AIPAC Donors Flood Last-Minute New Jersey House Pick With Cash

In a shocking move, influential donors from the Israel lobby have poured tens of thousands of dollars into New Jersey's 11th Congressional District special election, helping moderate Tahesha Way gain ground in the competition against Tom Malinowski. This unexpected push comes as the election draws to a close.

According to an analysis by The Intercept, at least 30 donors associated with American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) groups, including its super PAC and pro-Israel advocacy organization Democratic Majority for Israel, have chipped in over $50,000 towards Way's campaign. Just last week, DMFI officially endorsed her.

The move is an unusual one from the lobby, which typically campaigns against progressive candidates who are vocal critics of Israel policy. Instead, they're backing a moderate like Way to challenge Malinowski โ€“ a former lieutenant governor and more progressive on issues related to Israel.

However, this pro-Israel boost comes at the expense of Malinowski, who has been the subject of AIPAC ire due to his lack of progressiveness on Israel policy. Despite receiving significant spending from AIPAC's super PAC, United Democracy Project, which spent over $2.3 million on ads against him, the ads themselves did not mention Israel.

The group claims its goal is to build a bipartisan pro-Israel majority in Congress, and they argue that several candidates in this race are far more supportive of Israel than Malinowski. The statement did not address Malinowski's voting record on key issues.

Way, meanwhile, is running on a platform focused on fighting President Donald Trump's agenda while advocating for strengthening the Affordable Care Act and protecting democracy and voting rights. She has also received backing from several prominent New Jersey organizations but lacks significant fundraising strength compared to her opponents.

This unexpected move highlights the influence wielded by AIPAC in US politics, particularly when pitting more progressive candidates against moderate ones.

omg u guys I just read this crazy news about the election in NJ ๐Ÿคฏ so there are these rich donors from Israel who are basically bankrolling Tahesha Way's campaign and now she's gaining on Tom Malinowski ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I mean i know he was getting a lot of cash from pro-Israel groups but i didn't think they were gonna actually support someone more moderate than him ๐Ÿค‘ it's wild that AIPAC is trying to build a bipartisan pro-Israel majority in Congress, like what even is the point of that ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ anyway Way seems like she's got some cool ideas on healthcare and voting rights but I don't know if it's enough to take down Malinowski ๐Ÿค”

just wow ๐Ÿคฏ! i'm loving this twist in the election ๐ŸŽ‰. it's crazy how influential donors from the Israel lobby are throwing their weight behind Tahesha Way ๐Ÿค‘. and to think that AIPAC typically campaigns against progressive candidates who speak out against Israeli policy ๐Ÿค”... now they're backing a moderate like Way ๐Ÿ™Œ! meanwhile, Tom Malinowski is getting slammed with ads ๐Ÿ“บ, but no Israel mention ๐Ÿ˜. it's all about building a bipartisan pro-Israel majority in Congress ๐Ÿ’ฏ. way to keep things interesting in the NJ 11th Congressional District ๐Ÿค!

omg just saw this ๐Ÿคฏ so it looks like the Israel lobby is trying to support a moderate candidate tahesha way over tom malinowski and i gotta wonder why ๐Ÿค” especially since most of these donors are from AIPAC groups that usually campaign against progressive candidates who aren't super pro-Israel... maybe they're trying to build a bipartisan majority in congress? idk but this is definitely a surprise move ๐Ÿ’ธ https://theintercept.com/2024/08/23...ate-in-election-against-progressive-opponent/

๐Ÿค” this is crazy! i mean, who would've thought that a pro-israel lobby group like AIPAC would be backing a mod candidate like tahesha way over the more progressive tom malinowski? ๐Ÿค‘ it's like they're trying to create a bipartisan pro-israel majority in congress ๐Ÿค. what's their goal here? are they just trying to keep an eye on malinowski or is there something more going on? ๐Ÿค” also, $50k from AIPAC donors is no joke ๐Ÿ’ธ. way better than the $2.3m that united democracy project spent against malinowski ๐Ÿค‘. i guess this shows how much influence these groups have in politics ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I'm low-key shocked that the Israel lobby is backing a mod like Tahesha Way over Tom Malinowski ๐Ÿคฏ. I get what they're trying to do - build a bipartisan pro-Israel majority - but it feels weird that they're supporting someone who's not exactly on their A-list of 'strongest supporters'. Malinowski may not be super progressive, but he's no Israel hawk either ๐Ÿ˜. And what's with the lack of transparency about his voting record? It's like they want to sweep all this under the rug ๐Ÿคซ. I just wish we had more info on how this is gonna play out in terms of policy ๐Ÿ’ธ. Way's platform is fire, but will she be able to stay true to her values if she gets a taste of power? Only time will tell ๐Ÿ‘€

