A vehicle careened wildly through a concrete sound barrier wall on Interstate 55 near Romeoville early Thursday morning, resulting in a catastrophic three-vehicle collision that claimed one life. The accident occurred at approximately 3:46 a.m. when northbound I-55 between Route 126 and U.S. 30 was the scene of the chaos.
Eyewitnesses described one of the vehicles as having "entered the interstate after traveling through a concrete sound barrier wall" from Taylor Road, before it crashed into two other vehicles. A rescue effort was swiftly mobilized by Plainfield firefighters who responded to the emergency.
The dramatic scene unfolded with one vehicle apparently bursting through the protective barrier and onto the highway, while another suffered significant damage from the collision, prompting the fire department's swift intervention. Firefighters conducted extrication operations on a trapped occupant before taking a survivor to Bolingbrook Hospital in critical but stable condition. Two other individuals involved were airlifted by helicopter to receive medical attention.

anyway, gotta feel for the family of the person who lost their life tho, it's so tragic

But at the same time, can we talk about how crazy reckless it was to drive through a sound barrier wall in the first place?! 
I mean, I get it accidents happen, but this is just wild. And poor guy who lost his life... RIP 
who worked so hard to save those survivors. But can we also talk about how insane the police investigation is? 
And the fact that two other people were airlifted away... like, what even happened to those cars?! 
that's just crazy 
either way, it's a miracle more people weren't hurt... and what about the other vehicles that got damaged? 
. We need to be held accountable for our actions on the road, you know? It's a huge responsibility to be driving, and we have to take that seriously.

As for what led up to this incident, it's anyone's guess at this point. Maybe there was an underlying issue with the vehicle that we don't know about yet?

. hope the responders were able to do their job quickly so more lives weren't lost 
. how many of these barriers have we had on our highways for years now? it's only when something like this happens that we start talking about safety and inspection protocols. hope the rescue team did their job well, but can't help feeling that this is just another preventable accident waiting to happen

. It would be beneficial for authorities to review their protocols for dealing with situations like this, particularly in regards to swift response times and emergency procedures 
two others lucky to be alive but what if they weren't? it's always these wild moments on the roads where you're wondering how someone gets so reckless, what's going through their head at that split second? 
A sound barrier wall is literally designed to prevent this kinda thing from happening... but not for these guys
