European football: Mbappé spot on to deliver first Real Madrid win for Arbeloa

Real Madrid finally broke their drought with a welcome 2-0 win over Levante, ending a turbulent week that had seen the team's confidence take a hit after consecutive defeats and off-field controversy.

Kylian Mbappé was the hero of the hour, scoring from the penalty spot in the 58th minute to extend his league tally to 19 goals, while Raúl Asencio sealed the victory with a powerful header in the 65th minute.

The win marked a much-needed turning point for Real Madrid, who had been facing intense pressure after being booed by their own fans at the Bernabéu Stadium before the match. The team's performances had been marred by inconsistency and self-doubt following the shock 3-2 Copa del Rey exit to Albacete.

Coach Arbeloa urged his players to focus on themselves and not get distracted by the opposition, saying "we'll get there". The Levante striker, Iván Romero, acknowledged that his team's attitude was good but admitted they couldn't replicate their performances from earlier in the season.

The win keeps Real Madrid second in La Liga with 48 points from 20 matches, just one point behind Barcelona who have a game in hand and visit Real Sociedad on Sunday. The result also marks a crucial step forward for Arbeloa's new tenure as head coach, who will be keen to build momentum before the team faces third-placed Villarreal next Saturday.

In other news, Inter Milan continued their dominance at the top of Serie A with a 1-0 victory over Udinese. Lautaro Martínez scored his eighth league goal of the season in the 20th minute, giving Inter their eighth win in a nine-game unbeaten league run.

The result keeps Inter top of the table on 49 points, six ahead of Milan and Napoli who lost 1-0 to Sassuolo.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund came from two goals down to snatch a thrilling 3-2 victory over St Pauli, courtesy of Emre Can's late penalty. The win extends Dortmund's lead at the top of the Bundesliga but keeps their title hopes alive.

In Ligue 1, Lens returned to the summit after Paris Saint-Germain were knocked off course by a battling 1-0 win over Auxerre. Wesley Saïd's second-half strike gave Lens their 10th consecutive victory in all competitions and restored their one-point buffer at the top of the table.

The weekend is shaping up to be an exciting one with several high-profile matches on offer, including Barcelona vs Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig.

omg u guys real madrid finally broke that drought lol it's been ages since they won a game & now kylian mbappé scores 19 goals in the league already 😲 i feel like he's gonna win the golden boot for sure but idk how much more his team can take with all the drama going on rn. coach arbeloa needs to sort out some things ASAP b4 it's too late they cant afford to slip up now. & u know what's even more annoying is that barcelona is just 1 point ahead of them 🤯 like what even is this? la liga is literally my favorite league rn

oh man, i'm so hyped for real madrid!!! 🤩 they needed that win so bad after all the drama they've been through lately 😬 kylian mbappé is literally a god on the pitch right now 🙌 his goal was insane and i'm loving raul asencio's header too 👏 coach arbeloa's got this team turning it around, gotta love the positivity! 💪 real madrid's momentum is back on and they're gonna keep fighting for that la Liga title 🔥

Omg 🤩 I'm loving this turning point for Real Madrid! They needed that win so bad after all that drama, you know? Mbappé is literally the king of the pitch right now 😎 with 19 goals in the league - he's got some serious skills! And Raúl Asencio's header at the end was like a sigh of relief for the whole team 🤗.

I think this win will give Real Madrid the confidence boost they need to take on Barcelona and stay in the title race. Coach Arbeloa's advice to focus on themselves is straight fire 🔥, and it sounds like his players are finally starting to come together as a unit.

But what I'm most hyped about right now is the Serie A drama unfolding! Inter Milan's dominance is insane 🤯, and Lautaro Martínez is on fire 🔥. Those 8 wins in a row? No one can catch him! 💪 Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund's comeback against St Pauli was insane 😲 - Emre Can's penalty save will go down in history!

And finally, Lens coming from behind to beat Auxerre is like the ultimate underdog story 🐺. I love how this season is shaping up to be all about surprises and comebacks! Bring it on 💥

just hope real madrid can keep this momentum going 🤞 after being booed by their own fans it's like they're trying to prove themselves all over again 😅 kylian mbappé is literally unstoppable right now 19 goals in the league already?!?! 🔥 what's next for arbeloa and his team?

I'm so glad Real Madrid finally broke that drought 🙌 they really needed a win like that to boost their confidence and shake off the negative vibes. Kylian Mbappé is just on fire right now 🔥 his goal was a perfect example of his clinical finishing skills. I'm not surprised they were booing their own fans at the Bernabéu, though - it's been a tough week for the team.

