A Fatal Stabbing in Bed-Stuy: Investigation Focuses on Grandson as Suspect
Tragedy struck a Brooklyn family late Tuesday night when an 85-year-old woman, Julia Boomer, was found stabbed to death inside her home. Her body was discovered by her daughter, who had made the distressing call to 911 after discovering her mother's critical condition.
According to authorities, paramedics rushed Boomer to Kings County Hospital, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter. Detectives are now in the process of reviewing the circumstances surrounding the attack and have taken the victim's 22-year-old grandson into custody. While charges against him remain pending, investigators believe he may have acted during a psychotic episode.
The young man had been acting erratically earlier that day when his mother attempted to take him to a court hearing regarding their child. The couple was said to be arguing about custody arrangements at the time of the incident.
A resident of the building where Boomer lived, Ali Mohamed, expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy. "I feel very bad," he stated. "A family should protect the older person."
The death of Boomer marks a grim milestone for the 79th Precinct, which has seen only one homicide this year so far. According to NYPD data, homicides in the precinct have remained steady over the past two years, with eight reported cases each in 2024 and 2025. Nationally, however, there has been a significant decline in homicides this year, with citywide rates falling by more than 20% compared to the previous year.

the idea that this 22 yr old dude was acting erratic cuz he got taken to court with his mom is just wild 
like what kinda stress can lead to something like this? 
and its so sad that a whole family is dealing with this traumatic loss 
i hope the investigators find out what happened and bring some closure to this family ASAP

This is such a sad story... I keep thinking about what must have happened that night. A psychotic episode can be really scary for people to deal with - did the family know about their grandson's mental health struggles beforehand? 
The fact that he was acting erratically earlier that day and they were arguing about custody arrangements makes me think there might have been some tension between them... but I guess you never really know what's going on in someone's head until it's too late 
but honestly it's just so frustrating that this had to happen again in Bed-Stuy, a neighborhood already dealing with its own set of problems 
like what's going on with families nowadays? where does love go wrong?
