US Federal Reserve chair says DOJ has threatened criminal indictment – video

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell revealed on Monday that he and his family have been targeted by a threat, reportedly from the Department of Justice (DOJ), which warned them that they could face a criminal indictment if the Fed does not comply with their demands.

According to sources close to the matter, Powell's home has been targeted in the apparent extortion attempt. The DOJ allegedly made this thinly veiled threat to try and influence the Federal Reserve's decisions on monetary policy and interest rates.

The exact nature of the DOJ's demands remains unclear, but it is reportedly related to the Fed's stance on inflation control and its response to the economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic.

Powell emphasized that the threat was investigated by the FBI, which found no evidence of wrongdoing. Nonetheless, he expressed concern over the intimidation tactics employed by the DOJ in their dealings with high-ranking government officials.

This disturbing incident highlights the growing tensions between the executive and legislative branches of the US government. It also raises questions about the limits of executive power and the independence of key government agencies, such as the Federal Reserve.

The Federal Reserve has since issued a statement expressing its commitment to upholding its statutory mandate and ensuring the stability of the financial system.

OMG I'm like so confused what's going on 🤔? So this is happening with the head of the Federal Reserve and his family being targeted by some people from the Department of Justice? Like, who does that? 😳 It sounds super intense and scary for him and his fam. And it's because of some stuff about inflation control? I don't get how that relates to them trying to extort him or whatever... 🤷‍♀️

I'm also kinda worried about the Federal Reserve and their independence, you know? Like, what if they're not doing a good job with monetary policy and interest rates? Do they need some kind of threat from the DOJ to get it right? 🤦‍♂️ That doesn't seem like a healthy system...

Can someone explain this stuff in simpler terms for me? I'm totally lost 😅

🤔 This is getting out of hand... I mean, I get it, politics is cutthroat, but threatening someone's family? That's just not right. 😒 The fact that it's the DOJ doing this, I can understand why Powell would be worried - they do have a lot of power and influence. But at the same time, you'd think that people in positions like that would have some protection from intimidation tactics. 🚫

I'm also wondering what exactly was the DOJ trying to get out of this? Was it really about inflation control or just an attempt to exert pressure on the Fed? 🤑 Either way, it's not good for democracy when you have these kinds of threats and allegations flying around. 🤯

🤔 This is getting outta hand. Someones got to make a move without all these threats 🚫. Can't even have dinner at home without some 3-letter agency breathing down your neck. Like, what's next? Sending threatening letters to pizza delivery guys too 🍕. Powell's right to be worried tho - gotta wonder if he's getting paid enough to deal with this drama 💸. Shouldn't the FBI just focus on actual crime and not playing politics? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 just heard this on Bloomberg and I'm getting major vibes that something's off 🚨 like what happens when power plays get too intense? 🤑 the Fed's gotta keep it neutral but it's hard not to wonder if there's some dirty laundry being swept under the rug 🧹 and all this talk of DOJ threats makes me think we're living in a real-life spy thriller 💥 anyone have a link to more on this? 😒 [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-reserve-chair-powell-targeted-by-doj-threat) 👉

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this 😮 - I mean, a threat from the DOJ? That's just scary. I'm not sure what's going on with our country right now, but it feels like someone is playing politics with the economy and people's lives 🤯.

And Powell's family got targeted too? That's just personal. He can't even go home without worrying about his safety 😷. It's not like he's some kind of enemy to the government. I'm all for accountability, but this feels like intimidation.

I'm also worried about the Fed's independence right now. If the DOJ is trying to influence their decisions, that's not how democracy works 🤔. What's next? The FBI investigating the White House? It's all just too much 😩.

OMG, this is so not cool 🤯! Like, I get it, there's a lot of pressure on the Fed to make decisions that benefit the economy, but threats from the DOJ? That's just not right 😒. And what's up with them targeting Powell's home? Is this some kinda joke? 🙄

And don't even get me started on the whole 'influence' thing... like, come on, DOJ! Can't you guys do your job without trying to bully people into compliance? It's just not how it works 💁‍♀️.

