Record highs to be challenged next week ahead of Pacific storm system

Houston Residents Bracing for Record Warmth Ahead of Stormy Weather

A powerful Pacific storm system is expected to bring record highs to Southeast Texas in the next week, just ahead of a chance for stormy weather. Temperatures are already warm, with overnight lows dipping down towards 60 degrees and sunshine warming highs into the low-to-mid 80s.

While it may feel warm now, residents can expect even warmer temperatures in the days leading up to the storm system's arrival. Dew on the ground at sunrise is a possibility, particularly in rural areas, but patchy fog could also develop. The good news is that the Gulf breeze will be cranking in more moisture, which increases the chances of rain.

However, it's not until Thursday when thunderstorms are expected to roll in, with severe weather possible due to the warm and humid air. Before then, streamer showers from the Gulf will make their way into the area, bringing a 20% chance of rain. With that sticky Gulf air pushing temperatures into record-warm territory, residents can expect both low and high temperatures to soar.

For now, tropical development in the Atlantic Basin is not expected over the next seven days. Instead, those looking for updates on the tropics should head to ABC13's tropical update page.

With severe weather possible and a 10% chance of rain on Sunday, Houston residents are advised to stay tuned to local news and weather reports for the latest forecast.

omg, I'm so over this heatwave 🙄! like, i get it, storms are coming, but can't we just have a normal temp for once? 💔 and btw, who thought 60 degrees at night was a good idea for "normal" temps? 😴 dew on the ground in rural areas is no joke, btw... anyone with pets needs to be extra careful out there 🐾💦

I'm gettin' a little anxious about this stormy weather comin' our way... I mean, I know we've had some crazy heat waves before, but 80s in April? That's just plain weird 🤯! And now you're tellin' me it's gonna get even warmer before the storms roll in? That dew on the ground at sunrise thing is makin' me a little nervous 😬. I'm all for stayin' sunny and beautiful, but not when there's a chance of thunderstorms and whatnot. I hope everyone's prepared with their storm prep lists ready to go 📝...

I'm getting so anxious about this stormy weather coming our way 🤯! I've got my kiddo's school schedule marked in case they need to be picked up early or kept home... meanwhile, we're bracing ourselves for heat ⚠️. Can't believe it's gonna get that warm and humid before the rain hits 🌪️. Hope everyone stays safe and prepared 💕!

OMG u guys its gonna be a wild week in houston!!! like i know its already warm but these record highs r goin 2 take it 2 another level especially with that gulf breeze bringin in all dat moisture lol I'm lowkey hyped 4 the rain tho, who needs sunny days when u can have torrential downpours, amirite? btw dont forget ur sunscreen & stay hydrated, we dont wanna see anyone gettin heatstruck or dehydrated out here

omg u guys!! 🤩 record warmth is comin!!! i know it feels hot now but like, get ready for even hotter temps leading up to the storm system lol! dewy mornings & patchy fog are def possible tho 😅 but yay for that cool gulf breeze bringin in moisture 🌊 can't wait for those streamer showers & rain chances!! 💧 just stay safe & weather alert everyone 📺

Ugh, can't believe we're having this crazy warm spell before the stormy weather hits 🤕💦. I mean, I know it's just a precursor to some serious rain and thunderstorms, but my plants are going to freak out from all the sunshine! Anyone else having trouble getting their plants to chill out? 😂 And btw, 20% chance of rain is basically nothing 🙄. We need more than that around here! 💧

😩 Stormy weather might bring some relief from this crazy heatwave... think again! It's not like we're outta the woods yet... Pacific storm system is gonna hit us with record highs before that, & temps are already climbing towards 80s 🤯. Dew on the ground by sunrise? Patchy fog too? That sounds like a recipe for disaster 😬. Then comes the good news: maybe some rain? But nope, we're still stuck w/ 20% chance of showers & all that humid air just gonna push temps into record-warm territory... ugh! 🌡️

Umm I dont get why theres no warning about heat exhaustion in this article 🤷‍♂️ Storms might bring rain but also super high temps so like what's the plan for people who cant even handle that? Shouldn't they be advising people to stay indoors and hydrate more than just "stay tuned"?

omg can't believe we're gonna hit like 90+ degrees in houston next week 🤯 and then BAM stormy weather hits lol I'm so over this weird temperature rollercoaster already 😂 at least we get that sweet gulf breeze to cool us down tho 💨 gotta stay hydrated and prepared for all the thunderstorms coming our way ⛈️

Ugh this is crazy! One day we're sipping coffee outside, enjoying that mild Texas spring feel, and the next we're dealing with record warmth and potential thunderstorms 🤯. I mean, can't we just get some decent weather around here? At least the Gulf breeze will bring some moisture, so maybe we'll actually see some rain instead of just more heat ☁️. And Thursday's looking pretty wild, severe weather possible... that's a big ask for our city. Just hope everyone stays safe and prepared 🤞
