Gov. Shapiro on ICE operations in Minneapolis: 'It is time to terminate this mission'

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has made a scathing attack on President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, accusing them of orchestrating a violent and oppressive mission against the Minneapolis community. The remark was made during his appearance on "Good Morning America" Monday, where he also discussed his new memoir.

Shapiro believes that it's high time to terminate this mission led by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has been directed by Trump, Vance, and Noem to wreak havoc on the community. He pointed out that these actions are creating an unsafe environment and perpetuating racism.

The Governor emphasized that Good and Pretti were not a threat to law enforcement but rather innocent victims of unjustified violence. Shapiro highlighted his experience as Pennsylvania's former attorney general and is familiar with proper police procedures. According to him, the practices employed by ICE agents, including masking and racial profiling, are far from acceptable policing tactics.

In response to the recent killings, a group of Democratic senators have vowed to vote against the spending plan that includes funding for the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. Shapiro expressed support for a proposal led by Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada), which would pass five bills in the package but withhold funds for Homeland Security until an agreement can be reached.

By withholding these funds, Shapiro believes that he is making a crucial point: giving the president a blank check to undermine people's constitutional rights in cities. He emphasized that it's essential to hold those in power accountable and ensure that they respect the rights of all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

I feel really frustrated with what's going on in Minneapolis right now ๐Ÿค•. It's like these policies are being implemented without any thought for the people who live there. I mean, can't we just try to understand each other a bit more? Shapiro's comments made me think that maybe we need some middle ground here... like finding ways to address security concerns while also protecting everyone's rights ๐Ÿค. It's not an easy problem, but I think if we all sat down and talked it through, we might be able to find a solution that works for everyone ๐Ÿ’ก.

omg can u believe what shapiro just said?? he's literally standing up for the ppl of minneapolis ๐Ÿคฏ๐ŸŒŽ i feel like he's saying exactly wut needs 2 be said - these ppl r not a threat, they're just innocent victims bc of racist policies ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธICE & CBP r basically doing a lot of harm n it's high time we take action ๐Ÿ’ช shapiro's got experience as a lawyer n knows what's rite w/ the law ๐Ÿค“ he's not just bashing trump & co, he's advocating 4 accountability n protecting ppl's rights ๐ŸŒŸ

OMG what's going on with Josh Shapiro he's literally going HAM on Trump, Vance & Noem ๐Ÿคฏ! I don't blame him tho, ICE & CBP have been causing so much harm to innocent ppl in Minneapolis ๐Ÿ’”. As a Pennsylvanian, I'm proud of our governor for speaking truth to power ๐Ÿ™Œ. It's about time someone held them accountable for the racist practices they're using ๐Ÿšซ. If I were Senator Cortez Masto's side I'd totally be down with withholding funds from DHS ๐Ÿค‘. We gotta protect people's rights and not let politicians get away with undermining our constitution ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ˜ I'm not surprised by this move from Shapiro, given his track record as a progressive leader in PA... His words on CBP & ICE have been echoing my thoughts for a while now ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒŽ What's concerning me though is the escalating tensions between lawmakers and the President - it's time for some constructive dialogue, don't you think? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

๐Ÿ˜” oh man this situation with ICE is just so heartbreaking I can feel how frustrated Josh Shapiro must be seeing these innocent people being hurt by policies that are supposed to protect them it's like, we're talking about America, land of the free and home of the brave but what's happening is basically us letting our politicians play some kinda twisted game where they get to decide who lives and dies ๐Ÿคฏ

I'm so glad Shapiro is speaking out for the community, as someone who's been following this stuff, it feels like we're just getting a tiny glimpse of how messed up things are behind the scenes... what he said about mask mandates and racial profiling, that's just so wrong ๐Ÿ˜  his experience as a former attorney general must give him some real insight into how these agencies operate

the fact that other senators are willing to vote against funding for DHS and ICE is huge, I mean we need more people like Shapiro speaking up ๐Ÿ™Œ and demanding change... it's time for us to hold our leaders accountable and make sure they're respecting the rights of all Americans, regardless of where they come from ๐Ÿ’–

