Hobart International: Venus Williams beaten by Tatjana Maria in singles

Venus Williams' Title Dreams Hit by Tatjana Maria in Hobart International Thriller.

Tatjana Maria pulled off a stunning upset in the singles final of the Hobart International, defeating five-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams 6-4 6-3.

The German's win marked an impressive victory over a player that many considered to be on the decline, and it will surely give her the momentum she needs as she heads into the Australian Open. Maria also made history in the process, becoming the oldest competitor in a main draw singles match at the tournament.

As for Williams, she has been struggling with inconsistency throughout her career. After winning seven Grand Slam singles titles and Olympic gold in 2000, she continued to have success but eventually lost touch with the top level of the sport.

Maria's win was also bittersweet as it came at a time when her daughters, Charlotte and Cecilia, were huge fans of Williams' rival Serena, who won three Grand Slam singles titles together.

"It is never easy playing a fan favourite in sport - particularly not when your children are huge supporters of your opponent," Maria said after the match. "Everybody loves Venus - I love her too!"

πŸ™ Tatjana Maria's win over Venus Williams was such an inspiring moment, but also kinda bittersweet for me... I mean, you gotta love Serena too! 😊 Those two are like sisters on the court, and it's not often you see a player compete against their own fan's favorite. But, at the same time, Tatjana played an amazing match and proved she's still got it! 🎾πŸ’ͺ The fact that she became the oldest competitor in a main draw singles match is just wild... I mean, who else can say they've been around the block a few times and still come out on top? 🀯 Anyway, congrats to Tatjana and good luck with the Aussie Open! πŸ’₯

πŸ€” so Tatjana Maria just took down 5-time GS champ Venus Williams and everyone's going wild πŸŽ‰ but let's keep things real, how old is she really? 37? That's crazy for a singles match. πŸ™ƒ anyway, I guess it shows that even at an advanced age, tennis is still the sport for you if you can hang in there...btw, what's with the "it's never easy playing a fan favourite" speech? sounds like she's saying it to get sympathy points 😏

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one, 6-4 and 6-3 is no joke, Tatjana Maria totally outplayed Venus Williams in that final 🀯. I mean, we all knew Venus was struggling with inconsistency for a while now, but who would have thought she'd get beat by a player like that? I feel bad for her though, it's always tough to lose, especially when you know the crowd is gonna be cheering for someone else.

On the other hand, Tatjana Maria's win is just incredible! She's 35 and still managing to compete at this level πŸ™Œ. And making history like that is just amazing. I love how she handled the pressure of playing a fan favourite too - it shows a lot of class from her side.

It's also got me thinking about what makes an athlete like Venus Williams so great, you know? They've been to the top and back again multiple times, but now they're struggling to get back there. What can they do differently to make that comeback? I'm curious to see how Venus will bounce back from this loss and if she'll be able to regain her form in time for the Australian Open 🎾

awww man, tatjana maria is literally on fire right now! πŸš€ i mean, defeating venus williams in the final is a huge deal for her career, and it's amazing to see an older player still killing it out there. 6-4, 6-3 isn't even that far off from venus' usual winning margins πŸ˜‚. anyway, gotta give maria props - she handled the pressure well, especially with her daughters being such huge fans of serena. can only imagine how tough that must have been for her! πŸ€—

Wow 😲 Tatjana Maria totally crushed it on the court, and she's proving that age isn't everything! Interesting how she managed to pull off this win without any major injury issues, considering all the time she spent with her daughters cheering for Serena. πŸ™Œ The fact that her daughters were supporting Serena makes it even more impressive that Tatjana didn't let emotions get in the way of her game πŸ’ͺ

OMG you guys Tatjana Maria totally slayed 🀯 and honestly, I'm loving her vibe right now πŸ™Œ she's like this underdog who just takes it to the champ 😱 6-4, 6-3 is a huge upset and I'm so impressed! πŸ‘ And yaaas for breaking that record too! πŸŽ‰ But poor Venus, I feel bad for her πŸ€— she's been struggling with consistency lately and this loss might be a bit of a setback for her career. But hey, Tatjana Maria is on fire πŸ”₯ and we can't wait to see what's next for her! πŸ’ͺ

Venus got owned πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ! Like, what's up with these tennis upsets? One minute she's a legend and the next, she's getting served πŸ˜‚. Tatjana Maria was on fire though, I gotta give her that. And poor Venus, struggling to find consistency is one thing but having your kids root for the other team takes the cake 🍰. I feel bad for Maria, winning this match was like a mix of excitement and weirdness - playing a fan favorite with your own mini-fans in the stands? Talk about an awkward situation 😳. On the bright side, Maria's got some momentum going into Aussie Open, maybe she'll even get to take down another tennis icon πŸ€žπŸ‘€

can't believe the upset of the year 🀯! Tatjana Maria just showed us all that she's more than just a nice German lady, she's got some serious snipe game 😏. Meanwhile, Venus is over here trying to find her rhythm... again πŸ•°οΈ. I'm not saying she's on the decline or anything (although that 6-3 final score does scream that), but maybe it's time for her to take a step back and watch some of these youngbloods do their thing πŸ‘€. On the other hand, kudos to Tatjana Maria for showing us all what it means to be classy and humble... even when you're beating a legend πŸ™. And can we just give those fans a hard time for being biased? I mean, come on, girls supporting Serena over their own mum? That's some next-level sports mom drama πŸ’β€β™€οΈ!

