Woltemade hot streak continues as Newcastle rise high to knock out Spurs

Newcastle Stuns Spurs in Carabao Cup Thriller, Howe Delighted with Performance

Thomas Frank's Tottenham side walked into the stadium with the prized Carabao Cup trophy on display, but it seemed to have little effect on their team's morale. Meanwhile, Newcastle United were fueled by a renewed sense of purpose, determined to retain the trophy and continue their impressive form.

Eddie Howe's side played with great zeal and a hunger for victory, as if driven by their recent Wembley triumph in March. The 4-3-3 system they employed proved effective in creating overloads down the flanks, catching Spurs off guard with one full-back temporarily shifting into a back three. The midfield dominance was spearheaded by Sandro Tonali, who consistently marshaled control of the game.

However, it was Fabian Schär who rose to power and headed home the opening goal for Newcastle after Antonin Kinsky failed to clear the cross. This early lead was soon doubled as Nick Woltemade capitalized on an unfortunate misunderstanding between Spurs defenders, heading in Joe Willock's beautifully dinked cross.

Spurs struggled to find their footing against a resolute Newcastle defense, with Richarlison and Lucas Bergvall failing to test Aaron Ramsdale in goal. The Brazilian forward did, however, have the ball clip the crossbar in the first half, although ultimately, it was not enough to spark a Spurs revival.

As the game progressed, Newcastle continued to press for more goals, but their forwards were unable to capitalize on opportunities. The hosts were left with a slender one-goal lead at the interval, and Spurs' hopes of a comeback seemed increasingly remote.

The visitors made several changes at halftime, including Joelinton's introduction off the bench, where he was fortunate to avoid a red card following a reckless tackle on Mohammed Kudus. However, it was Newcastle who maintained their grip on the game, with Schär's goal remaining the only score of the match.

In the end, Spurs were left feeling disappointed and frustrated after a game that had slipped away from them. For Howe and his team, however, this victory is just another step in their quest for glory, as they continue to build momentum under their experienced manager.

omg u guys cant believe what i just saw on the match 😲! Newcastle literally destroyed Spurs 4-0!!! like how did that even happen? their defense was straight fire 🚒 and I'm loving every minute of this, esp after those losses last year. Howe's team is for real right now 🤩, they're so organized and Sandro Tonali is on another level 🙌! btw, did u see the replay of that first goal? it was like a masterclass from Schär 😎

🤔 Still can't believe how well Newcastle played last night, they really showed Spurs who's boss! Their 4-3-3 system was pure genius, Sandro Tonali was a beast in midfield and Fabian Schär's goal was just the icing on the cake. 😎 It's clear that Eddie Howe knows his stuff and is getting the best out of his players. The way they dominated possession and created scoring chances was impressive, even if they didn't capitalize on them all. 🙃 Spurs just couldn't seem to get going, Richarlison's miss was a huge opportunity wasted... 👎 still loving this newcastle resurgence though! 💪

I was at the park with my dog yesterday and I saw a squirrel trying to steal food from other animals 🐿️😂. It's like they think they own the place! Anyway, back to football... did you see that goal by Fabian Schär? What a header! Reminds me of when I was playing soccer in school and we used to have those epic games where one team would score a million goals 🏟️😆. My dog loves chasing after balls too, but he's not very good at catching them...

I'm loving this! I mean, come on, 4-3-3 system? That's genius! They totally outplayed Spurs and deserved the win. Sandro Tonali was on fire 🔥, marshaling control of the midfield like a pro! And Fabian Schär's goal was pure class 😎. Spurs just couldn't keep up with Newcastle's pace. Aaron Ramsdale was on his game too 👏, keeping those shots out. I'm so hyped for Howe and the lads, they're really building momentum now 🚀. This win is a testament to their team spirit and determination 💪. Bring it on!
