Exclusive | United Airlines planes collide at LaGuardia: ‘We all felt a bump’

A dramatic collision of two United Airlines planes occurred on the tarmac at LaGuardia Airport, leaving 328 passengers and 15 crew members shaken but uninjured. Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene with emergency vehicles racing onto the scene.

The incident happened when a plane returning from Orlando clipped another jet's tail while attempting to taxi to its gate. Witnesses reported feeling a "bump" during taxi to the runway, only to discover later that it was another aircraft involved in the collision.

"I was sitting there, and then the captain says, 'There's another plane on the tarmac,' and I'm like, 'What? How could we not see that?'" said a passenger who wished to remain anonymous. The airline has confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details.

Both planes were forced to return to their gates, and all passengers disembarked without incident. Maintenance crews are now evaluating the damaged plane for potential malfunctions.

The collision occurred at a time when LaGuardia was already reeling from severe weather conditions, including intense winds of up to 45mph that had grounded several flights earlier in the day. Ground delays were widespread, with some planes facing wait times as long as five hours.

Meanwhile, air traffic control staffing shortages continue to plague airports nationwide, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warning of potential "disaster" if the government shutdown persists into November and beyond. The FAA is unable to comment due to the ongoing shutdown.

As the situation unfolded at LaGuardia, it served as a stark reminder of the risks facing air travelers during times of turmoil in the skies.

😬🚨 oh my goodness, can you even imagine being on that plane and feeling like it's gonna crash or something? like, what if those 2 planes didn't collide? 🤯 i'm so glad no one was hurt tho, that's the most important thing right now. 🙏 i feel bad for the passengers who were already dealing with weather delays and stuff, i mean can you imagine having to sit around for 5 hours waiting for a gate? 😩 anyway, let's hope the maintenance crew finds out what went wrong and fixes it ASAP so these kinds of incidents don't happen again 🚧💨

😱 328 ppl shaken but ok? what kinda airport are we living in 🤯?! Air traffic control staffing shortages and now this?! It's like they're playing roulette with our lives 🎲. What's gonna happen when it really matters? 😬 They need to get their act together, pronto! Airlines gotta be more careful too 🚫. And 5 hour wait times? Unacceptable! Need some more staff ASAP 💼. Can't believe they didn't see the other plane 🤔. I mean, what's going on at LaGuardia these days?! 😒

I don’t usually comment but... how crazy is this? I mean, can you imagine being on that plane and not even knowing there's another one right next to you? It's like something out of a movie. And with all the stuff going on with LaGuardia and the government shutdown, it's just one more thing to worry about. I feel for those 328 passengers who had to go through this. It's wild that they were all okay though 🙏. And what's up with air traffic control staffing shortages? Like, how are we supposed to trust the system if there aren't enough people in charge to handle things? 🤔

🤯 man what's going on here its like they say when life gives you lemons make lemonade or in this case when planes collide turn that into a lesson 🌼. think about it, we're always talking about safety and security but it seems like things can still go wrong even with all the protocols in place. its like we gotta be prepared for the unexpected and trust our instincts too I mean if someone tells you there's another plane on the tarmac u believe them right? 🤝 we need to stay vigilant and keep our wits about us especially when life gets crazy like during a government shutdown.

Omg what's gonna happen next 🤯?? Like seriously how do 2 planes just clip each other on the tarmac?! Sounds super sketchy 😬. I mean i feel bad for those passengers who were just chillin' on the plane and then suddenly BAM! "there's another plane" lol. And now maintenance crews are dealing with this mess, not to mention air traffic control staffing shortages... it's like, how can they even function properly?! 🤦‍♀️ Air travel is crazy enough without all these extra factors coming into play.

Ugh I was so stressed out just reading about that accident 🚨😱 LaGuardia Airport is already crazy enough with all those weather issues and now this? Like what even is going on?! And to think there were 328 people involved, it's a miracle nobody got hurt more seriously 💔. And can we talk about how air traffic control is failing us right now 🤦‍♀️? Staffing shortages are no joke, I don't need planes crashing into each other because of that 😩. This whole government shutdown thing is getting out of hand... let's just hope they figure it out before it causes any more damage ⏰.

🚨 just saw this crazy news about 2 planes colliding at LaGuardia Airport... like what were they even thinking? 🤯 I mean, you'd think with all the tech they have, they could avoid each other on the tarmac. But nope, it looks like human error is still a major issue in aviation. And to make matters worse, it happened during a time when LaGuardia was already dealing with severe weather and staffing shortages... 🌪️🚨

It's always a good reminder of how complex and unpredictable the air travel industry can be. I mean, you have these crazy storms that can ground planes for hours, and then you have staff shortages that can cause delays like this. It's not just about the airlines, it's about the entire system coming together to get passengers safely from point A to point B.

I'm glad no one was seriously hurt, but it's still a major wake-up call. We need to make sure our airports are equipped with the best safety measures in place, and that our air traffic controllers have the resources they need to do their job effectively. Anything less is just not acceptable 🚫

I'm still shaking my head about that crazy airport collision 🤯! I mean, how do you not see another plane on the tarmac when you're taxiing to your gate? It's just one big mess 🚨. And what's even crazier is that it happened during a time when LaGuardia was already dealing with severe weather conditions and staffing shortages. Like, how are we supposed to trust that planes are safe when things like this keep happening? 😕 I know the passengers were lucky to not have any serious injuries, but still... it's just so unsettling 🚫. Can't they do better than this? 💔

omg what a close call! 328 people shook but no major injuries? that's like a miracle 🙏. and to think they had to deal with those crazy winds and now this? airports are so understaffed already, it's only a matter of time before something serious happens. and the FAA being unavailable during the shutdown is just... ugh 😩. i mean, can't we get our priorities straight? air traffic control should be top priority, especially when it comes to safety 🚨. this is what i'm talking about - the risks are real and we need to take action 💪.

ugh this is like that scene from movie "Sully" where those planes almost crashed 🚨😱 but thankfully no one was hurt... still so scary to think about how close they were, like literally a bump on the taxiway could've been enough to cause an accident 😵 and now they're evaluating the plane for malfunctions... hope it's just a minor issue. gotta wonder what would've happened if air traffic control staffing shortages were gonna be a permanent thing 🤯😨.

😕 oh no, that's crazy! I can only imagine how scary that must've been for those passengers and crew members... feeling like you're in a movie or something. I'm just glad nobody got hurt though 😊 328 people is a lot, it's amazing they were all shaken but okay. What if there was an emergency? 🤯 And to make matters worse, LaGuardia was already having issues with the weather and staffing shortages... like, what's going on?! 😩 Air travel is supposed to be safe, you know? I hope maintenance crews can figure out what happened and get that plane fixed ASAP. Fingers crossed for everyone affected 🤞