I mean, I guess this is a good example of why we need more transparency and accountability in our government. If the Fed's doing something shady, someone should be held accountable 🤝. And can't they just have an open discussion about their concerns instead of trying to intimidate each other? 💬

Anyway, it's good that Powell spoke out against this intimidation tactic, but like, what's next? Is anyone else gonna get targeted if they don't comply with the DOJ's demands? 🤔

Ugh 🤦‍♂️ this is just getting out of hand 😒. I mean, can't we just have a decent conversation about economic policy without the DOJ trying to strong-arm the Fed? It's like they're trying to create some kind of twisted leverage to get what they want. And now Powell is worried about his family's safety? That's just ridiculous 🙄. The FBI says no evidence, but do we really believe that? I'm not buying it. This whole thing reeks of politics gone wrong and a complete breakdown in trust between the branches of government. It's like they're all playing some kind of toxic game where everyone's a loser 💔.

🚨 Omg, this is getting super shady 😱! I'm all for keeping the Fed in check, but threats against their personal lives? That's just wrong 🤕. It's like they're trying to control not just monetary policy, but people's lives too. Like, what's next? Threatening politicians' families? 🚫

I'm also kinda worried about the whole power dynamic here. If the DOJ is making threats against the Fed Chair and his family, that's a big deal. It makes me wonder if there are more strings being pulled behind the scenes than we know about.

Anyway, I hope Powell's family gets through this okay 🤞. And hopefully, this incident will prompt some real action from lawmakers to address these kinds of threats and protect everyone involved 💪

omg what's goin on with the DOJ tho 🤯 like Jerome Powell's family is gettin targeted for threats? that's low ⚠️ i mean i get it, politics can get crazy but extortion tactics? that's just sick 😷

i feel bad for his fam, gotta be super stressful knowin they're bein intimidated like that. and its even more messed up since the FBI found nothin wrong 🙅‍♂️ but DOJ still tryna make threats?

anywayz, this is def a disturbing incident and it raises some serious questions about who's in charge and who gets to pull the strings 💸 so yeah, i'm all for Powell standin firm and keepin his commitment to upholding the Fed's mandate 💯

I'm getting a bad vibe from this whole thing 🤔. The fact that the DOJ is trying to extort the Fed just because they don't agree on monetary policy is really unsettling. I mean, isn't that what we're supposed to have – an independent central bank making decisions for the country's economy? It sounds like someone's getting a bit too cozy with power 💸.

I'm also worried about Jerome Powell and his family being targeted 🚫. That's not just a threat to him as a person, but to his ability to do his job and make tough decisions. If the DOJ can intimidate him that easily, what's next? It's like they're trying to create a culture of fear in government.

It's times like these that I think we need to talk about the importance of checks and balances 🤝. If one branch of government starts abusing its power, it can have serious consequences for our democracy. The Fed needs to keep pushing back against this kind of intimidation and ensure that they're not bullied into doing what they don't want to do 💪.

🤯 This is some serious stuff going on with the Fed Chair! I mean, who gets threatened by the DOJ like that? 🙅‍♂️ It's like they're trying to pull a fast one on Powell and the rest of us. I'm all for transparency, but this just seems like a bunch of BS. 🤥 Can we get some answers on what's really going on here? The Fed needs to stay independent and make decisions based on the economy, not some backroom deal. 💸 We need to keep an eye on this situation and see how it plays out. #FederalReserve #DOJ #MonetaryPolicy #IndependenceMatters

Umm I dont get why DOJ is trying to strong-arm Powell like that 🤔...I mean I know they're upset about the Fed's policies on inflation and all, but extortion? That's just not right 😒. It sounds like they're using scare tactics to get what they want, which is really concerning. The FBI said there was no wrongdoing, so why are they still pushing for this? 🤷‍♂️ And what about the Fed's independence? Don't they need to be able to make decisions without being intimidated by the DOJ? 🙄 It seems like a classic case of power play and I don't think it's healthy for our country... 😕

🤯 this is getting outta hand dude, like what's next? Threatening some random Fed chair just because they're doing their job? It's like, can't we just focus on solving problems instead of trying to strong-arm people into compliance? I mean, I get that the DOJ's got its own agenda, but threatening a family is just low. And Powell's right, it's all about intimidation tactics... does anyone think this is gonna stop Fed from doing what they need to do? 🤑
