Senate Dems Who Pushed Meatier ICE Reform Shy Away From Criticizing Schumer’s Softer Package

Democrat Senators Who Pushed For Tougher ICE Reform Suddenly Lose Their Boldness When It Comes to Criticizing Schumer’s Softer Package.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries recently sent a joint letter to the Department of Homeland Security, requesting reforms that would leave the agency's budget untouched. The request includes measures such as prohibiting ICE agents from wearing masks or entering homes without a warrant. However, when it comes to criticizing Schumer's softer package, some Democrat lawmakers have become surprisingly quiet.

The Democrats' proposal has been met with criticism from congressional Republicans, who dismissed the reforms out of hand. Despite this, progressive Democrats in the Senate have called for clawing back increased ICE spending passed as part of President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act. However, they seem to be hesitant to criticize their party leadership over the request for more limited reforms.

One of the main demands from Schumer and Jeffries is a reduction in funding for ICE and CBP. However, some progressive Democrats have refused to back down on this issue. In an email last week, Heidi Altman, the vice president of policy at the National Immigration Law Center, stated that "these demands must include cuts in funding" and added that "the money pays for the violence. It has to stop."

In contrast, Schumer's softer package appears to be gaining traction within the Democratic party. The Senator's proposals aim to address some of the issues surrounding ICE but without making any major changes to their budget. However, this approach seems to have been met with criticism from some progressive Democrats who are advocating for more drastic measures.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether Schumer's softer package will receive enough support from his colleagues in Congress.

I'm seeing some major backpedaling from those progressive Dems 🤔. I mean, one minute they're all about taking down ICE and making radical changes, and the next they're just chillin' with Schumer's softer proposal 😐. It's like they're waiting for someone else to make a move so they can jump on board. And honestly, I'm not sure if it's about principle or just about getting re-elected 🤷‍♀️. Either way, it's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out in the Senate 📊.

🤔 so i'm kinda confused... don't get me wrong, i think reforming ICE is a great idea, but shouldn't these democrat senators just stand by what they believed in? 🙄 like, if they wanted tougher reform, why are they suddenly being all quiet about it when Schumer's proposal comes along? didn't they promise their constituents that they'd fight for stronger changes? 💔 now it seems like they're just going along with the party leadership and not speaking up... what's going on here? 🤝

🤔 I feel like we're missing a major discussion on this one. We should've pushed back harder against Schumer's softer package when it came out. I get that it's a step forward, but isn't 50% better than nothing? 🙄 It's wild to see some of our more progressive lawmakers going quiet when it comes to criticizing the leadership. What happened to all the outrage about ICE reform last year? 😒 Did we just lose steam or something?

I think its kinda weird that these Democrat Senators are suddenly getting all meek when it comes to Schumer's proposal 🤔. I mean, I get where they're coming from - we don't wanna rock the boat or anything 🚣‍♀️. But at the same time, some of these ppl have been super vocal about wanting to cut down on ICE spending and make things more humane 🌎. It's like, are they really scared to speak up for what they believe in? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe Schumer's softer package is just a better way forward... or maybe its not 💸. One thing's for sure, though - this is all gonna get super interesting as more ppl start chiming in 💬!

I'm super confused about these democrat senators who are all like "we need tough reforms" but then when it comes to criticizing Schumer's package they just shut up 🤷‍♀️💸. I get that the republican party is being super harsh with their criticism but shouldn't we be trying to find common ground here? I mean isn't the goal to make ICE better and more accountable for its actions? It's crazy to me how some of these democrats are just okay with Schumer's softer package without even giving it a second thought 🙄. What happened to all that talk about "clawing back" increased funding for immigration reform? It seems like they're being super spineless now 😴.

omg what's going on with democrats and ice reform 🤔 they were so bold about pushing for tougher reforms but now suddenly they're too scared to speak up against schumer's softer package 🙅‍♂️ like, isn't that kinda the whole point of being a senator - to make tough decisions and stand up for what you believe in? 😒

😒 I'm kinda confused about why some of these Democrat lawmakers are being super quiet when it comes to criticizing Schumer's package. Like, if they're really passionate about making ICE reforms happen, shouldn't they be speaking up about the issues with the softer proposal? 🤔 It seems like they're just going along with what the party leadership wants without questioning it too much. That doesn't seem very Democratic to me... 🤷‍♂️ I'm all for compromise and working together, but if we want real change, we need to have some tough conversations about what's really important here! 💬