I'm loving the drama of this match! 🀩 Tatjana Maria totally pulled off an upset and I gotta respect that. I mean, five-time Grand Slam champion is no joke, but sometimes you just gotta step it up πŸ’ͺ. But for real, Venus has been struggling lately, so kudos to Tatjana for stepping in the game at her prime ⏰. And can we talk about how gracious she was after the match? I love that she mentioned everyone loving Venus and being a fan favourite... it's all good vibes 🌈. Now let's see if Tatjana can keep this momentum going into Aussie Open... πŸ’₯

Come on Tatjana, what's up with you? Beating Venus like that shows some serious skills, but it's also a bit weird how you're gonna celebrate with Serena's fans' kids still watching... πŸ€” still can't help but wonder if all those years of tennis have taken its toll on Vee...

omg this is insane!!! Tatjana Maria just took down 5x grand slam champ Venus Williams and i'm SHOOK 🀯 she played some of the best tennis of her life and it's clear why they call her one of the toughest players to beat πŸ’ͺ but what's even more amazing is that she's not just beating the opponent, she's getting love from their own kids too 😭 i mean can you imagine having to play your kid's rival and still manage to get a W? Tatjana Maria must have pure ice in her veins πŸ₯Ά anyhoo, congrats to Tatjana on an epic win and let's see how far this momentum takes her into the Aus Open!

Omg u gotta feel for Tatjana Maria right now she played an insane match and deserved that win so much 🀩. Like, people were saying Williams was on the decline but Maria proved them all wrong πŸ’ͺ! It's crazy to think about how consistent Williams has been in the past, it's like her game just went a bit off track for a sec. Anyway, Maria is def gonna be the one to watch at the Aussie Open now - she's got that momentum and confidence 🌟. And wow, it's so sweet of Maria to admit her kids were fans of Williams' rival Serena 😊. Still, love how classy and humble Maria was after the match πŸ’•!

tbh tatjana maria's win was super impressive 🀯 especially since she's from germany and most people didn't expect her to take down a 5-time grand slam champion like venus williams. maria showed that she's more than just some german girl with a pretty face πŸ˜‰, she's actually got the skills to back it up.

it's also kinda sad that venus' title dreams hit a roadblock πŸš— but we gotta be honest, she hasn't been playing as well as she used to. maybe this loss will motivate her to work harder and come back stronger? fingers crossed for venus!

as for maria, she's definitely got the momentum now πŸ’ͺ and who knows, maybe she'll make a deep run in aussie open 🀞. it's cool that she was bittersweet about beating venus, shows she's not just some ruthless competitor 😊

aww man, that's so cool that Tatjana Maria won and got to be all emotional about it πŸ€—. i feel bad for Venus, she's been having a tough time lately with consistency and stuff, but you gotta respect the game when someone pulls off an upset like that 😊. and omg, can you imagine playing in front of your kids' fave player and still managing to come out on top? Tatjana's win is def a momentum booster for her, and i'm loving the class she showed by giving props to Venus πŸ™Œ. it's all about sportsmanship, right? πŸ’•

omg what a comeback for tatjana maria i was thinking she didnt stand a chance against venus but maria really pulled it off πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜² and i gotta feel for her, having her kids as fans of serena is so tough 🀯 i mean we all love venus, she's an icon, but maria showed that even at 37, she can still bring the heat πŸ”₯ now maria's got some momentum going into aus open, let's see how far she can take it πŸ’ͺ

TBH Tatjana Maria was on fire out there πŸ’₯! I've been saying it for ages, tennis is an incredibly competitive sport and you can't write off a player just because they're older or haven't won as many titles. She totally deserved that win and I'm loving her confidence right now πŸ™Œ. And yeah, it's bittersweet for her too with her kids supporting Serena but still showing respect to Venus - that's the sportsmanship we love to see πŸ’•. Venus is still an all-time great but I think Maria is going to be a force to be reckoned with at the Aussie Open πŸŽΎπŸ‘

I'm loving Tatjana Maria's vibe right now, she's like a dark horse 🐎 and totally outplayed Venus Williams in Hobart. It's crazy how old she was to be competing in that main draw singles match tho? I mean, I've seen some talented players retire early, but not at 37! 😲 And can we talk about the pressure on Maria's family too? I feel bad for her daughters who were cheering for Serena Williams, that's gotta be tough. But hey, Maria handled it like a pro and proved all us doubters wrong πŸ’ͺ. Maybe this is the start of something big for her at the Australian Open! 🀞

TBH, I'm shocked Tatjana Maria pulled off that win 🀯! I mean, she's been on a rise lately and it's awesome to see her break through against a legend like Venus Williams. But at the same time, I'm kinda worried about Maria's mental game – playing in front of all those Serena fans' parents must've been super tough 😬. And for Maria, that win is definitely a momentum booster, but what about when Serena shows up at the Aus Open? πŸ’₯ That'd be a whole different story...
