bunch of flashy tricks and shallow conflicts 🎩.

Anyway, yeah, 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' is a total snooze-fest 😴. If they want to revive The Eye series, they gotta take some real risks and try something new 🔥
