Surprise, surprise: Silksong wins Steam’s Game of the Year

Valve Announces Steam Awards 2025 Winners, Silksong Takes Game of the Year Crown Despite Widespread Favouritism.

The highly-anticipated 2025 Steam Awards have finally come to a close and, as many had predicted, Valve's flagship title 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' emerged victorious in the coveted "Game of the Year" category. The game has been garnering immense praise since its release in September, bringing about widespread digital system crashes that highlighted just how popular it had become.

While not entirely surprising given the enthusiastic response to the game from critics and players alike, the win still seemed almost inevitable at this point. On a lighter note, Silksong also took home the "Best Game You Suck At" award – though its true meaning remains unclear.

In other notable news, Hades II was awarded Best Game on Steam Deck due to its mechanics allowing for seamless short bursts of playtime and its stylized graphics scaling down well. However, some critics have argued that Silent Hill f deservedly took home the Outstanding Visual Style award instead.

A full list of winners can be found at the Steam Awards 2025 landing page.

I'm not surprised Silksong took game of the year 🤔. It's been getting a ton of love from players and critics, and with its popularity comes some frustration - who hasn't had to deal with system crashes or waiting in line for friends to play with you? 😩 Still, it's cool to see Valve give the game some love. I think what's interesting is how some people are still salty about Silent Hill not winning Outstanding Visual Style... it was a beautiful game that definitely deserved some recognition 🎨. It's also good to see Hades II get some love for its Steam Deck performance - games like those make the platform even more appealing! 👍

omg i knew silksong was gonna take it 🤩🎮 but idk how much the other games were hyped to be honest haha game of the year is def a no surprise tho, critics and players r all like "oh my god hollow knight" 😂 anyway, happy for the devs they deserve it!

btw i'm kinda surprised silent hill f didnt get more recognition for that visual style lol steam deck's mechanics sound super cool btw 📊💻 what do u think about hades II? should've won outstanding visual style tho 🤔

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised Hollow Knight: Silksong won Game of the Year 🤔. Don't get me wrong, it's a dope game and all, but wasn't there another contender that people were low-key rooting for? Like, Silent Hill f was getting all the hype on socials and some critics thought it deserved it more 🤷‍♂️. Maybe I'm just not seeing the light here, but I think Hades II did a solid job with its Steam Deck optimization 📱. And what's up with the "Best Game You Suck At" award? Is that even a thing? 😅 Either way, congrats to Silksong on taking home the top prize 💥.

OMG u guys I'm low-key shocked that Silksong actually beat out Hades II for Game of the Year 🤯 I mean, don't get me wrong its a sick game and all but I was def rooting for Hades II 🤔 their mechanics are straight fire 💥 and it's so satisfying to play. Guess you can never predict what Valve has in store for us tho 🤷‍♀️. And lol the "Best Game You Suck At" award is literally the most underrated thing ever 😂 I mean who hasn't played Silksong and died like 5 times trying to beat that one boss? 🎮

🤯 I'm low-key surprised by Silksong winning Game of the Year tho, felt like it was gonna sweep everything! 😂 Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing game but there were some other titles that I thought had a shot too. Still happy for Valve and the devs for all the hard work they put in. The "Best Game You Suck At" award tho... 🤣 is that even a thing? Either way, congrats to Silksong! 👏

omg i'm not surprised silksong won game of the year tbh 😂 i mean it's been getting so much hype since release and critics were all like yay let's give this game a bunch of awards 🎉 but seriously, 'best game you suck at' is just the best award ever lol what does that even mean? 💁‍♀️ did they have a survey or something to decide who sucked the most? 🤔

I'm not convinced Silksong was the clear winner here... I mean, yeah it's gotten rave reviews and all, but digital system crashes? That sounds like a major red flag to me 🤔. Can someone provide some stats on how many players actually got to play the game without crashing their rigs? And what about the voting process itself - didn't Valve kinda... influence the results or something? 🤑 I'm also curious about that "Best Game You Suck At" award - is it just a joke, or are they serious? Shouldn't we be looking at more nuanced awards like Game of the Year, Best Story, etc. rather than some tongue-in-cheek category?

idk why people were so surprised Silksong won game of the year lol was everyone really underestimating its impact? anyway, the "best game you suck at" award is a great touch btw i think it's about how hard the devs made it not to get silksong right first try

I mean, I'm not surprised Silksong won game of the year tbh 🤔 it's been everywhere and everyone loves it, but does that really mean it was the best? I don't think so... The way it brought down a lot of systems when people tried to play it just seems like Valve doing some weird PR stunt 💻. And what's up with the "Best Game You Suck At" award tho 🤷‍♂️? Is that even a thing? It feels like they're just making this stuff up as they go along... The Steam Deck winner, Hades II, is actually pretty cool though 👍 at least it does something right for once. And Silent Hill definitely deserved that Outstanding Visual Style award, but I guess you can't win 'em all 🙄

omg i'm so surprised by Silksong winning game of the year tho 🤯 i mean don't get me wrong its a great game and all but there were so many other amazing games released this year that i think some people might've been snubbed 😔 like did Silent Hill really deserve Outstanding Visual Style over Hades II? 🤔 and what's up with the "Best Game You Suck At" award lol is it supposed to be a joke or something? 🤣

lol at Silksong taking Game of the Year despite being super popular 🤯! I mean, I get it, Valve's got that influence, but still, Hades II was definitely a strong contender and deserved a nod in Best Game on Steam Deck 👏. And what's up with "Best Game You Suck At" tho? 😂 I'm not sure if that award is meant to be ironic or just Valve being Valve 😜. On the bright side, I love how Silksong won Outstanding Visual Style – that game's art style is STUNNING 🎨!
