Review: Bruce Springsteen, Tom Morello and friends rock First Ave for anti-ICE benefit

A packed First Avenue in Minneapolis erupted with energy as a star-studded lineup of musicians took the stage for an anti-ICE benefit concert. The sold-out show, announced just 48 hours prior, was a last-minute call to action to defend Minnesota families affected by the recent ICE shootings that killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

The setlist kicked off with Ike Reilly Assassination frontman Ike Reilly, who delivered a heartfelt acoustic performance that showcased his son Shane's impressive harmonies. The opening act seamlessly transitioned into Rise Against, whose two-man band brought a much-needed dose of punk-rock enthusiasm to the show. However, it was Tom Morello who truly stole the spotlight.

Morello brought his signature rage and politics to the stage, referencing Prince's legacy at First Avenue as a catalyst for revolution. His setlist featured a mix of Rage Against the Machine classics, solo material that echoes the band's iconic sound, and songs from his folk project The Nightwatchman. The show was filled with energy, and Morello's performance served as a call to action against ICE.

The pièce de résistance came when Bruce Springsteen took the stage, delivering the live debut of his protest song "Streets of Minneapolis." Despite initial fatigue, Springsteen was fully energized by the time Morello joined him for a high-octane rendition of "The Ghost of Tom Joad." The show concluded with an epic cover of John Lennon's "Power to the People," as all performers came together in defiance of ICE.

Morello and Springsteen's performance was the highlight of the event, but it was clear that this concert went far beyond a musical performance. As Springsteen declared during his set, "F— ICE" became an anthem for the crowd, who were united in their resistance against the federal immigration crackdown in the Twin Cities.

I love how Rise Against brought that punk-rock vibe too 🤘, it was like a shot of adrenaline for the crowd! 😆 What's even more inspiring is seeing how the community came together in support of those affected by ICE 👫. It just goes to show we're all in this together ❤️.

Just saw the pics from that epic First Avenue show 🤩! It was amazing to see all those talented musicians come together to make a statement about #ICE and its impact on families in Minnesota 😔. I mean, Tom Morello is a total legend on stage, his setlist was so powerful and inspiring 💪. And Bruce Springsteen's performance with "Streets of Minneapolis" was mind-blowing 🎸! But what really got me was the whole crowd vibe - it was like we were all united against #ICE in that moment 🌟. OMG 🤩 I'm still buzzing from last night's show!!! The energy at First Avenue was ELECTRIC 💥 and it was so inspiring to see a packed room of music lovers come together for such an amazing cause 🙌! Tom Morello totally brought the house down with his set, but Bruce Springsteen's live debut of "Streets of Minneapolis" was PURE MAGIC ✨! I loved how all the performers came together at the end for that epic cover of "Power to the People" - it really felt like a call to action against ICE 🌎💪. Can't wait to see what other shows are lined up next!

I'm low-key impressed by how quickly they organized this thing, but let's be real, it's not like they didn't have a massive platform to leverage 🤯. I mean, think about it - we're talking about one of the biggest music venues in the country, packed with fans who are already primed for an intense experience. It's like they just tapped into this collective energy and let it carry them through 💥. And yeah, Morello was on point as always, but Springsteen's performance was more than just a highlight - it was a full-on call to arms 🔊. I think what really got me, though, was how they framed the whole thing as a community-driven effort 🤝. It wasn't just about the music (although, let's be real, that was pretty great too 😉).

🤘 The energy at that concert was ELECTRIC! 🌟 It's amazing how music can bring people together like that, especially when it's for a cause as important as fighting against ICE. I loved how Tom Morello brought his signature rage and politics to the stage - he's always been a powerful voice against injustice 💪. And Bruce Springsteen's performance was just incredible, it was like he was channeling the spirit of Prince himself 🕺. The fact that Renee and Alex's families were able to be in the audience and know that their loved ones' deaths are still sparking change is just heartbreaking 😔. But also incredibly hopeful 🌈. It's moments like these that remind us of the power of music and community to drive real change 🔥.

