Danny L Harle: Cerulean review – an earnest homage to early 00s bangers or a poor imitation?

Danny L Harle's Cerulean is an album with two distinct identities: its credentials as a high-profile collaboration-heavy effort, and its actual artistic content. The former is undeniably impressive – featuring an all-star guestlist that includes Clairo, Caroline Polachek, PinkPantheress, MNEK, and more – but the latter is where things get murky.

In an attempt to distill his influences down to a singular aesthetic, Harle has opted for a bold but misguided approach. Cerulean is unapologetically retro, channeling the same cheesy pop-trance beats that dominated BBC Radio 1 in the early 00s and have since become synonymous with the Eurodance scene of yesteryear. However, this is presented with an air of seriousness that borders on the pretentious.

The album's lead single, "Azimuth," featuring Caroline Polachek, is a prime example of Harle's approach – a collision course between pop-trance and gothy hard rock that feels like a hastily cobbled-together winner. It's a curiously incongruous blend of styles that sounds more like a Soviet-era Eurovision entry than a genuine artistic statement.

Harle's tracklist is peppered with similarly baffling choices, from the beatless instrumentals to the 75-second Clairo-pushed track that awkwardly segues into cinematic strings. It's all so...flimsy – lacking any semblance of genuine pop hooks or memorable melodies to make these productions truly sing.

Cerulean's ultimate appeal will likely lie with those who nostalgically recall the era when Cascada, Kelly Llorenna, and the Trance Nation compilations ruled the charts. For everyone else, it's an album that veers wildly between sugary intensity and grating, over-the-top pretentiousness – a messy amalgamation of influences that fails to cohere into anything meaningful.

Ultimately, Cerulean feels like an earnest but misguided attempt at paying homage to the pop-trance of Harle's youth. While it's undeniably interesting as a curiosity, its very earnestness makes it difficult to appreciate on any deeper level.

omg i just listened to danie l harles cerulean and like i love clairo but omg this album is so messy 🤯 i mean dont get me wrong the guestlist is insane 🎉 but seriously danie u need 2 take a step back from ur influences 🙅‍♂️ this eurodance vibe r hard 2 pull off especially with that gothy rock thing rn its like u r trying 2 be edgy but rn it jus sounds forced lol also what s up w th beatless instrumentals ?? who listens 2 music w out a beat ?? 😂

🤔 I mean, I love Danny L Harle's style, but this album feels like a greatest hits collection for his teenage self... and honestly, I'd rather hear that teenage version of him now than the grown-up one trying too hard to be edgy 🙄. It's all just a bit too much - the over-the-top beats, the pretentious synths, the whole "I'm a visionary" vibe that's just cringeworthy 😩. I get what he's going for, but it feels like he's more focused on impressing his fans than actually creating something new and interesting 🎶. And don't even get me started on those instrumentals... 😴 who thought beatless tracks were a good idea? 🙄

omg I'm so with you on this album review 🙄💔 #CeruleanIsUnderwhelming Cerulean feels like Danny L Harle trying way too hard to recreate the Eurodance magic of his youth 🕺💃 but honestly it just doesn't land #RetroRevivalFeelsForced The production quality is fire, no cap 🔥, but the songwriting and cohesion are where it falls flat #CeruleanFallsShort I mean I love a good nostalgic throwback as much as the next person 🎶, but sometimes less is more, you know? #LessIsMore

I'm still not sure why Danny L Harle thought it was a good idea to go all out retro on his latest album... 🤔 I mean, I love the nostalgia trip vibes as much as the next person, but come on! Cerulean feels like he's trying too hard to be a nostalgic throwback instead of making something fresh and new. And don't even get me started on the production quality - some of those beats are cringeworthy 😂...

idk about danny l harle's cerulean tho 🤔... album's got some iconic collabs but the actual sound is just kinda meh 🎵. he tries to bring back that eurodance vibe but it feels so extra and pretentious 🙄. like, i can see why people who grew up in the 00s will love it but for everyone else, it's just a bit of a mess 🎶. the production is all over the place and there aren't really any memorable hooks or melodies 🎵. might be worth a listen if you're into that kinda thing but for me, it's just an album that doesn't quite come together 💔.

omg u guys i'm so here for danny l harle's cerulean album lol its like a time capsule of early 2000s pop trance 🕺🏻🔥 but idk man the guestlist is fire tho clairo and caroline polachek on one track alone is a win 💯 still dont get what he was goin for with the sound though it feels like a mixtape from his teenage bedroom 😂 if ur into that retro vibe its def worth a listen but for everyone else its like an acquired taste 🤔

🤔 I gotta say, Danny L Harle's go for a super retro vibe on Cerulean is kinda cool, but it feels like he took some questionable decisions in the process. Like, who thought adding cinematic strings to a 75-second Clairo track was a good idea? 🎵 It sounds like a weird highlight reel of his influences rather than a cohesive artistic statement.

The problem is that all these different styles and influences don't really mesh together well, you know? It's like he's trying to cram too many different tastes into one album. And then there are the guest features – I love Clairo on "Azimuth" as much as the next person, but it feels like she's just there for show.

