Here’s when you’ll get your tax refund from the IRS

Tax Season Underway: Here's When You Can Expect Your Refund

With tax filing season officially underway, millions of Americans are gearing up to file their returns and potentially receive refunds. According to the IRS, a record 164 million individual income tax returns are expected to be filed by April 15.

This year's average refund is projected to be $1,000 higher than last year's, thanks in part to changes in tax law. However, taxpayers can expect some delays due to an exodus of IRS workers since the start of the Trump administration. The national taxpayer advocate has warned that this may lead to challenges for those who encounter problems filing their returns.

If you're expecting a refund, here are some key things to know: Electronic filers can expect to receive their refunds in 21 days or less, while direct deposit recipients can expect even faster processing. Paper filers, on the other hand, may face delays of four weeks or more. The IRS also cautions that taxpayers should not rely on receiving a refund by a certain date, especially when making major purchases or paying bills.

To check the status of your refund, you can use the online tool "Where's My Refund?" which provides projected deposit dates for most early EITC/ACTC refund filers as early as February 21. You'll need to provide your Social Security or individual taxpayer ID number to access this information.

This tax season also marks a shift towards direct deposit refunds, with the IRS phasing out paper tax refund checks in accordance with an executive order. Most taxpayers must now provide their routing and account numbers to receive refunds directly deposited into their bank accounts.

For those eligible, tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit can also be claimed on their returns. The IRS expects most refunds for these credits to be available in bank accounts or on debit cards by March 2 for taxpayers who choose direct deposit.

Overall, while tax season may bring some challenges, knowing when to expect your refund and how to check its status can help make the process smoother.

🤯 Tax season is like that one aunt at the family reunion - it's always a drama fest! 🎉 With 164 million returns expected this year, it's gonna be a busy time for the IRS. But on the bright side, who doesn't love getting that sweet refund money 💸? Just remember to keep an eye on those deadlines and check in with "Where's My Refund?" - it's like having your own personal tax therapist 🤓! And if you're feeling extra tech-savvy, direct deposit is the way to go - no more waiting around for a paper check. But honestly, who needs that kind of stress? 😅

OMG, have you tried those new avocado toast spots downtown? 🍞🤤 I mean, I know it's not exactly related to taxes, but I swear, that first bite is like a taste explosion in your mouth! And don't even get me started on the prices... I mean, I'm not complaining or anything, but $15 for avocado toast is just crazy talk! 😂 Anyway, back to tax season... yeah, I guess it's always a good idea to double-check your refund status. But you know what they say: "April showers bring May flowers"... or in this case, refunds! 💸🌼

Ugh, tax season is like, so stressful 🤯! I feel bad for all the people struggling to get their refunds on time. I know someone who's been trying for weeks and still hasn't gotten theirs 💸. But, at least the average refund is going up, which is kinda cool 😊. And, yay, direct deposit refunds are a thing now! That makes me so much happier 🎉. On the other hand, I'm worried about all the delays and paper filers having to wait forever ⏰. Has anyone else noticed how crazy tax season can get? 🤔

Tax season is actually super exciting 🎉 I mean, who doesn't love staring at a bunch of numbers and forms for hours on end? And with the new direct deposit refunds, it's just an excuse to have money sucked out of your account in no time 😂. Plus, all those paper filers might finally get some practice in with their calculators and whatnot. The IRS phasing out paper checks is a great idea too... said no one ever 🙄.

omg u guys tax season is like super crazy rn! 🤯 i'm not even kidding, 164 million people filing returns? that's just insane! but on a more serious note, the fact that they're phasing out paper checks and making direct deposit the norm is actually kinda cool. think of it as saving trees, lol 🌳 but for real, it's all about efficiency now. so if u're expecting a refund, just remember to check online or use the "where's my refund?" tool, and try not to stress too much about the wait time 🙏

I'm super curious about this year's tax season 🤔. With a record number of returns filed, it's clear that folks are expecting bigger refunds 💸. But I gotta wonder, have we become too reliant on direct deposit? I mean, think about all those people who don't bank online or don't have access to debit cards... what happens if their account is frozen or they can't get to a bank? 🤦‍♀️ It's like, we're trying to make tax season more efficient, but are we making it more accessible for everyone?

And what's up with the IRS phasing out paper checks? Like, I get it, it's convenient and all, but some people might actually prefer getting a physical check in the mail 📨. It's like, our love for tech is cool and all, but let's not forget about the folks who just want to sit down at their desk and fill out a paper form.

I guess what I'm saying is, while tax season can be stressful, we gotta make sure we're thinking about everyone involved, not just the ones with fancy bank accounts 🤝.

