Weight-loss drug Wegovy now available as a daily pill, sparing users weekly shots

Novo Nordisk Takes Wegovy Pill Weight-Loss Drug Off the Shots and onto the Tablets

The Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has made a significant breakthrough in the weight-loss medication market by launching the pill version of its popular drug, Wegovy. This move marks the first time a GLP-1 weight-loss medication has been approved in pill form, paving the way for other drugs to follow suit.

As of now, starter doses of Wegovy are available at pharmacies with a prescription, and stronger doses are expected to hit the market by the end of the week. The FDA-approved pill, containing semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Ozempic, has been shown to promote weight loss and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in adults who are overweight or obese.

Patients will need to take the pill daily on an empty stomach with a small amount of water and avoid eating, drinking, or taking other medications for 30 minutes afterward. The starter dose is 1.5mg, but the pill will also be available in doses of 4mg, 9mg, and 25mg.

Healthcare professionals typically increase patients' dosages every 30 days until the maximum is reached. Novo Nordisk's senior vice president for marketing and patient solutions, Ed Cinca, believes that this pill form will make it possible for more people to achieve their weight-loss goals and lower the risks of cardiovascular disease.

The commercial cost of Wegovy pills is significantly lower than the standard injection, with commercially-insured people paying as little as $25 per month. For those paying out-of-pocket, the monthly cost ranges from $149 to $299. This move aims to make the medication more accessible to those who need it.

Wegovy's pill version has shown promising results in clinical trials, including an average weight loss of 17% over 64 weeks and a reduced risk of cardiovascular events. Eli Lilly is also working on its own GLP-1 drug, forglipron, which is expected to be approved by this summer. However, preliminary results from the company's trial have shown that the pill may not have the same restrictions as Wegovy's pill.

As the weight-loss medication market continues to evolve, the introduction of Wegovy pills marks a significant development in addressing obesity and related health issues. With its affordability and accessibility, Novo Nordisk's pill version is poised to become a game-changer for those seeking to lose weight and improve their overall health.

I'm so stoked about this new development with Wegovy pills πŸ’Š. I think it's amazing that the pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk is making it easier for people to access weight loss medication without having to deal with daily injections 🀯. The fact that the pill version is more affordable and accessible, especially for commercially-insured folks, is a total win in my book πŸŽ‰. I mean, we all know how hard it can be to stick to a diet or exercise routine when you're struggling with weight-related health issues πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ. So, this new pill form could be the game-changer many people have been waiting for πŸ’ͺ. Plus, the results from clinical trials are pretty impressive - 17% weight loss over 64 weeks? That's like, totally life-changing! πŸ‘ I just hope it encourages more people to take control of their health and make those lifestyle changes that can lead to a healthier, happier life 🌞.

I'm so curious about this new pill version of Wegovy! πŸ€” I mean, who wouldn't want to take a pill instead of getting shots? πŸ’‰ It makes total sense that the cost is lower too, $25 a month for insured people, that's crazy affordable! πŸ’Έ But what really gets me thinking is how much it's going to change the game for obesity and health issues. I mean, 17% weight loss in 64 weeks is insane! 🀯 How does that work? Is it because you can just take it on an empty stomach with water without any hassle? πŸ’§ Does that make a difference? And what about all those people who are waiting for Eli Lilly's drug to come out? Are they going to get left behind? πŸ€”

just heard about this new pill version of Wegovy 🌟 so hyped! i mean, who doesn't want to take a pill instead of getting shots every month? plus, the prices are pretty reasonable, that's a big win for people struggling with weight issues πŸ’Έ 17% weight loss in 64 weeks is no joke, sounds like it could be a total game-changer for obesity treatment πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ i'm curious to see how this plays out and if other companies follow suit πŸ’ͺ

🀯 gotta say, this is a major game changer! finally, someone brings weight loss meds to the masses not just rich folks like Ozempic πŸ€‘. $25 a month is insane low for ppl with insurance, that's like a free lunch lol. and it's not just about lose weight, it's about reducing cardiovascular risks too, which is a huge deal. I'm loving this development, can't wait to see more GLP-1 meds on the market 🀞

πŸ€” You know I've been around for a bit, seen my fair share of weight loss trends come and go... but this one has me hopeful 🌞. I think it's fantastic that Novo Nordisk is making Wegovy pills more accessible to people who need them most. The prices may not be super low, but considering the standard injection price was already on the higher side πŸ’Έ, this is a win in my book.