Arbeloa seems like a decent coach, but he needs to get those players working together better 💡 inconsistency is just so frustrating, and it's not just about Mbappé or any one player. Real Madrid are still in a great position in La Liga, though - they'll just need to keep their focus and momentum going 🔜

oh man i'm loving the resurgence of real madrid 🤩 mbappé's goal was like a sigh of relief for the team after that tough week they really needed this win to boost morale and confidence 💪 and it looks like coach arbeloa is on the right track with his tactics now 👍 the fact that they're still in the mix for la liga title with barcelona is impressive too 🔥 but that barca game next sunday better be ready 🔴👊

omg i just saw this lol real madrid finally breaking their drought after being in a slump for like forever 🤯 2-0 win over levante is sweet as can be but what really got me was mbappe's penalty goal in the 58th minute 💪 19 goals already this season? he's on fire! anyway, glad to see real madrid getting back on track and coach arbeloa seems like he knows his stuff 🤞

Ugh, what a week for Real Madrid 🤯! I mean, I know they're back on track now after that huge win over Levante, but it's crazy how far their team has fallen in just a few weeks 😳. And to think they were booed by their own fans? That's some serious pressure 💥. Coach Arbeloa needs to keep the players focused and motivated if he wants them to stay on top 🔝.

And can we talk about Kylian Mbappé for a sec? 🤩 The dude is on fire right now! 19 goals in the league? That's insane! 🙌 He's definitely worth every penny of that transfer fee ⏰. I'm loving how he's taking it upon himself to carry his team to victories 💪.

What do you guys think about Real Madrid's chances this season? Should they be considered contenders or are they still rebuilding? 😁

🏆😃 Just when u thought real madrid was done for 😩, they pull off a massive win 🎉 against levante! kylian mbappé is on fire 🔥 19 goals in the league already? 🔮👏 and raúl asencio's header sealed the deal 💪. coach arbeloa must be breathing easy now 😌. the pressure was immense, but they showed their strength 🤯. now lets see if they can keep it up 🎉

so glad to see real madrid getting back on track after that super tough week, i mean, 2-0 win over levante is a huge confidence booster for them 💪🏼. kylian mbappé is on fire right now! 19 goals in the league already? that's insane 🤯. and i love how coach arbeloa is keeping it simple with his "we'll get there" attitude, no drama just focus on themselves 🙏.

anyway, barca is still looking strong, just a game in hand behind real madrid, so we'll have to wait and see what happens this weekend ⚽️. and inter milan is dominating serie a as usual, laautaro martinez is a beast 🔥. borussia Dortmund's title hopes are still alive, yay! 🎉

So finally Real Madrid breaks that drought 🙌, it's about time right? I mean, 2-0 win over Levante is a good start, but let's not get too excited just yet 😏. Kylian Mbappé did score some nice goals though, and Raúl Asencio's header was a beautiful strike. But we need to see more consistency from the team, especially after that Copa del Rey exit 🤦‍♂️.

And I'm curious to see how Arbeloa's team will handle the pressure now that they're back on track 🤔. One point behind Barcelona is a big gap to bridge, but at least they have a game in hand 🙅‍♂️. The other matches this weekend look interesting too - can Inter keep their winning streak going? And Dortmund's title hopes are still alive? We'll see what happens 💪

omg u guys real madrid finally broke that drought 😂 they needed it so bad after those consecutive defeats and off-field drama. kylian mbappe was pure magic 💫 scoreing from the penalty spot in the 58th minute? that guy's a goal machine! 🤩 and raul asencio's header in the 65th minute was just icing on the cake 🍰 it's been a tough week for real madrid but i think they're finally back on track 💪

anyway, it's all good now 🙌 barca's gonna have to step up their game if they wanna stay ahead of real madrileño 🔥 and let's not forget about inter milan 🔴👑 they're still looking strong in serie a, but i think they'll get caught out by someone soon 😏

omg u gotta feel for real madrid, they were gettin so much heat from their own fans after those losses 😩🏆. but kylian mbappé stepped up & proved why he's the man 💥, 19 goals in the league already! 🤯 i'm lovin the way coach arbeloa's handling things too, keepin it simple & focusin on themselves 👍. now they're back on track & lookin to build momentum for their next matches 💪🏽. also, inter milan is killin the game in serie a 🚀, laautaro martinez is on fire 🔥! and borussia Dortmund's comeback win is just wild 😲, gotta keep watchin these top teams 👀
