Villanova University says its campus is safe after investigating threat to academic building

Villanova University has assured students that its campus is safe, following a threat of violence made against one of its academic buildings earlier in the day. The university initially closed due to the threat but later reported no immediate danger after receiving further information.

In a move aimed at protecting student safety, Villanova canceled classes and activities for the rest of the day, while keeping only certain facilities such as the student health center, library, Connelly Center, and three main dining halls open. An increased police presence will remain in place throughout the day.

The FBI and local law enforcement authorities are investigating the threat, which is believed to be part of a larger trend of "swatting" incidents - a type of online harassment where threats are made against individuals or institutions through fake emergency calls. Villanova officials did not disclose any other universities that received similar threats but confirmed multiple institutions were affected.

This marks the latest incident in a long line of threats at Villanova, which has previously seen its campus shut down due to reports of an active shooter. Last August, law enforcement officials determined that a threat made during the university's orientation mass was a "cruel hoax" and not an actual credible threat.

The anti-extremism group behind a report on swatting incidents suggested that the perpetrators were likely an underground cybercrime group. As the investigation into the latest threat continues, Villanova University is providing updates to students and staff about its safety protocols in place.

omg like what's going on with these swatting threats lol they're just so scary ๐Ÿคฏ villanova's gotta do something to protect their students but at the same time you feel bad for the people behind it, they must be pretty desperate ๐Ÿ˜” i mean some ppl think its funny or whatever but its not cool when ur threatening real ppl or ur own uni ๐Ÿšซ can't we just have a peaceful online life for once? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ anyway kudos to villanova's safety team for keeping the students safe, that's what matters most ๐Ÿ’ฏ

I feel like these "swatting" threats are getting way out of hand ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฌ They're just a bunch of cowards hiding behind their screens, making life hell for innocent people. I'm all for taking threats seriously, but at the same time, it's crazy how easily these kids can get universities to lock down entire campuses over a baseless threat. What's next? Are we gonna start canceling classes because someone on Twitter says so? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's just so frustrating when people think they can just game the system like that... Villanova should be working with law enforcement to identify these cybercrime groups and take them down, not coddling their feelings by providing updates about safety protocols. Come on!

Ugh, just great... another school day ruined by some dude's prank ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, I get it, swatting is a real thing and all, but can't people just chill? Like, what's the point of threatening violence if you're not even gonna follow through? And now Villanova has to spend resources on "safety protocols" and stuff... it's just so frustrating ๐Ÿ˜’. And yeah, I'm sure there are some genuine concerns out there, but this kind of thing makes me wonder how we're supposed to take these threats seriously when they're just some random internet prank ๐Ÿค”.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around these swatting incidents, you know? It's just so frustrating that some people feel like they can make a fake emergency call and cause such chaos and fear for others. I mean, can you imagine being on campus when your phone rings with an emergency number saying there's someone shot in the library? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ It's terrifying.

I think Villanova did the right thing by canceling classes and keeping some facilities open, but it's also worrying that this is happening to multiple universities. I hope they're taking these threats seriously and working with law enforcement to catch whoever is behind this. The FBI saying it might be part of a larger cybercrime group makes sense, but I wish they could give us more updates on what's being done to prevent these incidents in the future ๐Ÿค”.

this whole swatting thing is getting out of hand ๐Ÿคฏ think about it, these people are making fake emergency calls just to mess with someone's life, but at what cost? the university has to spend resources on policing their campus and keeping students safe which takes away from more important things like education ๐Ÿ˜” plus, if someone gets genuinely scared or hurt because of one of these threats, that's when it's really tragic ๐Ÿ’” and i feel for all the universities that are getting hit by this - villanova's safety protocols seem sensible but at what cost to their students' freedom ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'M REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE SWATTING INCIDENTS IT'S LIKE SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA HOW SERIOUS THEY CAN MAKE SOMEONE FEEL! I MEAN, THINKING A FINE IS WORTH CAUSING PANIC AND TRAUMA FOR SO MANY PEOPLE IS JUST SAD. THE FACT THAT VILLANOVA HAD TO SHUT DOWN ITS CAMPUS LIKE THIS MIGHT BE PRETTY STRONG, BUT IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THEY'RE TAKING STEPS TO PROTECT STUDENTS safety. BUT SERIOUSLY, WE NEED TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THESE THINGS AND STOP PEOPLE FROM DOING THIS!

When things get tough, the toughest find ways to make you feel worse ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Unfortunately, this is what's been happening at Villanova University with these swatting incidents... it's a scary world we live in today. The fact that they had to cancel classes and activities just because of a threat shows how serious this is ๐Ÿค•. I hope the investigation leads to some real answers and justice for those affected ๐Ÿ’”.

