The Guardian view on Trump and China: stepping back from the brink, but not solving problems | Editorial

So now we've got a trade deal, yay! 🎉 But let's get real, folks, this is like agreeing to go on a diet and then eating an entire pizza by yourself... technically you're making progress, but your waistline is still gonna be a hot mess 😂. I mean, China gets to keep its rare earth exports and access to tech, and the US just gets to say it tried... kinda. It's like trying to find common ground with a friend who always has the last slice of pizza 🧀. Not exactly winning friends or influencing people here...

omg u guys I just watched this meeting between trump and xi Jinping on cnn lol trump is like "oh we r besties now" while xi is all "yeah no worries, just dont mess with me on rare earth exports lol"

anyway i'm not really surprised by this deal tbh. its all about China being all "we'll do what u want if u play by our rules" meanwhile the us is like "okay cool we'll just lower tariffs and pretend everything is fine"

i mean dont get me wrong, i guess it's a step in the right direction or whatever but its not like they actually solved anything. theres still so many underlying issues that need to be addressed and both sides are just kinda... ignoring them

and can we talk about how confusing this whole thing is? like, trade policies vs diplomatic efforts vs rare earth exports... my brain hurts