🎸💥 I'm still buzzing from last night's show at First Avenue! The energy was ELECTRIC and it felt like we're witnessing something bigger than just a concert 🤩. Tom Morello totally killed it on stage, his passion and rage are infectious... I've got sources saying Bruce Springsteen might be more involved in this movement than people think 🤑. It's clear the show wasn't just about music but about making a statement against ICE. And let's be real, that final cover of John Lennon's "Power to the People" was pure MAGIC ✨. We need more of this kind of unity and resistance - my sources are already talking about next steps...

This anti-ICE benefit concert at First Avenue was LIT 🔥🎸! I mean, who wouldn't wanna see Tom Morello bring the noise and call out ICE? And Bruce Springsteen showing up with his protest song "Streets of Minneapolis"? That's like the ultimate mic drop moment 🙌. But for real though, it's crazy how one concert can unite so many people against an issue that's affecting Minnesota families. It just goes to show you that music can be a powerful force for change 🎶💪. And let's not forget Ike Reilly Assassination and Rise Against - they brought the energy too! All in all, it was an epic night that'll be remembered for ages 😎.

that concert was lit 🤩, no doubt Morello's energy brought that whole room to a fever pitch! but I gotta say, I'm not sure about Springsteen's involvement...some folks might see it as a bit tone-deaf given his past stances on immigration? still, the message and energy were definitely there 💖. I do wish they'd promoted this event more in advance tho 🙄, 48 hours is super tight for a sold-out show like that!

This benefit concert at First Avenue was seriously epic 🤩! I mean, Tom Morello bringing that fire to the stage, and then Bruce Springsteen showing up and killing it with his new song? It's clear the crowd was hyped from the start 💥. And you're right, it wasn't just about the music - it was a call to action against ICE 🙌. I love how the whole show came together like that, with all these legendary performers coming out in support of Minnesota families. The energy at First Avenue was palpable 💪!

I'm still reeling from that epic First Avenue show 🤩! You know what's crazy? It feels like just yesterday I was watching music vids on MTV when Tom Morello was all about Rage Against the Machine back in the day 🎸🔥 And now, here we are with him bringing that same energy and message to a whole new generation. The way he got the crowd going with Prince's legacy was pure magic ✨. But what really got me was Bruce Springsteen, man... I'm still on cloud nine thinking about that live debut of "Streets of Minneapolis" 🎶. It's like he took all those years of social commentary and activism and distilled it into this one performance. And the whole show being an anti-ICE benefit? Unbelievable 💖. It just goes to show how power music can be in bringing people together for a cause 💪.

This was insane! I mean, a sold-out show in 48 hours? That's crazy! 🤯 But seriously, it just goes to show how passionate people are about this cause and how they're willing to come together for a good reason. Tom Morello totally killed it on stage, his energy is infectious 💥. And can we talk about Bruce Springsteen's live debut of "Streets of Minneapolis"? I'm still buzzing from that performance 🎸. It was clear that everyone in the crowd was united behind a cause and not just there for the music... although, let's be real, the music was pretty epic too 🤘.

OMG 🤯 just got back from the most EPIC anti-ICE benefit concert at First Avenue and I'm still buzzing! 🎉 The energy was ELECTRIC 💥 with a star-studded lineup of musicians, but TBH, Tom Morello was the real MVP 🙌. His setlist was like a masterclass in protest music – he brought so much passion and fire to the stage 🔥! And can we talk about Bruce Springsteen for a sec? 🤩 He delivered that live debut of "Streets of Minneapolis" like it was meant to be sung by him, and joining forces with Morello was pure magic ✨. The whole crowd was HYPED (and rightfully so) after the epic cover of John Lennon's "Power to the People" 💪 – we were all united in our resistance against ICE 🚫. Kudos to everyone involved for making a statement and raising awareness about this important issue 🙏.
