Emma Raducanu withdraws from United Cup tie against Naomi Osaka as GB start campaign

Emma Raducanu's Australian Open preparations have taken another hit as she withdrew from her United Cup tie against Naomi Osaka on Monday, citing a minor foot issue. The British number one was struggling to be fully fit and did not want to risk making the situation worse ahead of the upcoming Grand Slam event in Melbourne.

Raducanu had been building up to the Australian Open with coach Francisco Roig but felt it was too early for her to return to competition, team captain Tim Henman explained after the GB's 2-1 win against Japan. The British number one has not played since October and was forced to pull out of two exhibition matches in the United States last month due to a similar issue.

Despite Raducanu's absence, Great Britain managed to secure a hard-fought victory over Japan, thanks to Billy Harris earning a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 win against Shintaro Mochizuki and Katie Swan beating Osaka in the women's singles. The team will now face Greece in their other Group E tie on Monday.

Raducanu has struggled for form and fitness since winning the US Open in 2021 but showed signs of improvement, completing 50 matches for the first time in her career last season. She is currently ranked 29th in the women's rankings.

Henman praised his team's spirit and work ethic, saying: "The spirit has been so good since we arrived in Perth." He also urged his players to enjoy the challenge and compete for every point.

I'm feeling a bit sorry for Emma Raducanu πŸ€• She's been working hard to get back into shape but it seems like injuries are still a major setback for her πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. It's not easy being a top player in tennis, you're always pushing yourself to be better and sometimes your body just can't keep up πŸ’ͺ. I hope she takes all the time she needs to recover because it's clear that rushing back could make things worse ⏰.

It's still great to see Billy Harris and Katie Swan doing so well for Great Britain though! πŸŽ‰ They're like a little slice of British tennis heaven on the court 😊. And I love how Tim Henman is keeping things positive, reminding his team to enjoy the challenge and compete with every point πŸ’ͺ. That's what it's all about - having fun while chasing your dreams 🌟.

πŸ€” So Emma Raducanu is out of her own tournament? That's a shame! I feel bad for her, she was gonna be one of the top contenders at the Aussie Open... But I guess it's better to play safe now than risk making the injury worse and being out for longer πŸ€•. I mean, it's been ages since she last played, 50 matches is not bad at all! She should just focus on getting her fitness back up ASAP so she can make a strong comeback... And btw, Billy Harris' win against Shintaro Mochizuki was insane! 😲

Omg, Emma Raducanu is such a pro at taking care of herself πŸ€•πŸ’ͺ! Withdrawn from the United Cup tie due to a minor foot issue - totally get it, don't wanna risk getting it worse before the Australian Open πŸŽΎπŸ‘! Coach Francisco Roig has been with her since the beginning and I'm sure he's got her best interests at heart #TeamEmma.

It's def sad that she can't be fully fit for competition but I love how Tim Henman is keeping things positive, saying they're a "spiritual" team πŸ€—πŸ‘Š! The guys are doing so well without her too - Billy Harris and Katie Swan were on fire! Can't wait to see them take on Greece next πŸŽ‰πŸ‘. Hope Emma recovers soon and brings home some major wins at the Australian Open πŸ’₯ #AustralianOpen #EmmaRaducanu

πŸ€” Raducanu's withdrawal is a shame, but fair play to her for prioritizing her body over a tie. She's been working hard to get back fit and can't be blamed for not wanting to risk it all at this point. πŸ₯ It's still surprising she was even selected for the United Cup after that lackluster US Open performance... 29th in the rankings, yeah that's where she is πŸ˜…

Ugh, Emma Raducanu is really struggling with her foot again πŸ€•... I remember when she won the US Open back in 2021, people were so hyped about her potential, but now it seems like injuries are taking a toll on her career πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. It's sad to see, 'cause she has all the skills and talent, but consistency is key, you know? πŸ™

And, I mean, GB pulled off an epic win against Japan, kudos to Billy Harris and Katie Swan for stepping up! πŸŽ‰ But, it's weird that Raducanu just gave up on this one tie... maybe she was just trying not to risk making things worse before the Aussie Open? πŸ€”

