Ariana Grande Set for London Stage Debut in Sunday in the Park With George
Pop sensation Ariana Grande is joining forces with actor Jonathan Bailey to bring Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park With George to the Barbican Centre in London this summer. The highly anticipated production, directed by Marianne Elliott, marks Grande's long-awaited London theatre debut.
Based on the life of 19th-century pointillist Georges Seurat, Sunday in the Park With George tells the story of two artists: one inspired by Seurat and his great-grandson. Bailey will reprise his role from a previous production, while Grande will make her stage debut as Glinda, playing alongside other unknown cast members.
Elliott's direction was previously seen to critical acclaim with her revival of Company in 2018, earning several Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Bailey. This summer, Grande is set to embark on the Eternal Sunshine tour, performing at the O2 Arena in London from May.
Designs for Sunday in the Park With George will be handled by Tom Scutt, who previously worked on the revival of Sondheim's Into the Woods at the Bridge Theatre in London. Further casting announcements are expected later this year, with tickets set to go on sale in May. The show marks a reunion between Bailey and Grande, who previously starred together alongside fellow musical castmates in Wicked.
