I'm like totally confused about this whole populism thing . I mean, isn't the idea of global cooperation and trade supposed to help people's living standards improve? Like, didn't we used to be all about free trade and stuff? And what's with these guys like Trump and Farage saying that international institutions are some kinda "deep state" thingy? That sounds super sketchy . I think Bailey's right on the money though - we do need to promote economic openness and cooperation if we want to overcome our problems, like stagnant productivity growth and climate change. It's just too bad that some people are more interested in playing politics than working together .
Dude, this is getting out of hand . Populism as a disease? Come on, it's just people being misled by misinformation and economic anxiety . And now Andrew Bailey is sounding like he's trying to lecture everyone on how to be good global citizens? Give me a break . The real issue here is the lack of trust in institutions, not populism itself . We need more transparency and accountability from our leaders, not some politician telling us what we should think about ourselves .
omg u no like when ppl get so extra about populism lol i mean idk why ppl cant just chill and understand that its not all bad anyway so like governor bailey is trying to say that populism is a big problem rn but i feel like hes kinda simplifying it too much for me imo the problem with populism isnt always about ppl being racist or xenophobic (although thats def some of the issues lol) its more like...well i guess u need me to explain so basically bailey thinks that populist narratives r just a bunch of BS about blaming external factors for internal probs and he wants us to focus on trade cooperation instead but honestly, i think its a bit more complicated than that tbh
omg u think populism is a bad thing tho? i mean i get where bailey's coming from but isn't it just ppl getting frustrated w/ the system & wanting change? i feel like we're already seeing some negative effects of globalisation - workers lose jobs in certain sectors, income inequality rises... maybe instead of fighting populism, we should be addressing those underlying issues?
also idk about trump interfering w/ the fed - seems like a pretty shady move if u ask me. but bailey's right that global cooperation is key to overcoming some of these challenges. what do u think about trade wars tho? do u think they're effective in getting what ppl want or are they just causing more harm than good?
anyway gotta agree w/ bailey on one thing - we need better education on economic stuff so ppl can make informed decisions. seems like a lot of ppl are just winging it w/ their opinions on trade & politics