For a fan of 2000s pop-trance like me, Cerulean is all about taking me back to my childhood – in a nostalgic kinda way. But if you're looking for an album that actually holds up, I'm not so sure...

omg i just listened 2 danny l harle's cerulean & im lowkey disappointed 🤔🎵 i get dat he wanted 2 pay homage 2 his influences but like, c'mon dan lol u took some wild turns w/ that beatless instrumental tho 😂 and clairo's track on azimuth is just so awkwardly segued into cinematic strings 🚧 i guess if u r a child of the eurodance scene in the early 2000s its gonna b ur jam but 4 me, its jst too much @ times 💥

idk why harle thought he could just blend all these styles and make it work 🤷‍♂️. album sounds like a greatest hits collection of his old faves but with none of the charm. not sure who's gonna enjoy this except maybe those who still rock out to eurodance in their cars 💨. feels like a waste of talented artists involved too 🎵

omg I'm so confused about Danny L Harle's new album Cerulean 🤯 I mean, who thought it was a good idea to combine pop-trance beats with gothy hard rock? 🤪 and the guest list is like whoa but it feels like he just threw all his influences together without thinking it through 💡 like what happened to the songwriting? 🔊 I'm not hating on Caroline Polachek or anything, but "Azimuth" sounds like a total mess 😂 does anyone else feel like this album is just one big nostalgia trip for people who grew up in the early 2000s? 🕰️ what's the point of making music that's trying to be something it's not? 🎶

I'm not buying it... 😒 Danny L Harle's Cerulean is supposed to be this bold statement about his influences, but honestly, it just feels like he's trying too hard to fit into a specific era of pop-trance music without really understanding what makes it tick in the first place. I mean, who thought 75-second tracks were a good idea? 🤔 It's all just a bit too on-the-nose for my taste... not even the all-star guestlist can save this album from feeling like a nostalgia-fueled mess. Sources needed to back up some of these claims, though...

I gotta say, I'm kinda disappointed with Danny L Harle's new album Cerulean 🤔. He's got some amazing guests lined up, but when you strip away the hype and just listen to the music...it feels like he's trying too hard to recreate the past instead of forging something new 🔥. The beats are super nostalgic for anyone who grew up in the early 2000s, but it feels kinda shallow on an artistic level 🎶. I love Clairo's feature on "Azimuth" tho 💖, that song's fire 🔥!

🤔 i gotta say, danny l harle's latest album cerulean has some major identity crisis vibes 🎶. like, the guestlist is on point and all that but...the music itself feels super watered down 🌊. it's trying to be retro but comes off as kinda try-hard 🤣. i mean, who thought beatless instrumentals were a good idea? 🙅‍♂️ and clairo's track that suddenly turns into cinematic strings is like, what even is that? 😳. for me, cerulean will always be the album that had some cool singles but ultimately fell flat because it just didn't have enough depth 💔.

I don't think we should be too hard on Danny L Harle for trying to make an album that pays tribute to his influences. At the end of the day, art is subjective, and what one person sees as pretentious, another person might see as nostalgic and charming 💕. It's also worth considering that even if Cerulean doesn't entirely succeed in cohering into a meaningful artistic statement, it still showcases Harle's ability to bring together talented musicians from different genres. What's important is how we respond to the music – do we appreciate its imperfections, or do we dismiss it?

omg i love danny l harles music in theory 🤩 but cerulean is like a super confusing puzzle that just doesn't click for me 😐 his attempt to blend pop-trance with gothy hard rock sounds like a weird mashup of genres that don't quite work together 🎶 the single "azimuth" featuring caroline polachek is def a vibe but the whole album feels like he's trying too hard to be retro cool 💁‍♀️ meanwhile, clairo's track on the album is literally 75 seconds and it just ends 😱 i'm all for nostalgic vibes in music but cerulean feels more like a nostalgic trip that doesn't quite land 🌊

omg this album is giving me LIFE!!! i love how danny l harle collabs with all these amazing artists 🤩🎶 but yeah idk about the whole retro vibe...like clairo's part in "azimuth" is SO GOOD 🤩 but then it just kinda meh afterwards? idk maybe im just too invested lol anyway cerulean is def a solid listen even if its not my fave

I'm so down for this album 🤩... wait, no I don't think I am 😒. I mean, who needs actual musical depth when you can just throw a bunch of nostalgic references and pretentious production choices together? It's like Danny L Harle is trying to prove he's cool again because it's the 00s all over again 🤪... but honestly, I'm kinda vibing with that retro vibe 😎. The lack of genuine pop hooks is actually kind of genius – who needs catchy melodies when you can just make everyone cringe? 💀

idk about danny l harles latest album cerulean... it feels like he's trying way too hard to be edgy and cool just because his mates are on the tracklist 🤷‍♂️. i mean, who thought it was a good idea to put beatless instrumentals and 75-second tracks with clairo? it's like he's not even listening to what people want from music anymore 😒. and don't even get me started on the "azimuth" single - it sounds like something you'd hear at a mid-2000s eurovision party, but without the charm or charisma 🎉. i think harle needs to take a step back, reevaluate what he's trying to achieve with his music, and focus on creating something that's actually genuine and meaningful 💭

🤔 I gotta say, I'm kinda torn about Danny L Harle's new album Cerulean 🎵. On one hand, the guestlist is straight fire 🔥 and features some amazing talent. But, on the other hand, I think Harle went a bit too far with the retro vibes 🕺 - it feels like he's trying way too hard to be nostalgic and cool 😎.

I mean, have you listened to "Azimuth" featuring Caroline Polachek? It's like, what even is that song? 🤔 The blending of pop-trance and gothy hard rock sounds kinda forced, you know? And don't even get me started on the instrumentals - 75 seconds without a beat? What's up with that? 😩

I think Cerulean is more interesting as a throwback to Harle's past than anything else. It's like he's trying to recapture the magic of his youth, but it doesn't quite work out in practice 💔.
