ABC's KTRK TV Station Seeks VP of Technology with Media Expertise

In a bid to bolster its technical prowess, ABC-owned television station KTRK is on the hunt for a seasoned Vice President of Technology. The ideal candidate will possess at least 15 years of experience in media technology, operations, and project management, with a minimum of five years in a leadership role.

As the chief technological officer of the station, the VP will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and resilience of all systems required to run a 24/7 news operation. This includes overseeing the team of broadcast engineers, IT specialists, and facility technicians, as well as managing master control operators for ABC's streaming channels.

To secure this position, candidates must demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, a proven track record of managing high-performing teams, and expertise in managing complex technical projects. The ideal candidate will also possess advanced knowledge of new and traditional television broadcast equipment and systems, including master control and newsroom automation, routers, asset management systems, non-linear editing systems, and networked storage systems.

Additionally, the VP must have experience working with industry vendors to obtain quotes, clarify requirements, and ensure optimal technology procurements. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential due to frequent interactions with end-users, management, and engineering SMEs across ABC OTV.

The successful candidate will be part of a team that values innovation, quality standards, employee growth, and a healthy work-life balance. The company is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes job seekers from all backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities and veterans with disabilities.

can't believe we're still relying on old tech for our news stations 🤦‍♂️ like what's wrong with investing in some AI-powered automation systems to free up engineers to focus on more creative stuff? master control operators should be able to edit live streams just as easily as they do video packages 💻

🤔 I'm telling you, something fishy about this job posting... They're looking for someone to oversee the tech at ABC's news station? That's just a cover to control what information is being broadcasted, if you ask me. Think about it, they want someone with 15 years of experience in media tech and operations. What if that's just a way to weed out anyone who might question the narrative? 🤫 I mean, can't they just hire someone from within or give an opportunity to someone new? It just feels like another example of "the man" trying to control what we see and hear... 😒

omg I feel like this person would be so stressed out lol! 24/7 news operation? that's crazy! they need someone super organized & tech savvy to keep everything running smoothly 🤯. and can you imagine having to manage all those different systems? master control, newsroom automation... sounds like a lot to handle! 🙅‍♂️ I hope whoever gets the job is up for the challenge 😊

🤔 I think its great to see a big media station like KTRK looking for someone with tech expertise. In my day, we didn't have all these fancy systems they're talking about, but we managed just fine. It's just about having the right people in place who can make it all work smoothly.

For me, the key is finding someone with experience leading a team and getting things done under pressure. I mean, news stations are 24/7 operations - you need to be able to keep everything running without a hitch. And its not just about technical know-how, but also being able to communicate effectively with people who might not have the same level of tech expertise.

I'm glad they're looking for someone from all backgrounds too - diversity is what's going to bring new ideas and perspectives to the table.

lol just read about the VP tech job at KTRK TV Station 📺🔧 and I'm thinking... 15+ yrs of media tech exp + leadership skills = $$$ 🤑 according to Glassdoor, the national avg salary for a VP of Tech in Media is around $143k 💸, but in Houston it's like $170k 🤯, not bad! 👏 the station's tech team is prob like 100+ ppl 📊, so that's a lot of money being thrown around 🤑. also, with master control ops and newsroom automation involved, I'd say this role requires a solid grasp of ITIL vs MOSS... 🤔

man... media tech job opening at KTRK TV Station 📺💻 gotta be so much pressure to keep everything running smoothly 24/7 especially w/ master control & newsroom automation systems 🕒️ it's like trying to build a super long chain of dominoes 🎉 one wrong move and the whole thing comes crashing down 💥 anyway, i wonder if they're looking for someone with expertise in cloud computing or more traditional broadcasting tech? 🤔 might be interesting to see how they navigate that balance...

This is like the perfect example of why our government needs to invest more in the tech sector! I mean, think about it, KTRK TV Station is looking for a VP of Technology with media expertise - that's basically the definition of innovation and forward thinking! And let's be real, if we can't even get our own TV stations right when it comes to technology, how are we going to compete on the global stage? 🤔

And another thing, why is this position being advertised as an equal opportunity employer? Is that just a PR move or do they actually plan on giving opportunities to people from underrepresented groups? I mean, we all know that in today's tech world, diversity and inclusion are key to driving innovation... but is it just a talking point or a real commitment? 💡
