As their midwinter slump goes on, what exactly is going wrong at Manchester City? | Jamie Jackson

Manchester City are in their midwinter slump. The team's inability to affect the fortunes of the game is a mystery, even to manager Pep Guardiola. Since New Year's Day, City have struggled with injuries and missed chances. This has led to zero league wins in 2026.

In the match against Bodø/Glimt, Rodri appeared as a player still recovering from injury. His energy levels were low, and he was unable to run midfield like he could before his injury. Similarly, Erling Haaland's form has suffered with only one goal in eight games since January 7th. The Norwegian striker is known for scoring goals, but it seems like he's hit a wall.

Guardiola seemed petrified by City's tameness, unable to effect the fortunes of the game despite his efforts. When asked about the team's performance, he grasped for explanations, citing injuries and a lack of chances as reasons for the defeat. The manager is usually more confident, but this time he seems at a loss.

Phil Foden, one of City's key players, played more like a shadow of himself in the match against Bodø/Glimt. He was substituted at half-time due to his poor performance. Foden has 10 goals and four assists this season, but it seems like he's going through an off spell. The team needs him to perform better if they're going to be competitive.

However, there is some good news for City fans. Signing Marc Guéhi, a first-choice England defender, will prove a coup if he can replicate his performances for Crystal Palace. With Guéhi and Abdukodir Khusanov forming the middle of the rearguard, City may be able to cover for the prolonged absence of Josko Gvardiol and Rúben Dias.

It's clear that City need to get their players back to form as soon as possible if they're going to compete with other top teams in the league. The midwinter slump is a wake-up call, and Guardiola needs to find a way to get his team out of this rut.

I'm not surprised by Manchester City's struggles, tbh 🤔. They've been relying too heavily on Haaland and Foden for ages, and now that they're underperforming, it's like the whole team is holding its breath 🤯. And don't even get me started on Rodri... I mean, come on, he's not exactly known for his defensive skills 😒.

It's like City are just going through the motions at the moment. Guardiola's words are all well and good, but actions speak louder than that 💬. They need to shake things up and get their players back to form ASAP or they'll be left in the dust 🔥. And yeah, signing Guéhi is a decent move, but it's not gonna fix everything... City's still got some major problems to solve 🤷‍♂️

omg i feel like citys midwinter slump is kinda relatable to our school's sports team rn 🤦‍♀️ we were all having a rough patch last month too after exams finished 📝 and everyone was exhausted but now we're finally back on track ⏱️ and winning matches again 💪 so maybe Pep just needs some time to get his squad back together? 🤔

Ugh, man 😩 Manchester City are really struggling right now... They're like, losing games left and right 🏆😵. I mean, Pep Guardiola's usually super confident, but even he seemed kinda lost after that loss against Bodø/Glimt 🤔. It's not just the injuries, though - they're missing those big goals from players like Haaland ⚽️ and Foden 👟. City really need to shake this slump ASAP or they'll get left behind 😬. But on a positive note, signing Guéhi seems like a game-changer 🤩... fingers crossed he can bring some stability back to the team! 💪

I'm tellin' ya, there's somethin' fishy goin' on at Manchester City 😏. I mean, they've had injuries and all that, but it feels like it's more than just that. Pep Guardiola seems really stumped about the whole thing, and I think he's tryin' to cover somethin' up 🤐. Like, what if Rodri's injury isn't just an injury? What if there's somethin' else goin' on with him that we don't know about? 🤔

And then there's Erling Haaland, who's suddenly lost his mojo ⚽️. I mean, the guy's a goal-scorer, what's goin' on? Is he bein' held back by the club? Are they hidin' somethin'? I don't know, but it feels like there's more to this than meets the eye 🔍.

I think City need to get to the bottom of these issues, 'specially if we wanna compete with other top teams. We can't just blame injuries and lack of chances, somethin' else is goin' on here 🤔.

