Windows 11’s ability to resume Android apps on your PC is getting closer

Microsoft is gearing up to enhance the Windows 11 feature that allows users to pick up where they left off on a PC by resuming Android apps from their mobile device. The software giant first introduced this functionality last year, enabling users to resume OneDrive sessions on their Android device on a Windows 11 PC.

Now, Microsoft is expanding this feature to support more applications, including Spotify and web browsing. The improved cross-device resume support is part of the latest Release Preview update to Windows 11 that began rolling out yesterday.

Users will be able to resume their Spotify playback session on their PC from their mobile device, as well as continue any work they were doing in Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Additionally, users can also pick up where they left off with an Edge browsing session started on their phone on a Windows 11 PC.

This feature is similar to Apple's Handoff, which allows users to resume tasks across Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Microsoft first announced its cross-device resume support for Windows 11 at its Build developer conference last year and also had a similar app handoff feature in Windows 10, known as Project Rome.

The improved cross-device resume support is imminent, thanks to the latest Release Preview update. In addition to this feature, the update also includes enhanced MIDI 2.0 support on Windows 11, voice typing improvements, and fingerprint sensor support for Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS).

this is so cool! i've been using windows 11 and it's awesome how i can pick up my spotify playlist on my pc from my phone 🎶. and now it's getting even better with more apps supported like microsoft office and edge browsing 📊. i wish apple would do something similar with their handoff feature, but i guess that's just the difference between windows and mac for us android users 😂. i'm also excited about the midi 2.0 support and fingerprint sensor integration - it's going to make windows 11 even more seamless and secure 🔒.

I'm so over how far behind Android devices are from PC users when it comes to seamless app resume... 🤦‍♂️ I mean, come on, Apple's Handoff has been a thing for ages, why can't Google catch up? Microsoft is trying to close the gap with this feature, but it's still not native to Android. Can't wait to try it out though, Spotify playback sessions will be a game changer 🎵

This cross-device resume thingy is pretty cool, I guess... I mean, who doesn't love being able to pick up where they left off on their PC or mobile? It's like having a digital lifeline, right? 🤔 But, I'm not sure if it's really going to make a huge difference for me. I already use Spotify on my phone and PC, so resuming playback is no big deal. And, honestly, sometimes I think it just slows down my workflow instead of speeding it up... but hey, maybe that's just me being old-school 😅.

It's also kinda interesting how Microsoft is catching up with Apple on this front. Project Rome in Windows 10 was a decent start, and now they're taking it to the next level. But, at the same time, I'm not sure if we need all these fancy features... sometimes simplicity is just better, you know? 🙃

This cross-device resume thingy got me thinking... How easy is it to get caught up in multitasking and distractions? I mean, we're so used to being able to pick up where we left off on our devices, but does that just create a false sense of convenience? It's like we think we can just seamlessly switch between tasks without actually focusing on anything. But what if the next thing you wanna do requires your full attention? Do you really want to be jolted back into reality when you're in the middle of something else?

I guess what I'm saying is, while this feature might seem cool, it's also a reminder that we need to be mindful of our priorities. Are we really using our devices to enhance our lives, or are we just getting sucked into a world of distractions? 🤔💻

just had to switch from my android to windows 11 laptop and it's so cool to be able to pick up where i left off 😌! but can we talk about how frustrating it was when it didn't work like that last year? i mean, microsoft is finally catching up with apple on this one 🙏. now it makes sense why they introduced the release preview update - i'm guessing a lot of people are using their phones and laptops together so it's nice to have seamless transition between devices 💻. btw, anyone else having issues with spotify resuming playback on windows 11? 🎵

I'm so stoked about this new update! 🤩 Resumeing apps from your mobile device to PC is like a dream come true, you know? I mean, who hasn't had that frustrating moment when you're in the middle of something on your phone and then have to pick it up again on your PC? It's so annoying! 😩 But now, with this new feature, you can just resume where you left off, no matter which device you're using. It's like having two brains or something! 💡 And it's not just about Spotify and Microsoft Office, it's also web browsing, which is a huge deal for me because I'm always on the go and need to stay productive while I'm doing things on my phone. This update is giving me so much more flexibility and freedom to be productive, no matter where I am or what device I'm using! 🙌

omg i cant believe microsoft is finally making windows 11 cross device resume thingy a reality!!! its been out for like year now and im still using it to pick up my one drive sessions on android but now theyre adding spotify and web browsing???? thats like the dream come true! can u imagine being able to listen to your favorite podcast on pc or continue reading article on edge browser from where you left off on ur phone?? its gonna make life so much easier!!! 🤩📱

I think it's so cool that Microsoft is taking this cross-device resume thing to the next level 🤩. I mean, who hasn't gotten a random thought in their head while on public transport or something, only to get home and realize they need to pick up where they left off on their PC? It's like having a personal productivity sidekick, but better!

The fact that Spotify is now part of this feature is a total game-changer 🎵. I've been stuck in a podcast for hours while working out, only to get home and realize I need to pick up where I left off on my PC... it's like, come on Microsoft, you gotta make this happen! 😂

And yeah, the whole Apple Handoff thing is cool too 📱, but let's be real, this is Microsoft we're talking about. They're the ones who are going to take it to the next level with their own unique twist 💻.

omg I'm so hyped about this new feature!!! 🤩 it's like having my school work/school assignments resume automatically on my pc when I switch from my phone lol just imagine being able to pick up where you left off in a difficult essay or math problem 📝🧠 and then just continue working on it without any hassle...Microsoft is like totally changing the game here! 🎮

🤔 so yeah, I think it's awesome that Microsoft is finally catching up with Apple on this cross-device resume thing. I mean, who doesn't want to be able to pick up where they left off on their Spotify playback session or a work doc in Word? It's like, you're already stuck on your phone, why not just get back to what you were doing on your PC? 😊

But at the same time, it feels like we've been waiting for this feature for ages. I remember when Microsoft first announced Project Rome, and that was supposed to be similar, but never quite got there. So fingers crossed that this Release Preview update actually delivers on its promises. 🤞
