Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery of Fresh Produce to 1,300 New Areas
In a significant move, Amazon has announced that it will now offer same-day delivery of perishable food items to over 1,300 new cities and towns across the country, bringing its total service area to more than 2,300 locations. This expansion includes major cities such as Boise, Salt Lake City, Fort Collins, Omaha, Des Moines, and many others.
The e-commerce giant has been rapidly expanding its same-day delivery capabilities, with this latest move being part of a broader strategy to disrupt the grocery delivery market. Amazon introduced this feature earlier this year and it has proven to be highly successful, allowing customers to order fresh produce alongside other non-perishable items like electronics and books.
To ensure that perishables arrive in optimal condition, Amazon employs a specialized temperature-controlled fulfillment network. This network involves delivering groceries in insulated bags at no cost for Prime members, provided the order exceeds $25. For non-Prime members, the delivery fee stands at $13 per order.
According to Amazon, fresh groceries already account for nine out of the top ten most-ordered items for quick delivery, indicating a significant demand for convenient access to fresh produce. This trend is particularly evident in cities where Amazon has recently expanded its same-day delivery service, with Whole Foods products being incorporated into the offering.
As Amazon continues to expand its same-day delivery capabilities, it solidifies its position as a major player in the grocery delivery market, rivaling services like Instacart and Walmart+. The company plans to further enhance its offerings in 2026, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to bring fresh groceries directly to customers' doorsteps.