I'm so down for Manchester City right now 🤕. I mean, they're one of the best teams in the world, but it's clear that they're struggling with injuries and not scoring enough goals ⚽️. Even Pep Guardiola seems kinda lost 🤔. It's like he's trying to force things to happen instead of just letting his players play their game.

And Phil Foden, oh man... I love watching him play, but right now he's just not on 🔥. He needs to get back to form ASAP if they're gonna compete with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea ⚽️. But, like you said, signing Marc Guéhi could be a game-changer 🤞. Fingers crossed that City can get their mojo back and make a run for the title 💪!

I think Manchester City's struggles are like me when I'm trying to write an essay at 2 AM - they're just not clicking 🤯. I mean, you have the best manager in Pep Guardiola, and then suddenly the players start dropping like a stone ⬇️. Rodri, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden... they're all talented, but when they're off form, it's like trying to write with a pen that's run out of ink 🖋️. The good news is that signing Marc Guéhi could be the spark City need 🔥. But seriously, City fans need to get behind their team and remind them that they can turn this around 💪. It's not over yet!

🤔 I mean, Pep's losing his cool, but fair play, who wouldn't be when you're stuck with a team that can't string two wins together? 😂 Rodri and Haaland are like the odd couple - one's still recovering from injury, and the other's just not scoring. It's like they're trying to make City look like the struggling newbies in the league 🙅‍♂️! But seriously, Foden needs to snap out of this funk ASAP, or City will be left eating defeat for breakfast 🍴👀

😔 I'm worried about Manchester City's current form... They've been struggling since New Year's Day 🤕. Injuries and missed chances are definitely not the only reasons for their slump though 🙅‍♂️. They need to find a way to break out of this midwinter rut ASAP ⏰. Guardiola seems frustrated, but I think he can turn things around 💪. The addition of Marc Guéhi could be just what they need, though 👍. Foden's off form is a concern too 🤔... let's hope he gets back to his best soon! 😃

😬 City's current struggles are super concerning 🤕 They've been one of the top teams in the league for years, but now they're having an identity crisis 💔 It's not just injuries, they're also missing their creative spark 🔥 The team's midfield is looking stagnant, and Foden's form is a major concern 🤦‍♂️ He's such a key player, and it's sad to see him playing like this 😔

But on the bright side, signing Guéhi could be a game-changer 🔄 I mean, he's an England defender who can bring some much-needed depth to their defense 👍 If they can get that trio of Guéhi, Khusanov, and Dias back together, City might just be able to shake off this slump 💪

The question is, what sparked this midwinter slump? Was it a team issue or just a case of too many big-name players struggling with form? 🤔 Either way, Guardiola needs to get his team back on track ASAP 🔙

OMG 🤯 I'm starting to think that Pep's tactics are off 💔 City needs more creative playmaking from Phil Foden ASAP 🕰️ His form has been so inconsistent lately, it's like he's lost his mojo 🔮 We need him back to scoring and creating goals ASAP ⏱️ Meanwhile, Marc Guéhi signing is a game changer 😎 If he can perform at the same level as for Palace, City's defense will be solid 🔒 The team needs a wake-up call and fast ⏰

I feel like Manchester City are having an identity crisis 🤔... They've lost their spark since New Year's Day, and it's affecting not just the results but also the players' confidence. Rodri, Foden, and Haaland all seemed off form against Bodø/Glimt, and you can tell Pep is worried 😬. But on the bright side, Guéhi joining the team could be a game-changer 💪... if he can replicate his performances at Palace. The good news is that City have depth in their squad to cover for injured players like Gvardiol and Dias. Still, they need to get back to winning ways ASAP or risk being left behind by their rivals 😬