Anyway, team captain Tim Henman seems like a great guy, always talking about teamwork and spirit, but I wish he'd help his players with their injuries more πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. We all know tennis can be brutal on your body, so maybe it's time for Raducanu to re-think her approach? πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ

Oh well, GB's still doing alright, and they've got Greece next 😊. Let's see how that one goes! πŸ‘

πŸ€• Hope Raducanu gets her foot sorted ASAP 🀞 - can't believe she was building up to Aus Open now 🌳😬 Team GB still looks strong though, let's see them take down Greece on Mon πŸ‘Š

I'm so bummed that Emma Raducanu had to withdraw from her United Cup tie... but at the same time, I kinda think she's being too cautious? Like, isn't it better for her to get back into competition and risk getting a minor injury now rather than waiting till after the Australian Open? πŸ€”πŸ‘£ But on the other hand, if she's not 100% fit, that could be even worse in Melbourne... ugh, decisions are so hard! πŸ™„

πŸ™„ guess raducanu just wanted to be a spectator for once lol 🎟️ she finally showed some signs of improvement after that US open win, but now it's all being ruined by a "minor" foot issue? come on! πŸ’β€β™€οΈ at least she's not the only one struggling with fitness... btw, 50 matches completed is kinda cute though 😊

.. think about it like this - we all got our own battles to fight on and off the court πŸ’ͺ. Emma's gotta be careful with her body, it's not worth risking injury when she's just getting back into form πŸ€•. We can't always control what happens to us, but we can take responsibility for how we react πŸ™. And I love that Tim Henman's focusing on the team's spirit - if we all support each other and give it our all, we can overcome even tough challenges together πŸ’•.

Wow 🀩🎾 Raducanu withdrawing from the match doesn't surprise me at all, a minor foot issue is no joke πŸ€•! I'm actually kinda worried about her form and fitness still... she needs to get back on track ASAP πŸ’ͺ interesting how GB managed to win without her though, Osaka looked pretty fierce πŸ˜…

Ugh, this is just what I expected... another injury setback for Emma Raducanu πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. I mean, come on, she's had a major foot issue before and now it's happening again? And she's still ranked 29th in the world, so I'm not exactly feeling optimistic about her chances at the Aussie Open. The fact that she's not even sure if she can play enough to make a difference is just a huge concern... πŸ€”

.. another foot injury from Emma Raducanu πŸ€•πŸ˜©. She was really building up her skills too, it's a shame she can't get back on court now. I mean, 29th in the world rankings is still pretty decent, but she needs to sort out her fitness issues ASAP if she wants to make an impact at the Aussie Open. 🏸🌴

The team did great without her though, gotta give 'em credit for that πŸ’ͺπŸ‘. Billy Harris and Katie Swan are looking strong, maybe they can carry the team's momentum into the Greece game on Monday πŸ€žπŸ•Ί. And good on Tim Henman for keeping everyone positive and focused - gotta love his motivational skills πŸ˜ŽπŸ’Ό

πŸ€” I'm thinking something fishy is going on with Emma Raducanu... Like, she pulls out of a match just as she's about to start playing again? It sounds too convenient if you ask me... Maybe it's not just her foot that's the problem? Could be some sort of injury cover-up or something πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. And what's with all these exhibitions matches in the States, just so they can make sure she's "fit" again? I don't buy it 🎯.

πŸ€•πŸžοΈ oh no emma raducanu withdrawing from united cup tie again πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ minor foot issue got her πŸ˜” but team GB still won πŸŽ‰ billy harris & katie swan rockstars πŸ‘ 50 matches in career is a big deal for emma πŸ’ͺ hopefully she gets back to form soon ⏰ not too much pressure on the Australian Open 🀞 coaching staff must be super supportive with franko roig 🀝

πŸ€” The thing is, Emma Raducanu's injury issues have been going on for ages now... I mean, she won that US Open title all the way back in 2021 🎾, but since then it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. I get what she's saying about not wanting to risk making things worse before the Australian Open, but it's also frustrating when you're trying to make a comeback and then... πŸ’” minor foot issue happens. Anyways, great job by GB's team in beating Japan, that was some intense tennis 🏸! Tim Henman's got some good words about his players' spirit, and I'm all for enjoying the challenge and going for every point πŸ’ͺ. The real question is, how will Raducanu bounce back from this? 🀞
