Dennis Allen saved his best for last — but Bears need more help on D

Bears' Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen Saved Best for Last, But D-Line Remains a Concern

Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has faced his fair share of challenges this season, but his impressive performance against the Los Angeles Rams in Sunday's game was certainly a welcome respite from the woes that have plagued his unit. With the team nursing injuries to several key players, including cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon, Allen's ability to adapt and make plays on defense has been a revelation.

Allen blitzed Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford 37% of the time, resulting in two sacks from defensive backs, which further highlighted the Bears' opportunistic approach on defense. The team forced punts on six of their next seven possessions after the Rams scored on their first drive of the game, showcasing Allen's ability to adjust his strategy mid-game.

While praise from Rams coach Sean McVay was certainly a boost for Allen and the Bears, it also served as a reminder that they still have significant work to do in addressing their defensive line. Despite Montez Sweat's impressive 10 sacks, the team struggled to find consistent pass-rush talent behind him. Austin Booker had a solid season with 4.5 sacks in nine starts, but other edge rushers failed to make an impact.

The Bears' injury woes were particularly pronounced at linebacker, where all three starters went on injured reserve at some point during the year. The team will need to find ways to get its key defenders healthy and on the field for next season if it hopes to build upon Allen's impressive defensive performances.

As General Manager Ryan Poles acknowledged, "there's a lot going on [at defensive line], just in terms of, we had some injuries going on that you have to overcome." The team will need to find creative solutions to address these issues and give Allen the support he needs to continue producing at an elite level. As for Allen himself, his mantra of "creating a meal" with limited ingredients remains relevant as he looks to build upon this season's success.

"We try to figure out what are the skillset of the players that we have available to us — try to put them in positions to be able to do the things that they do well," Allen explained. "And each week that might change based on who you have available to you." With some added depth and health at defensive line, Allen may finally get the support he needs to take his team to the next level.

I'm loving how coach Dennis Allen is killing it this season 🤩🏈! The way he adapted mid-game and got that blitz on Matthew Stafford was pure genius 💡. I mean, two sacks from DBs? Talk about opportunistic! 😂 But for real, the Bears still have some major issues at D-line... like, Montez Sweat's 10 sacks ain't gonna solve everything 🤔. They need to find those other edge rushers who can step up and support Allen. And with all those injuries last year... I don't know how they're gonna keep their key defenders healthy next season 🤞. But hey, coach Poles is working on it, so fingers crossed!

🤗 I'm loving how Dennis Allen is bringing that fire to the Chicago Bears' defense! 🌟 But let's talk about the DL situation - it's like they're playing musical chairs, with key players coming and going all season 🚫. With Montez Sweat being a beast, it's crazy they can't find consistent talent behind him 😂. It's time for GM Ryan Poles to get creative and find those hidden gems 💡! And Allen is totally on point with his "creating a meal" analogy - if they just give him the right ingredients, he'll be unstoppable 🍴💪. Let's hope next season brings some stability to that DL! 😊

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s really interesting how Dennis Allen is able to make the most out of his players despite the injuries 🤔. Like, Montez Sweat had an amazing season with 10 sacks and it's cool that Austin Booker stepped up too 💪. But at the same time, it feels like they’re missing a piece in their defensive line, you know? They need to find some way to keep those edge rushers healthy and fresh for next season 🤞. And I love how Ryan Poles is acknowledging the issues and trying to figure out creative solutions 💡. If they can get that support from the front office, Allen might finally be able to take his team to the next level 📈👏

I'm loving how Dennis Allen is stepping up as the Bears' DC, it's like he's been saving the best for last 😊. But seriously, their D-line is still a major concern, especially with all those injuries they had. Montez Sweat was on fire with 10 sacks, but the guys behind him just weren't getting the job done. I'm also feeling them on the linebacker situation, it's like they're having to play musical chairs out there 🤯. They need to find some creative solutions and get their key players healthy so Allen can keep making those magic plays on defense 💪. Maybe with some added depth and health, Allen will finally be able to create that "meal" he's always talking about 🍴.

oh man 😮 i was thinking the same thing about d-line 🤔 they need to find some consistency behind montez sweat 🤝 allen is doing an amazing job adapting mid game 💡 but seriously, it's a concern 🙏 injuries are tough but i think the bears can get creative with roster moves 🔄 maybe trade for some edge rushers 🔥 or develop young talent 🌱 all in all, allen's defense has been on point 👍 but next season is gonna be crucial 💯

I MEAN COME ON DENNIS ALLEN IS A GENIUS OR SOMETHING!!! HE TOOK THIS BEARS D-LINE AND TURNED THEM INTO A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH!!! 37% BLITZ RATE IS CRAZY AND THOSE TWO SACKS FROM DBS WERE A GAME CHANGER!!!

BUT SERIOUSLY, THE BEARS NEED TO FIX THEIR DL PROBLEMS FOR REAL. I MEAN MONTEZ SWEAT IS DOING GREAT BUT THEY CAN'T RELY ON JUST HIM. AND AS FOR AUSTIN BOOKER, HE'S OKAY I GUESS BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO SAVE THE TEAM ALONE.