I've got friends and family members struggling with weight loss, and it's always been a challenge to find a medication that works without causing too many side effects πŸ€•. The fact that Wegovy pills have shown such promising results in clinical trials gives me confidence that they'll make a real difference for people.

Of course, this is just the beginning πŸ’ͺ. More options are needed, and I'm curious to see how other companies like Eli Lilly respond with their own GLP-1 drugs πŸ€”. But for now, I think Novo Nordisk has done the right thing in making Wegovy pills more widely available πŸ‘.

omg i just found out about this new pill for weight loss 🀯 and i'm like totally stoked! so basically it's the same thing as ozempic but in pill form? that sounds so much easier than taking shots every week πŸ˜‚. i remember my aunt trying to lose weight a few years ago and she had to take some kinda medication for a year or something. can you imagine having to do that every day? πŸ€ͺ anyway, the prices seem pretty affordable though, like $25 a month? that's nothing compared to what they charge for ozempic shots πŸ’Έ. do u think this pill will actually work for ppl who are really overweight? and how much weight can u expect to lose with it? πŸ€”

πŸŽ‰ OMG, this is such awesome news!!! I mean, think about it, no more needles every week πŸ–‹οΈ! People can finally just take one pill a day and be on their way to losing that extra weight πŸ’ͺ! And the best part? It's so much cheaper than those injections 😊. Like, $25 a month for people with insurance? That's like, super affordable πŸ’Έ! I'm so down for this! People deserve to have access to weight loss meds without breaking the bank πŸ’–! This is gonna be huge for obesity awareness and getting people on track with their health goals πŸš€πŸ’«

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW BREAKTHROUGH IN WEIGHT LOSS THERAPPIES!!! 🀩 Wegovy pills are finally here and it's a GAME CHANGER! I mean, who doesn't want to lose a little weight or just feel more comfortable in their own skin? And the best part is that Novo Nordisk has made this medication more accessible to people with commercially-insured plans - $25 a month is NOT BAD AT ALL! πŸ’Έ But let's be real, we all know that health comes first and taking care of ourselves should always be a priority. I'M HOPEFUL THAT MORE AND MORE DRUGS LIKE WEGOVY WILL FOLLOW SUIT SO WE CAN GET TO THE ROOT OF THIS OBESITY PROBLEM 🀞

The US FDA has approved a pill version of Wegovy πŸ™Œ! This means that people who are struggling with obesity can now take a daily pill instead of getting shots πŸ’‰. The cost of the pills is way cheaper than the injections, which is amazing news for those who need this medication but can't afford it πŸ’Έ. It's also promising to see that Novo Nordisk has made this version more accessible by reducing the commercial cost πŸ“ˆ. Now we just have to wait and see how the Eli Lilly pill version works out... fingers crossed it's as effective! πŸ‘

I'm so excited about this news! I mean, who doesn't love being able to take their meds like normal people do? I feel like we're finally joining the 21st century with these pill versions of weight loss meds 🀣. But seriously though, it's awesome that Novo Nordisk is making Wegovy more accessible to people. The prices are still a bit steep for me, but $25 a month is basically pennies compared to what I've been paying out-of-pocket πŸ˜‚. And let's be real, who wouldn't want to lose 17% of their weight in just 64 weeks? That's like gaining a whole extra pair of jeans πŸ’•. Kidding aside, it's great that Eli Lilly is working on its own GLP-1 drug. We need more options in the market! This pill version is definitely going to make a difference for people struggling with obesity and related health issues 🌟
