Child struck by Waymo near elementary school near Los Angeles

Man, this thing is really making me think about our relationship with technology... 🤯 Like, we're at a point where self-driving cars are becoming a normal part of our lives, but have we really thought about how safe they actually are? I mean, a 17 mph car hitting a kid who's just suddenly on the road... it's crazy. And yeah, Waymo says their brakes worked fine, but what if the system misreads the situation or something? It raises so many questions about accountability and responsibility in this whole autonomous thing.

And you know what really gets me is that we're expecting these cars to be perfect, like they're going to save us from ourselves. But at the end of the day, there's no such thing as a completely fail-safe system. We need to have real conversations about how we're designing and testing these things, and whether or not they can actually prevent accidents in the first place.

It's also interesting that this happened near an elementary school... it makes me wonder if parents are even thinking about what their kids would do in a situation like that. Like, we need to educate our kids about how to interact with self-driving cars, just as much as we're teaching them about traffic rules and stuff. It's a lot to consider, you know? 🤔

omg what a crazy situation! 🤯 waymo needs to step up their testing protocols - i mean who lets a kid just run into traffic like that? 😱 even at 17mph it's still way too fast for a playground. and now we're dealing with some serious questions about liability here... is waymo going to be held responsible for this or will the parents be sued? 🤔 it's gonna be a long road for waymo if they get found guilty of something like this.

Man, can't believe what's happening in this world 🤯... I mean, self-driving cars are supposed to be the future of transportation, but accidents like this just make me go "back in my day..." we didn't even have seatbelts on our own cars and we were lucky to not get hurt. Now these cars can talk and drive themselves, but they still can't keep up with kids 🤦‍♂️. I'm all for innovation and technology, but come on! How hard is it to program a car to watch out for little humans crossing the road? It's just so frustrating 😤. And now my grandkids are gonna grow up thinking that autonomous cars are invincible... not cool 👎.

Ugh, this is so worrying 🤕... I mean, I get why they're trying to test those self-driving cars, but come on! A child just walks out into the road without looking? That's gotta be super hard for parents to deal with right now 😩. And 17 miles per hour is still pretty fast, you know? Even if it did slow down quickly, I'm not sure how much damage it can really do at that speed 🤔. What I think Waymo needs to consider is having better systems in place to detect kids like that, ya know? Like sensors or something 📦. And what's with the kid just walking into traffic like they own the place? 😒 Anyway, gotta keep an eye on this investigation and see if any changes come outta it 💡.

🚨 That's so worrying, a self-driving car hitting a kid 🤕! You'd think the tech would be super reliable at this point but apparently not. I mean, it's California, where all these tests happen, but still... what were the parents doing? Keeping an eye on that one kid when they're supposed to be watching the others too?! 🙄 It's a good thing the injuries are minor, but still, how can we trust these cars with our kids' lives?

I'm not saying Waymo is entirely at fault (they did report it and cooperate), but what were they testing for? Was it really worth putting that kid in harm's way?! 🤷‍♀️ And now NHTSA's gotta figure out what went wrong... 🚗😬
