Ugh, can you believe this is happening again? I mean, I remember when Black History Month was first started back in the 80s, it was all about celebrating the struggles and achievements of African Americans. It wasn't always easy, but we knew how important it was to keep their stories alive.
Now, it feels like people are trying to erase that history altogether? Like, what's wrong with acknowledging our past mistakes and learning from them? I'm so tired of hearing that some folks think Black History Month is "too sensitive" or that it's not "relevant" anymore. Give me a break!
I love that there are still people like DeRay Mckesson and Angélique Roché out there fighting for the truth. And Jarvis Givens' book sounds like a must-read! It's crazy to think that we need to train a new generation of Black historians, but I guess that's what's happening now.
I remember when Opal Lee was still alive, she used to talk about how important it was to keep Juneteenth alive. Now, with this graphic novel and all the other efforts, I feel like we're finally getting there!