I don't know how far I'd go with this whole "terminating" thing... I mean, we gotta have some balance here. Shapiro's right that ICE agents' actions are super sketchy, but shouldn't we be working on fixing the issues instead of just getting rid of them? ๐Ÿค” It feels like a Band-Aid solution to me. And what about all the people who need help and can't navigate the system? ๐Ÿšจ

man, this whole thing with President Trump and his crew is getting outta hand ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, Josh Shapiro is totally right, it's like they're trying to create a war zone in Minneapolis ๐Ÿšซ. The fact that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are using masking and racial profiling tactics is just unacceptable ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I've seen some crazy stuff online, but this takes the cake.

I love how Shapiro's bringing his experience as former attorney general to the table ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. He knows what it takes to keep a community safe, and it's not about targeting specific groups, but about treating everyone with respect ๐Ÿค. The Democratic senators voting against the spending plan are totally on point too ๐Ÿ‘.

I'm all for holding those in power accountable ๐Ÿ’ช. If we want to make sure our constitutional rights aren't being trampled, we need to speak up and demand better ๐Ÿ”Š. This is what it's all about โ€“ making a difference and fighting for what's right ๐ŸŒŸ.

I'm really worried about the state of things right now ๐Ÿค•. Shapiro's words were so strong and I love how he's calling out the people who are making a mess - Trump, Vance, and Noem are just perpetuating racism and creating an unsafe environment for innocent people ๐Ÿšซ. It's not like they're doing it on purpose, but still...

I'm actually really impressed by Shapiro's experience as a former attorney general - he knows what's good policing practice and what's not ๐Ÿค“. The idea that ICE agents are using masking and racial profiling tactics is just unacceptable... I mean, come on! How can we trust the people in power when they're doing this to our own community? ๐Ÿ˜ก

I think Shapiro's right about withholding funds for Homeland Security - it's time to make a point ๐Ÿ“ฃ. We need to hold those in power accountable and make sure they respect everyone's rights, regardless of who they are or where they come from ๐Ÿ’ฏ. It's not about being divisive, it's about standing up for what's right ๐ŸŒŸ.

omg i'm so done with trump and his crew ๐Ÿคฏ they need to stop targeting the minneapolis community like that, it's so unfair ๐Ÿ˜” i feel for good and pretti, they didn't deserve to be caught up in all this violence ๐Ÿ’” shapiro is totally right about the police procedures too, like how ice agents can just mask people's faces and profile them by race... it's literally racist ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ and no one should be treated that way ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ i'm loving that senator catherine cortez masto is pushing for change, maybe we'll finally see some progress on these issues ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ˜” This is really disturbing news... I can feel how hurtful these actions are towards the Minneapolis community. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ It's like they're being targeted for no reason at all. The idea that a group of people could be mistreating and killing others just because of who they are is so unfair ๐Ÿคฏ. It makes me so angry, but also really sad... like what can we do to make it stop? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'm totally with Shapiro on this one ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’ช. Those CBP and ICE agents are like, totally overstepping their bounds, you know? I mean, a mask mandate is not exactly a surprise, but racial profiling? That's just not okay, fam ๐Ÿ˜•. And what really gets me is that it's all happening under the guise of 'keeping us safe'. Like, no thanks, I'd rather trust my local cops to do their job than some agents with a hidden agenda ๐Ÿšจ.

I'm all for Shapiro taking a stand and making sure those in power know we won't tolerate this kind of stuff. It's time for some accountability, you feel? And I love that he's pushing back against the funding for Homeland Security โ€“ it's about time someone made them explain themselves ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. We can't let our rights just get swept under the rug because some politicians are too afraid to speak out. Not on my watch ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ!