You know what's crazy? Like, we spend half our lives dealing with taxes and yet we still get anxious about it all the time 🤯. It's like, chill, dude! Your refund is just a number on a page. Don't stress too much about it. And honestly, have you ever thought that maybe some of those "delays" are just an excuse for us to take a deep breath and focus on what really matters? Like, when's the last time you took a moment to appreciate the little things in life? We're so busy trying to get our refunds that we forget how good it is to slow down 🌳. Anyway, I guess my point is...enjoy this tax season, even if it does seem like a hassle 💸

omg u guys im so nervous about filing my taxes this year lol i just got done with my W-2 and its kinda long lol didnt realize how much i made last yr 🤑📊 anyway i heard that if ur expecting a refund it might take like 4 weeks or more to get it back in the mail??? thats crazy talk me back 💸

Tax season is officially underway 🤑👀. I'm not gonna lie, I hate doing my taxes lol. But like, who doesn't love getting that fat refund check 😂. This year's average refund is $1k higher than last year, so maybe people are actually getting paid more or something 💸. And btw, the IRS has reduced the number of workers since Trump took office 🤷‍♂️. Guess they're cutting costs by slashing worker numbers... but hey, at least we get to deal with the consequences, right? 😒. Anyone got tips on how to avoid those 4-week paper delay hell? Asking for a friend 👫.

Ugh, I'm so done with this tax season already 🙄. I mean, I get it, we need to file our returns and all that jazz, but can't we just have a simple process? It sounds like there's gonna be some real headaches for people trying to navigate the system, especially those who are relying on their refunds for major purchases or bills. And don't even get me started on the delays - four weeks or more?! That's crazy talk 😂. I'm all about direct deposit refunds now, can we just make that happen ASAP? 🤑

Tax season is like that one relative you know, it's always showing up uninvited but usually brings some nice gifts 🎁. Seriously though, I'm stoked we're finally getting those refunds coming in, and with an average of $1k higher this year, that's a nice bonus 💸. However, I do hope the IRS is prepared for the chaos, I mean, 164 million returns is a lot to handle 🤯. And what's up with the delays? Like, I get it, some people are leaving and all, but can't they just, like, train some newbies or something? 🙄 Anyway, using that "Where's My Refund?" tool sounds like a solid plan, might as well be prepared for that refund to show up whenever 🔁.

Tax season is like that one relative who always shows up uninvited... 😒 You're just trying to live your life, but they keep popping up for more info, and sometimes you get a big fat check... or a smaller one 🤑. Anyway, 21 days or less is like having a hot new pair of kicks – instant gratification! And don't even get me started on the IRS worker exodus – it's like they're all playing a game of "finders, keepers" 🤣. But seriously, check your refund status online and you'll be golden 💯. Just don't rely on it showing up on time or anything...

omg u guys i'm so hyped for tax season 🤑 i know it's not everyone's fave but like i just wanna get my hands on that refund ASAP 💸 i heard it's gonna be $1000 more than last yr tho which is insane 🤯 i hope everything goes smoothly tho cuz the irs is super short staffed rn 😩 gotta give a shoutout to my boyce tax software tho its literally saved me so much time already this season 🙌 can't wait to get that direct deposit refund in my bank account 💸👍

Tax season is like a never-ending election campaign 🤣. You've got millions of Americans voting with their returns, and the IRS is trying to count every single one of them accurately. The delays are like vote counting errors – frustrating, but hopefully temporary.

But let's get real, folks. This tax law change is like a bipartisan compromise – it's all about who benefits the most. The average refund increase is nice, but where's the trickle-down effect for those in need? We should be pushing for more progressive taxation, not just increasing refunds for those already making ends meet.

And don't even get me started on direct deposit. It's like the government is trying to digitize everything – convenience vs. security. How do we ensure our routing numbers aren't hacked? 🤔

I don't usually comment but... I'm kinda surprised that they're expecting a record number of refunds this year 🤔. I mean, it's always great for people who are due some cash back, but it also means more work for the IRS 🕒. And yeah, I've heard those delays can be a real bummer for paper filers... have you ever had to wait that long for your refund? 😩

I'm not sure about this whole direct deposit thing... I mean, isn't it a hassle to have my refund sent straight to my bank? 🤑 I know some people might like it, but what if there's an issue with their account or something? And what's up with all these delays? Four weeks for paper filers? That's just long. Can't we trust the IRS to get it right this time? 😐 Also, I've seen some weird stuff about EITC/ACTC refunds being available by Feb 21... that seems kinda fishy 🐟.

tax season is like, super stressful 🤯! but i guess that extra $1000 refund isn't so bad lol. anyway, i'm low-key excited about direct deposit refunds 🎉... no more waiting for a paper check in the mail. and can we talk about how many people are gonna hit the 'where's my refund?' link on their computers at 8am sharp 😂? gotta love the IRS online tool - makes checking your refund status so easy! 👍 just hope there aren't too many delays due to all the new workers 🤦‍♀️. overall, tax season might be a headache, but with some prep and patience, it's manageable 💪