I'm a bit surprised by how mellow some of our Dem senators have become when it comes to taking on Schumer's package 🤔. I mean, I get that they want to pass some reforms and make ICE more accountable, but refusing to criticize the leadership over the funding cuts is a bit weird. It feels like they're being held back by fear of retaliation 🙅‍♂️. And honestly, Heidi Altman's email hit me right in the feels - cutting off funding is a no-brainer when it comes to reducing violence and abuse in the system 💔. But at the same time, I can see why Schumer wants to keep things more palatable for his party. Maybe this whole thing just needs some time to simmer down? 😐

🤷‍♀️ I guess it's just expected now that when your party leaders propose a watered-down version of an issue you're passionate about, you're supposed to just go along with it without questioning? 😒 It's like Schumer's softer package is the "winning" formula or something. Newsflash: just because it's not as extreme doesn't mean it's still not better than nothing! 🙄

I don't usually comment but... I'm kinda surprised by how quiet those progressive Democrats have become when it comes to criticizing Schumer's softer package 🤔. I mean, they were all about pushing for tougher reforms just a minute ago, and now suddenly they're hesitant to speak out against the leadership 💭. It's like they're playing it safe, you know? They're worried about getting on the wrong side of Schumer and Jeffries 👊. But honestly, if they really care about making a change, shouldn't they be speaking up even more? 🗣️ The emails from Altman and others are fire 🔥, but it's like their words are getting lost in the shuffle 🎶. I hope they find their voice again soon 💪

I feel a bit sad when I see my fellow Democrats backing down from what they initially stood for 🤔. It's like they're worried about rocking the boat or losing some popularity points. I get it, politics can be tough and everyone has to compromise at some point. But sometimes I wonder if we're losing sight of what's truly important here - the lives and dignity of those affected by ICE policies.

As someone who's lived through a lot in life, I've learned that courage is not about being bold or unpopular, it's about standing up for what you believe in, even when it's hard 🌟. And if these Democrats are really committed to making change, they should be willing to challenge Schumer's package, even if it means going against the party leadership.

I think we need more voices of reason and conviction in our politics, folks 💬. We can't just sit back and let things get watered down for the sake of politics. We need to keep pushing for real change and holding our leaders accountable 🌎.

I'm so confused 🤯 about what's going on here. I thought we were trying to make a difference with our politics, but now some of my friends are being really quiet about the issue. I mean, I get it, Schumer's package is softer, and that might not be exactly what we want, but can't we just talk about it? 🤔 It feels like they're all scared to ruffle any feathers. And I don't get why some people still want to cut funding for ICE, it seems so extreme. Can't we find a middle ground? 🤷‍♀️ Like, what's the harm in having some more limits on their powers? It just doesn't make sense to me...

I'm really disappointed to see some of our own Democrats backing down on their principles when it comes to immigration reform 🤕. It's like they're all of a sudden too scared to rock the boat, even if it means going against Schumer's softer package.

Look, I get that Schumer's proposal might be a step in the right direction, but it's still not doing enough for those who are being affected by ICE's actions 💔. The fact that some lawmakers are refusing to even discuss clawing back funding is just mind-boggling to me 🤯. Can't they see that we need more drastic changes if we want to truly address the systemic issues within our immigration system?

It's like, what happened to the fire and passion that got us into politics in the first place? Where did all that enthusiasm go? 😒

😒 u guys ever feel like politicians r just a bunch of cowards? 🐮 Like they're only bold when it comes to criticizing each other, but when it comes to actually making a change, they turn tail and run. I'm talking about Schumer's softer package here... it seems like the progressive Democrats are all like "oh yeah, we need to make ICE reform happen" but as soon as it gets to the actual proposal stage, they're suddenly all like "um, no thanks". 🙅‍♂️ It's like they forgot that they were the ones who wanted change in the first place. And don't even get me started on how quiet they are when it comes to criticizing Schumer... it's like they're too scared to speak up. 😳 What happened to the boldness? Where did it go? Did they all just lose their nerve or something? 🤔 It's so frustrating!

I'm so done with these Democrat senators being all bold and stuff when it comes to talking about ICE reform... like, what happened to them now? 🙄 They're just suddenly not being as outspoken because of Schumer's softer package? That makes total sense, considering they want to keep their jobs 😒. And honestly, I don't get why they can't just call out the Republicans for being hypocrites instead of focusing on Schumer's proposal. It's all about playing nice and getting along, right? 😐 But let's be real, if you're not willing to stand up for what you believe in, then maybe you shouldn't be in politics... or at least, that's my two cents 🤷‍♀️.

Omg what's going on w/ these democrat senators?! 🤔 they were so bold about pushing for tougher ICE reform now they're ghosting when it comes to Schumer's softer package? 😐 i think it's because they know it's not gonna fly with the party leadership. but honestly, can't we just have some nuance here? 💡 like they say, 'the devil is in the details'. maybe instead of just taking a hardline stance, they should be having a more open discussion about what's really going on at ICE. 🤝