I'm so relieved to hear that Villanova's campus is safe ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ! I mean, can you imagine how stressful it must've been for everyone when they received that initial threat? But the fact that they took swift action and kept students safe is totally awesome ๐Ÿ’ช. It's just another example of how law enforcement and authorities are on top of these threats - the FBI and local police are working super hard to get to the bottom of this ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And hey, it's not like Villanova didn't have protocols in place for emergencies... they're all about looking out for each other there ๐Ÿ˜Š. I'm sure students and staff are just grateful for that!

omg, like what's going on with all these threats at villanova uni ๐Ÿคฏ?! first it was a fake active shooter report during orientation mass last august, now they're getting swatting threats again? it's super concerning for student safety ๐Ÿšจ. i hope the authorities can catch whoever is behind this and stop it ASAP ๐Ÿ’ก. cant imagine being in their shoes, wondering if you'll be okay after hearing a false emergency call ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. lets keep our fingers crossed that everything gets resolved soon ๐Ÿคž

You know, this whole thing with Villanova University just goes to show how quickly our online world can escalate into real-life threats ๐Ÿคฏ. It's like, we've got these cybercrime groups that think they're above the law, and they can just make threats against anyone they want without facing any consequences. And then we're left wondering why they're not being held accountable ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

But what really gets me is how universities are dealing with this. I mean, on one hand, you've got to take these threats seriously and ensure student safety. But on the other hand, you can't just let fear dictate your policies and shut down entire campuses like they're going out of style ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. It's a delicate balance, but one that needs to be struck if we want to stay safe in this digital age ๐Ÿ“Š.

And let's not forget, this is just another example of the systemic issues we need to address when it comes to cybersecurity and online crime ๐Ÿ’ป. We need better laws and regulations in place to hold these cybercrime groups accountable, and we need to invest more in education and awareness programs so people know how to spot a swatting threat from a mile away ๐Ÿ“š. It's time for us to take this stuff seriously and start making some real changes ๐Ÿ’ช.

Wow! can't believe those fake emergency calls are still happening ๐Ÿคฏ, Villanova's got to be super prepared for this kind of thing, so many classes canceled just because of some wannabe troll ๐Ÿ™„, hope the investigation catches whoever did it, gotta stay vigilant online and offline ๐Ÿšจ

I'm not buying the whole "campus safety" vibe here ๐Ÿค”. I mean, think about it - a university that's already had multiple instances of threats shuts down an entire day because of some "threat" made against one building? It sounds like they're more worried about being in the headlines than actually keeping their students safe ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ.

And let's be real, if there was ever a genuine threat, I'm sure the police and FBI would've been able to take care of it by now ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ. This whole "swatting" thing is just a bunch of kids playing online pranks, right? (Don't get me wrong, it's not cool, but come on) ๐Ÿ‘€

The fact that they're keeping certain facilities open and only canceling classes is pretty convenient ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Maybe Villanova wants to keep the students in line or something ๐Ÿค‘. Whatever the reason, I'm just saying... let's see what the investigation turns up before we start jumping to conclusions ๐ŸŽ‰

man, it's crazy how things have escalated like this ๐Ÿคฏ remember when we used to be worried about school shootings but at least they were just threats not actualities? now it feels like we're living in a movie where every threat is real and we gotta scramble ๐Ÿšจ. villanova was right to take precautions tho, safety first, can't have students walking around worrying all day ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. this swatting thing is wild too, never heard of it before but apparently its like some cyberbullies trying to cause chaos online ๐Ÿค–. hope the fbi and local authorities catch whoever did it ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. anyway, just glad no one was hurt or worse ๐Ÿ™

Ugh, this whole thing is just so messed up ๐Ÿคฏ... I mean, I get it, campus safety is super important, but can't we just chill for a sec? I was browsing through some old Villanova pics on the 'gram and now they're like, canceling classes and stuff. It's like, come on! You'd think we lived in the 90s or something ๐Ÿ™„.

But at the same time, you've got to respect their efforts to keep everyone safe, especially with all these swatting incidents going around. I mean, who thought that was a good idea? ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's just so... online. And it's crazy that multiple universities are being targeted like this. You'd think we're living in some kind of cyber thriller movie or something ๐Ÿ“บ.

Anyway, kudos to Villanova for taking precautions and keeping the student health center and library open. That's some good thinking right there ๐Ÿ’ก. Now let's just hope they can get to the bottom of this and stop these swatting incidents before anyone gets hurt ๐Ÿ˜ž.

๐Ÿค” I was just watching a video of these crazy "swatting" pranks on YouTube and it made me think about how people can be so reckless online. Like, who makes up a fake emergency call and threatens some innocent person's school? ๐Ÿ™„ It's just not right. And now Villanova's got to deal with this too? That campus is like my fave - I've been following their sports teams for years! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, hope everyone stays safe there. What's with the swatting thing tho? Is it like a cybercrime group or something? ๐Ÿค”
