South Bay community offers mixed reactions to San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan's gubernatorial plans

Mahan's foray into governorship sparks divided opinions in San Jose community. The local politician's entry into the California gubernatorial race has left some residents feeling apprehensive, while others have expressed optimism about his potential to tackle the state's pressing issues.

Supporters like former San Jose Mayor and Congressman Sam Liccardo have lent their backing, citing Mahan's leadership qualities and emphasis on accountability as key attributes. Vice Mayor Pam Foley echoed Liccardo's sentiments, saying that Mahan's successes in San Jose can be replicated statewide.

However, not everyone shares this enthusiasm. Critics point to the unfinished business left by Mahan during his brief tenure as mayor, with some arguing that he prioritized short-term gains over long-term solutions. The unhoused population has been particularly vocal about their discontent, citing inadequate distribution of interim housing and sweeping measures.

Councilmember Bien Doan expressed a more nuanced view, stating that he wants a governor who can fight for all Californians, regardless of party affiliation or regional loyalty. He also emphasized the importance of building relationships at both the state and federal levels.

As the gubernatorial race heats up, many voters remain undecided, unsure which candidate will best represent their interests. Mahan's decision to run for governor has set off a contentious debate within the San Jose community, with opinions sharply divided along party lines and geographical fault lines.

I THINK MAHAN'S GOVERNORSHIP BID IS A BIG DEAL FOR SAN JOSE!!! SOME PEOPLE LOVE HIM FOR HIS LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND ACCOUNTABILITY ATTITUDE ๐Ÿค BUT OTHERS ARE LIKE "WAIT A MINUTE, WHAT ABOUT ALL THE UNFINISHED BUSINESS FROM WHEN HE WAS MAYOR?!" ๐Ÿšง IT'S PRETTY DIVIDED HERE IN THE COMMUNITY, TO BE HONEST!

idk why mahan decided to jump into this, i mean he was pretty decent as mayor but now it feels like he's just gonna be some rich dude in Sacramento making decisions for us without really knowing what san jose needs. ppl are split on him, some think he'll bring change and others think he's just gonna mess things up. sam liccardo and pam foley seem to have his back tho ๐Ÿค”

I'm thinking about this gov race and I gotta say, Mahan's entry is definitely creating some drama ๐Ÿค”. On one hand, he did do some cool stuff in San Jose as mayor, like the downtown development project, but also had his share of problems, you know? Some ppl might be worried that if he gets governor, he'll still make decisions that benefit just his own city rather than the whole state.

I'm not sure about this too... I mean, Liccardo and Foley are totally on board with Mahan, which is cool, but some other council members like Doan seem more level-headed. They're saying we need someone who's gonna represent everyone, regardless of where they live or what party they vote for. It's all very interesting to watch from the sidelines ๐Ÿ“บ

๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿค” Mahan's got some good qualities, but let's not forget about his ' unfinished business' ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Can't have a governor who's all about short-term gains, fam! ๐Ÿค‘

Can't just split the vote along party lines, we need someone for ALL Californians ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒŽ

Mahan's foray into gov is def a wild card ๐Ÿค”. I think it's awesome that ppl are stoked about his leadership skills & accountability vibes ๐Ÿ’ช. But, I also feel bad 4 the unhoused population - they deserve better than just interim housing solutions ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. I've been followin' Sam Liccardo's thoughts on this, and he makes some solid points about Mahan's potential to tackle big issues ๐Ÿ”ฅ. On the other hand, ppl who are skeptical 'bout Mahan's tenure in San Jose got some valid concerns ๐Ÿ’ก. Maybe what we really need is someone who can bridge the gap between party affiliations & regional loyalty? ๐ŸŒŽ Councilmember Bien Doan seems like a breath of fresh air with that nuanced view ๐Ÿ˜Š. At this point, I'm still tryin' 2 figure out w/er Mahan's for governor is gonna shake things up or just stir up more drama ๐Ÿคฏ.

I'm thinkin' Mahan's got some good qualities, but I don't know if he's ready for this big gig ๐Ÿค”. I mean, his time as mayor was cut short, so there's still a lot to learn from that experience. And yeah, the unhoused population needs more attention - it's just not right that they're bein' left high and dry ๐Ÿ˜•. But at the same time, we need someone who can bring people together, you know? Like Councilmember Doan said, it's all about fightin' for everyone, not just one party or region ๐Ÿค. I'm still on the fence myself...

I'm not surprised about this ๐Ÿ˜‚, politicians are always up to something ๐Ÿค”. I mean, who doesn't love a good drama? It's like they're trying to make our heads spin ๐ŸŒ€! On one hand, you got the Mahan fans who think he's gonna be the savior of California ๐ŸŒŸ, and on the other side, you got those who are just waiting for him to mess up so they can say "I told you so" ๐Ÿ˜œ. The unhoused population is especially worried because, let's face it, housing is a huge issue ๐Ÿ . It's like, how hard can it be to build some decent shelters? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I guess we'll just have to wait and see who comes out on top ๐ŸŽ‰. But honestly, who knows what the future holds? Maybe Mahan will surprise us all and become a great governor ๐Ÿคž... or maybe he'll mess up big time ๐Ÿ˜ณ! Either way, it's gonna be entertaining to watch ๐Ÿ“บ!

I'm reading this news about Mahan's governorship bid and I gotta say, it's pretty interesting how passionate people are about him... or not ๐Ÿคฏ. On one hand, his leadership qualities and focus on accountability are definitely positives. And Sam Liccardo's backing is super legit ๐Ÿ’ฏ. But then there are the critics who are like, "Uh, what about all the unfinished stuff from his time as mayor?" ๐Ÿค” I mean, it's hard to deny that some folks might be a little concerned about that.

And can we talk about the unhoused population for a sec? ๐Ÿ˜• It's like, super frustrating when you see issues like this and people aren't being heard. But at the same time, I get why Councilmember Bien Doan is saying what he is - we need someone who can bridge the gaps and represent everyone, not just one group ๐ŸŒˆ.

For me, it's all about finding that balance between short-term wins and long-term solutions ๐Ÿค. And honestly, I think a lot of people are still unsure about which candidate will truly listen to their concerns ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out...

I'm literally so done with this whole thing ๐Ÿคฏ... like, can't we just focus on solving some of these massive problems already? ๐Ÿ™„ Mahan's decision to run for governor is supposed to be about tackling the state's pressing issues, but honestly, it feels like he's just gonna be another politician who talks a good game and doesn't deliver ๐Ÿ˜’. And don't even get me started on the unhoused population... how can anyone think that sweeping measures are gonna fix anything? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ We need real solutions, not just PR stunts. And what's with all this talk about party affiliation and regional loyalty? Can we please just choose a governor who cares about EVERYONE, regardless of where they're from or who they vote for? ๐Ÿ’– It feels like we're stuck in this never-ending cycle of politicking and nothing ever actually gets done ๐Ÿคฏ... ugh.

I donโ€™t usually comment but I think itโ€™s kinda weird how some ppl are already picking sides ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘€. Like, canโ€™t we just support whoever seems genuine to us? Sam Liccardo and Pam Foley seem legit, but then there's all this baggage about Mahan not doing enough for the unhoused population ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’”. I donโ€™t know if party lines really matter that much. We need someone whoโ€™s gonna listen to both sides and try to find common ground, you know? ๐Ÿค Itโ€™s a bit scary seeing it get so heated already ๐Ÿ’ฅ, but I guess thatโ€™s what happens when ppl care about the future of Cali ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
