Premier League: 10 talking points from the weekend's action

There are several storylines to follow in the Premier League this weekend.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has been struggling to find his team's identity since taking over, but he may have found a solution. The Spanish coach has brought in French defender Emiliano Martinez and is considering signing Brazilian forward Lucas Paqueta to bolster his squad.

Bournemouth are underachieving this season, scoring 26 goals from 17 games with only five blanks. They have been spreading their scoring across the 12 matches they have won, but also drawing blanks on six of those occasions. The team's defensive resolve has been crucial in earning them points because they will have days where they fail to score.

Brighton are going through a "phase" of not being able to score goals that has meant they have only picked up two points from their last four matches. The continued absence of Danny Welbeck due to a persistent back injury has certainly not helped, but Georginio Rutter has struggled since being pressed into a more advanced role, having scored only once so far this season.

Burnley's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth was particularly frustrating for the Cherries because they wasted chances that Evanilson and David Brooks failed to convert. The team needs to improve their defensive resolve in order to earn points from games like these.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has been focusing on his team's defensive solidity since returning to the dugout, but they still struggled to find a goal against Sunderland. Oliver Glasner's side had the majority of possession and 17 attempts on target, yet were unable to break down the visitors' backline.

Everton are struggling to get out of their rut after five consecutive defeats without scoring a single goal. The Toffees have been giving away too many chances to their opponents, who then capitalize on them with clinical finishes like against Chelsea last week.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is still searching for his team's attacking rhythm despite having 25 points from nine wins and three draws in the league. Leeds can do better than Burnley when they beat West Ham 3-0 earlier this season, but a return to that form may take time.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will be looking forward to getting back into his stride at St James' Park after facing Arsenal last week. The Magpies have not been able to create chances in recent games, and it is imperative that they improve their attacking potency.

Nottm Forest are still searching for a positive result from three consecutive away games without a win. They will need to be more clinical when scoring goals if they want to avoid defeats like the one they suffered at home against West Ham last week.

Sunderland's return to the Championship has been less than expected, with 27 points from nine wins and eight draws in their first season back up. The Black Cats have struggled to find consistency as a team and need to develop an attacking strategy that works for them.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is facing a challenge on both ends of the pitch after losing 1-0 to Leicester City last week. Spurs have been conceding more than 2 goals per game in their last five matches, which is alarming for their fans and team staff.

West Ham United are still struggling with injuries and suspensions ahead of their match against Chelsea. They were lucky to come away from the Emirates Stadium with a draw after being out-classed by the Gunners earlier this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league so far this season, failing to score 28 goals from 17 games despite having 2 points from their last five matches. They need to find an attacking identity that works for them if they are going to avoid relegation.

I'm worried about Aston Villa, mate 😒. Emery's trying to sign Paqueta and Martinez is back in the squad, but I'm not convinced it'll make a difference. They've been struggling to find their identity since taking over, and if they don't sort out their defensive issues, we might see another relegation battle.

And Brighton are going through a goal-scoring drought, which is super frustrating for fans 🤯. They need Welbeck back ASAP, or Georginio's struggles will continue to rack up the losses. It's like they're stuck in a rut and can't find their way out of it yet.

I'm also low-key worried about Tottenham, bruv 🔥. Conte's having a tough time, conceding goals left and right, and it's only gonna get worse if they don't sort themselves out. 2+ goals per game is alarming – what's going on?! 😳

omg u guys can't wait to see what happens with Aston Villa and Lucas Paqueta's transfer 🤩 i think it could be a game changer for the team! Emery needs to get his squad sorted ASAP or they'll keep struggling 😬 bournemouth's scoring consistency is so important, if they can find that balance between scoring & defending, they might just make a push for europe ⚽️ meanwhile, Everton's defense is literally broken 💥 they need to sort out their backline ASAP or it's gonna be another long season for them 🤦‍♂️

omg i cant believe how many strugglin teams there r in the premier league rn 🤯 bournemouth, brighton and nottm forest are all doin somethin rong defensively its like they cant even defend 4 simple goals 😂 burnley's lack of defensive solidty is really frustratin them against other good teams too leeds united should be abletta beat west ham 3-0 anytime lol wolverhampton wanderers need a total rebranding if they wanna stay up 🤦‍♂️

the premier league is getting more and more interesting with all these different storylines 🤔. i'm loving the transfer moves by aston villa, bringing in emiliano martinez to boost their squad 💪. and bournemouth's defense is really stepping up right now 🙌. but what's going on at brighton? they're just not scoring goals right now 😓. and burnley's defensive issues are really frustrating ⚽️.

it feels like every team has a problem somewhere, whether it's scoring or defending 🤷‍♂️. everton is just struggling to get out of this rut 🔁. and wolverhampton wanderers need to find an attacking identity stat ⏱️. but you know what's even more interesting? the relegation battles are heating up 🔥. will any team manage to avoid the drop this season? only time will tell 🤞

I don’t usually comment but I feel like a lot of teams are still trying to figure out who they are, you know? Like Aston Villa is trying to add some new pieces to the puzzle and Bournemouth has this whole scoring thing that’s just not working out 🤔. And it's weird because Leeds United had a good run earlier in the season but then...I don’t know, they just kinda stopped 🔥.

🤔 Aston Villa's new signings might be just what the doctor ordered for Emery, but I'm not sure how quickly they'll gel with the rest of the squad. 📈 Bournemouth's inconsistency is really puzzling - either you're scoring 5 goals in a game or 0, there's no in-between 🤯. And Brighton's struggles without Welbeck are definitely concerning... it's like they're missing a vital piece of their jigsaw puzzle 🧩.

omg u guys i cant even believe wat's happenin in the premier league rn Aston villa finally gettin it together wiv Emery at the helm & bournemouth r doin ok i guess they just need 2 find a way 2 score goals lol bournemouth score 26 goals from 17 games thats like 1.47 goals per game that's actually pretty good! 🤯

omg u guys i cant even believe how bad wolverhampton wanderers r doing this season 🤯 they havnt scored a single goal in like 5 matches and its getting ridiculous 😂 anyway i think burnley's draw with bournemouth was super frustrating for the cherries cuz evanilson and david brooks had some legit chances but just missed out ⚽️ and i think palace's struggle to find goals is due to roy hodgson's cautious approach 🤔 does anyone else think he's being too defensive? 😅

im thinking bournemouth is gonna surprise some ppl this weekend 🤔. they've been getting a ton of draws and its not just about scoring goals, defences r key too, like burnley's experience last game 🙄. bournemouth seem solid atm and id love 2 see them get more wins than draws. anyone got a feel on the derby between southampton & napoli??