AND INJURIES TO KEY PLAYERS ARE NO JOKE EITHER. JAYLON JOHNSON AND KYLER GORDON CAN'T EVEN BE ON THE FIELD HALF THE TIME IT SEEMS LIKE. THEY NEED TO GET THEIR DEFENSEERS HEALTHY OR ELSE THEY'LL BE LUCKY IF THEY MAKE THE PLAYOFFS NEXT YEAR.

I'M SO EXCITED FOR DENNIS ALLEN THOUGH!!! HE'S THE REAL MVP RIGHT NOW AND I LOVE HOW HE'S ADAPTING HIS STRATEGY MID-GAME. MAYBE THIS IS THE TURNING POINT FOR THE BEARS D-LINE AND I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!! 🤩

I gotta feel for Dennis Allen, man... he's been dealing with injuries all season and still manages to make plays 🤯! But yeah, D-line is a major concern - you can't have all your eggs in one basket (or in this case, one sack artist 😂). Montez Sweat's doing his thing, but the rest of the unit needs some serious depth. Maybe they'll find some creative solutions to get their defenders healthy and on the field next season 🤔? It's gonna be a tough one for Allen to repeat this kind of performance without some support from the front office... fingers crossed!

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they can make a case for having a solid D-line when it's basically just Montez Sweat getting most of the sacks 🤔. I mean, Austin Booker was solid in his 9 starts but that's not exactly a lot of time to build on. And yeah, injuries are a killer - it's like they're just throwing their best players under the bus and hoping something sticks.

The Bears' D-line is still a concern, lol 🤔. They gotta find ways to get those edge rushers consistent passes... 💥. 10 sacks from Montez Sweat is awesome, but it's not like they have a whole team of elite pass-rushers. 😐

man I remember when the Bears had Mike Singletary playing middle linebacker for them... those were the days! 🙌 They could shut down any opposing running back with ease. Nowadays it feels like they're trying to juggle too many different pieces on defense and it's hard to get a clear look at their true strength. I'm still holding out hope that Dennis Allen can figure out this D-line thing, though... he seems like the kind of guy who's going to will his team to victory no matter what 😊

man I'm still trying to wrap my head around this Bears season 🤯 they've got this awesome DC Dennis Allen but the D-line is like a puzzle with missing pieces lol its not fair to the rest of the defense that they gotta carry the load all by themselves especially when you're dealing with injuries to key players like Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon 🤕 but on the bright side, Allen's been making some smart adjustments and getting creative with his blitzes which is always exciting to watch 🎥 its time for GM Ryan Poles to go on a shopping spree and bring in some fresh talent to bolster that D-line so they can finally start playing like a cohesive unit 💪

omg, denis allen is like a superhero 🦸‍♂️! i mean, the guy's gotta be getting some kinda award for being able to make plays on defense with that unit being so injured 🤕. 2 sacks from defensive backs? whoa 🤯. and he did it all while adjusting his strategy mid-game like a total pro 💡. but seriously tho, the d-line is still a major concern 🚨. montez sweat's got some serious skills but they need to find more pass-rush talent behind him. fingers crossed for next season when they can get those key defenders healthy 🤞. allen's gonna need all the support he can get if he wants to keep taking his team to new heights 💥

🤔 I mean, Dennis Allen's got skills for real! The way he adapts and makes plays on defense is insane 💥. But, like, seriously though, the D-line is still a major concern 🚨. You can't just rely on Montez Sweat to carry the team on his back. They need some actual depth at that position or they're gonna be in for a long season 😬. And don't even get me started on the injuries 🤕... it's like, how are you supposed to build a solid defense when you've got three starters going down with an injury? It's gotta be tough for Allen and the team to figure that out 💡.

I don't think its all doom and gloom for the Bears D-line 🤔... Dennis Allen's performance has been a highlight of the season so far, but injuries are just part of the game 🤕. I mean, teams like the Rams always seem to find ways to adjust and come back strong 🔄. And let's not forget Montez Sweat is having an amazing year with 10 sacks - that's definitely worth building on! 💪 However, it's clear that Allen needs some more talent behind him to take his team to the next level ⚒️. Maybe they can find some hidden gems in free agency or the draft? 🤞

I'm still shocked that Montez Sweat is putting up 10 sacks despite their other edge rushers being so underwhelming 🤯🏈. I mean, can't they just find some talented young pass-rushers to fill out the depth chart? It's like they're expecting Allen to carry the entire defense on his back, and that's not sustainable for one guy no matter how brilliant he is 💪🔥. They need to invest in building a deeper D-line or risk getting exposed by more efficient offenses next season 🚨💥

🤔 Dennis Allen is literally like a magician with defense lol he takes nothing and makes it into gold 💃. I don't care about the D-line situation, he's got this 🙌. The fact that they're forced punts on 6 of their next 7 possessions after scoring is a testament to his genius 💡. We should just give him more players and let him work his magic 🔮. And honestly, it doesn't matter who's injured or not, as long as he's making plays like that 2 sacks from defensive backs? 🤯 what a game-changer. I mean we need to get our O-line in order first but that's a different story 💪

man i'm so done with all these injuries 🤕 the bears are just like those teams back in 2018 when they had a bunch of key players go down midseason it was always so frustrating watching them struggle on defense, but at least that year they were able to make some decent moves in free agency and sign some veteran defenders to shore up their line 🤑 now if they can just find some consistency behind montez sweat...i mean, 10 sacks is awesome, but what's the point if you're not getting any other pressure? 😏