🤔 you know what's crazy? these "midwinter slumps" we go through in life, like our energy levels or motivation... sometimes it feels like the whole world has turned against us 😩. but here's the thing: it's not just about the team, or the players, or even the manager 🤷‍♂️. it's about ourselves. what are we doing to take care of ourselves when things go downhill? eating well? exercising? getting enough sleep? 🛏️

and then there's the importance of finding new solutions 🔍. just like how Marc Guéhi can bring a fresh perspective to City's defense, we need to look at our own lives and find ways to break out of this rut 😃. maybe it's trying something new, or seeking help from someone who can offer a different perspective 🤝.

the point is, life isn't always easy ⚔️, but that's when we get to choose how we respond 🔊. do we let the struggles define us, or do we use them as an opportunity to grow stronger 💪?

man... i feel like we're witnessing the perfect example of how momentum can slip away from us 🤯 think about it, city were on top of their game just a few months ago but now they're struggling to even break through 😩 what's more concerning is that pep guardiola himself seems lost for words... it's not like he's never faced setbacks before, so why is this one hitting him so hard? 💔 and yeah, phil foden's form has been meh lately too 🤷‍♂️ but the thing is, we can't just wait for everyone to come out of their shells, we need city to find a way to overcome these obstacles as a team 👊

I don’t usually comment but I think City need to be more realistic about their expectations for the rest of the season 🤔. They're not going to win every game, especially with all the injuries they've had. But at the same time, it's a bit concerning that they've struggled so much since New Year's Day 📆. I don't know if Guéhi will be able to make a difference but he's definitely worth trying out right? 😊

🤔💡
im think pep guardiola need rethink team strategy 🔄
maybe give foden more freedom to roam on pitch? 🌐
or try new formations? 📈
we need see more creative playmaking from phil 👍
and haaland, come back strong like 🔥
zero league wins in 2026 🚫
not good for city fans 😔
but signing guéhi is step in right direction 🚀
let's hope new signings make difference 💪

.. I mean, City's struggles are really puzzling 🤔. They've got some top talent like Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, but they just can't seem to click together on the pitch right now ⚽️. Guardiola usually stays calm under pressure, but even he looks a bit lost this time around 😬. It's not just one player having an off game, it's the whole team that's struggling 🤦‍♂️. They need to get their key players back to form ASAP or they'll be left behind by the competition ⏱️. Maybe signing Guéhi will help shore up the defense and give them some confidence 😊. Either way, City fans are just hoping for a turnaround soon! 👍

I'm low-key loving how Manchester City are struggling 🤷‍♂️. I mean, they're one of the most dominant teams in the league for years now, and it's about time they faced some real competition 😏. They've been so used to getting results that they need a wake-up call. It's refreshing to see Pep Guardiola looking clueless on the sidelines - maybe he should try something new? 🤔

And let's be real, Rodri and Erling Haaland are having a bit of an off spell 😴. But you know what? Maybe they're due for a resurgence 🔥. And Phil Foden's struggles just add to the narrative that they need to get their players back on form ASAP 💪.

But seriously though, signing Marc Guéhi could be a game-changer if he can deliver on his promise 🎉. It'll be cool to see City's defense come together and give them an extra boost in the midfield. And who knows, maybe this midwinter slump is just what they needed to reboot and get back to their winning ways 🔓.

🤔 think city need to work on squad depth, can't rely on same players all the time, maybe bring in more options for midfield & defence. also, gotta say Erling's goal drought is worrying, he's usually a machine when it comes to scoring goals 🚨...city fans are getting restless 😬...guess only time will tell if they can turn it around 💪

I feel for the City fans right now 🤕 Manchester City's struggles are like a punch to the gut. One minute they're on top of their game, the next they're struggling to even create scoring chances. Injuries are one thing, but it's like the team's lost its mojo 💫. Guardiola's usual calm demeanor is missing, and it's hard not to wonder if he's getting a bit worried 😬. I mean, 10 goals and 4 assists from Phil Foden this season? That's what got City into the top spot in the first place 🤔. We need to see that spark back ASAP 🔥 And signing Marc Guéhi could be just the boost they need 👍
