I mean, think about it - 250 years and the flag's meaning has been all over the place

We're so caught up in celebrating our independence that we forget about all the other people who have lived here too

The Native Americans, African Americans, immigrant communities... their stories are just as important as ours
I'm not sure about this whole "new heritage" thing

it sounds like they want to erase the past and start fresh

but that's just gonna leave us with a bunch of empty symbolism

οΈ Instead of trying to rebrand American exceptionalism, why don't we just try to be honest about our history?

We can acknowledge the good, the bad, and the ugly
I mean, think about all the times the flag has been used in ways that are super problematic

like during the Civil War or with those Chinese immigrants on Angel Island

It's not just a matter of rebranding, it's about understanding the complexities and contradictions of our history
We need to start telling more stories that reflect our diversity

not just the traditional narrative of American exceptionalism

That way, we can build a new narrative that's more inclusive, nuanced, and just