lol is this real life?! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I mean, who would've thought that pro-Israel donors would be backing a mod like Tahesha Way? ๐Ÿค” It's all about building a bipartisan majority, right? ๐Ÿ’ธ But what does it say about the state of politics in NJ? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Anyone got thoughts on this one? ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿค” I'm not surprised to see AIPAC throwing their weight behind Tahesha Way, especially considering how polarized the election is going to be. It's all about building that pro-Israel majority, right? I mean, it's a bit unexpected for them to support someone like Way, who doesn't exactly scream 'progressive on Israel policy'. But hey, you gotta respect their ambition and willingness to play both sides - even if it means biting the bullet on ads against Malinowski. Still, this whole thing feels a bit off, considering AIPAC usually doesn't get involved in moderate candidates. Guess that's just the game they're playing now... ๐Ÿค‘

This whole thing got me thinking - sometimes the most powerful voices aren't those who shout the loudest ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ, but those who quietly support a cause from behind the scenes ๐Ÿ’ธ. The Israel lobby's move to back Tahesha Way might seem like a strategic play, but it also highlights how even the most unlikely allies can make a difference when we work together towards a common goal ๐Ÿค. It's a reminder that our influence is often more subtle than we think, and that's what makes it so powerful ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Maybe we can all learn from this to look for ways to use our unique voices and strengths to amplify the causes we care about ๐Ÿ’ช?

What's good fam? So I'm reading this and I'm like, totally surprised that the Israel lobby is throwing their weight behind Tahesha Way, a mod candidate running in NJ's 11th CD ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, you'd think they'd be all about taking down progressive opponents, but instead they're trying to help her take down Tom Malinowski ๐Ÿ‘Š. It's like, they want a bipartisan pro-Israel majority in Congress and they're willing to make some unconventional moves to get it ๐Ÿ’ธ.

But here's the thing, this move feels like a calculated risk for AIPAC. They know that Malinowski isn't exactly progressive on Israel policy, so by backing Way, they're hoping to take him out and strengthen their own hand in the election ๐Ÿค‘. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, especially since DMFI just endorsed her last week ๐Ÿ’ช.

One thing's for sure, though - this highlights just how influential the Israel lobby is in US politics ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ. They're not afraid to throw money around and make some unexpected moves to get what they want ๐Ÿ’ธ. It'll be fascinating to see how this all shakes out come election day ๐Ÿ”ฎ!

๐Ÿค” I'm low-key surprised that AIPAC is supporting Tahesha Way over Tom Malinowski, considering Malinowski's more progressive views on Israel policy. It feels like they're trying to create a middle ground or something? ๐Ÿค‘ But at the same time, it's cool to see them using their influence to push for a bipartisan pro-Israel majority in Congress. The thing is, I don't know if this is gonna help Malinowski or hurt him more... ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm loving this unexpected twist in the NJ 11th Congressional District special election ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, who would've thought that AIPAC, typically all about backing super conservative pro-Israel reps, would come out swinging for a mod like Tahesha Way? ๐Ÿ˜‚ This tells me they're not just trying to keep progressive candidates at bay, but actually thinking they can win with someone on the center-left. I'm curious to see how this plays out - does this sudden shift in strategy mean AIPAC is open to some bipartisan cooperation or are they just playing politics as usual? ๐Ÿค” Either way, it's fascinating to watch and I'll be keeping a close eye on this one! ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm kinda surprised about this one ๐Ÿค”. Like, I get that AIPAC wants to build a bipartisan pro-Israel majority, but backing Tahesha Way seems like a long shot, right? ๐Ÿค‘ She's running on a platform that's pretty far left compared to Malinowski, and now she's getting a big boost from the Israel lobby? It's like they're trying to flip the script on progressive candidates being anti-Israel ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm curious to see how this plays out in the election, tho ๐Ÿ“Š
